Dear Sharon,

What is the sweetener used in your carob chips? I can't seem find any that

doesn't have corn in the sweetener, and when I do, then they have dairy or

vanilla. Would love to know the brand if it doesn't have any of these.

Thanks,

Hi Rochelle,

I have the same problems that you are talking about. I don't know what

causes the gas, but I put mine down to cheating on the diet over the summer.

I starting taking 2 cayenne pepper pills and 2 garlic pills with each meal,

or at least twice a day. I find that the cayenne pepper really helps gas and

stomach upset. It took a couple of weeks but now the gas is gone.

I haven't lost any weight and I have a lot of cravings. I find that I try to

not eat avoids when I crave, but I do eat a lot of nuts and carob chips and

other fairly good things but they do have a lot of fat and calories in them.

I crave every evening after dinner. I seem to be okay all day, but it

somehow seems that the evening meal starts the cravings. I don't know what

the answer is. I am open to any suggestions.

Regards,

Sharon

Hey Rochelle,

I would say that the gas is all the toxins releasing from your system. Have

you checked your thyroid with a thermometer in the AM? Most O people have

hypothyroids and the weight lose will be prevented till the thyroid is

healed. If that is the case, take lots of kelp supplements. I am taking 3

tablets per meal of thyroid from the health food store ( a thyroid tissue

concentrate) and 3-4 of the thyroid factors (by s) at each meal,

which is also available in the health food stores.

Weight loss has been slow but gradually. And slowly my nails, hair and

other body elements are healing and starting to look nicer. My energy level

has been in a slump but with Halloween and all the chocolate....I have

cheated. My fault.

Keep up the good work and it will work out for the best for you.

STAY OFF THE SCALE. I stuck to the diet and exercised like mad. For the

first 4 to 6 weeks I did not lose one ounce! I did lose inches though. Get

out the tape measure. In my case two things were going on I think. One was

that the flab was turning back to muscle which weighs more. The other was

that to handle my carbo cravings I was eating lots of pumpkin seeds.

D'Adamo says somewhere that pumpkin seeds shouldn't be eaten if you're

trying to lose weight.

Also it took me a while to get it that I had to eat olive oil. Like many

good Amuricans I'd been on a nearly religious low fat diet forever. Well,

for 20 years. Getting fatter and fatter and religiously avoiding oils and

fats. Now I use Olivio, a butter like spread made from olive oil and saute

food in olive oil. I let myself have an egg for breakfast.

The weight started to drop. The inches have continued to diminish. This

past weeend I was able to put on clothing I never thought I'd wear again.

I made a deal with myself not to weigh myself more than once a month and to

measure my success by how much better I was feeling.

I forgot the gassy stuff. I was also very gassy but it has diminished. I

attributed it to candida and got worried. I found that if I had some

protein...meat fish or egg with each meal. the gas did not develop. If I

just had fruit, it was deadly. I also had to eliminate all grains for a

while. The grains also did it. Now I'm slowly adding some back. Now I am

having a too loose stool -- too much ketosis...or too much iodine. I'm

fiddling to get it right.

Debbie,

You mentioned that your " nails, hair and other body elements are healing

and starting to look nicer. " Do you attribute this to a healthier thyroid?

The reason I ask is because my nails are TERRIBLE! They have vertical

ridges in them (especially the thumbnails are absolutely corrugated), they

split very easily and I often have hang nails. I understand that this is

fairly common with fibromyalgia patients (my problem) and of course, it

seems as though most of us with fibro have the hypothyroidism.

According to Balch's nutritional healing book, vertical ridges may be caused

by a vitamin B deficiency and splitting nails may be caused by a lack of

sufficient hydrochloric acid. I've been supplementing with the B vitamins

as per Dr. D's recommendations, but not sure how to get more of the HCL.

Dandelion, flaxseed and pumpkin seed are also supposed to help as well as

kelp, broccoli, fish, onions, and sea vegetables - all recommended foods

for O's!

I'm either supplementing or eating those recommended foods pretty

regularly, but haven't noticed a difference yet. Any other ideas?

How long should it take to notice an improvement?

Also, does any one know of a natural remedy for toenail fungus? Two of my

toenails have had fungus for a number of years. I'm grateful for any advice

any of you might have.

Many thanks,

Becky B.

Sorry , I don't remember what the sweetner is, but it is not corn syrup,

but they do have whey powder and vanilla. I know these are avoids but I

don't eat that many of them. I don't think there are any carob chips that

are 100% legal.

That is a good idea Jeannie. Let me know if you find a way. I have played

around with carob powder, rice syrup, and stevia (the sweetner), but it only

came out in a glob that tasted horrible.

Becky,

for nail fungus .....soak your finger or toe nails in bleach for about 10

minutes every night. And take tons of garlic which kills fungus

internally. Should help.

Eat lots of salt for help with the thyroid. Has been helping me

Thanks, Debbie! I'll try the bleach idea - are you supposed to dilute the

bleach at all, or saok in straight bleach?

I'll have to consider about garlic. When I tried taking it before I had

tremendous difficulty with flatulence.

Am already using salt pretty liberally. I appreciate your advice.

Becky.

Hey Becky. Yes use the bleach straight to soak for fungus on the finger or

toenails. Also you can get garlic that has anti-gas formulas, but the gas

is just your body cleansing itself and we all need that. The garlic is the

best herb you can take to clean our parasites, toxins, fungus, and yeasts in

the digestive system.

Good grief. Dilute that bleach or it will burn. A 10% solution will kill

fungus. That is one part bleach and 9 parts water. You will probably have

to use it for quite a while since the fungus is probably under the nail.

White iodine is also good. I am sure red is also but not terribly attractive.

Becky,

Why don;t you try ginger? It is a good tummy soother. And I agree about

eating protein at each meal. It helped me. And too many Carbs, even all

legal ones will give you trouble. You might try Beano. It is at the health

food stores and you take a drop or two before each meal. Works when eating

beans and many of the vegetables that are harder to digest if you are not

used to them.

I had read somewhere that lengthwise ridges in the nails are a symptom of

hypothyroid. My thyroid is much larger on the left side and I have

noticeable ridges on the nails on the left hand.

If you want to try HCL supplementation, take a look at the digestive enzyme

supplements in the health food store. My advice is to get one with low

dosage. You can always take more than one. One with a high dosage, if it

turns out to be too much, will leave you with a fiery tummy, a very

unpleasant outcome.

Nails grow sort of slowly. After 6 weeks you should be able to see how the

new nail looks at its base, where it starts to grow. If it's the thyroid,

that would be 6 weeks after you get your thyroid working right I assume. My

thyroid has just started to work better so I don't expect my nails to show

any change until January. It will take some months for the ridged nail to

grow out.

How about doing something like cake icing and using one of those cake

decorating tools to create the carob chips?

My underarm temp this morning is 96 up from 94.1 the last time I took it.

What should it be? I know it's low. I'm on L-thyroxin and recently had the

dosage upped.. Thanks for all the suggestions I've gotten.

Underarm temp should be 97.5 or around there. I find with myself that it

wavers. I'l say it's hovering around a certain temp. There are loads of

factors which influence how wwell the thyroid is able to work and also how

well the body is able to change what the thyroid puts out into something

useful.

You might want to check out the info at http://www.wilsonssyndrom.com Don't

get too sold. He's heavily promoting his solution. Dr. is hardly

the only one who has noticed the conditions that can accompany hypothyroid

or lack of nutrients to help the body make the chemical changes of the

thyroid's output. His solution is not the only one available. Just that,

since you on the internet, there's some interesting info there.
