Hi Jeanie,

I too, would rather a more vegetarian diet than eat meat. However, I do

notice that I feel a bit of energy when I eat meat in the morning. Down here

(Hawaii), we have Ranch which raises totally grass and grain fed beef

who get a huge range to roam on. The stores sell this meat. It is a teeny

bit more in cost, but not too much. We are starting to raise ducks for meat,

eggs, and for a project for my son. The Cook Right for your Type mentions

some type of herb that can be taken which somehow compares with the action of

meat in our bodies. I don't think it replaces the protein, but it is

mentioned.

Aloha, Deborah

Hi Deborah - I guess good protein is the key. I tend to think its less

necessary in hot weather too. Don't know how that applies where its hot all

the time though. If you go by that you need more meat here in AK too. I am

borrowing the cook right book - will have to look into that. Thank you.

Hello

Well I eat more protein than I ever have. Liver twice a week, lots of good

vegetables, only the beneficial foods, none of the neutral or bad foods and

have not lost a pound. I really don't eat that much either. Use to have

unbelievable sugar cravings especially right after a meal....no longer have

them, and feel absolutely wonderful, but would like to loose at least the 20

pounds I gained when I went on a high fiber diet and was eating granola,

wheat, nuts, kidney beans, and all the wrong foods.

Well we will see what happens.

Thanks for the advice though

Debbie

Jeanie,

Your message about walnuts isn't clear to me; perhaps, you left out a word

or two. I just want to make sure that I understand what you wrote.

Thanks,

Louise

Hi Louise,

Be careful with them, the taste is addictive. At first I noticed a taste in

them that I didn't like, but after awhile, I grew to like it and missed it

when I ran out of them. I finished my first box and when I wanted a snack, I

missed them so much that I ordered some more and paid the extra shipping

charge to get them sooner. If you like them make sure you don't run out

before you order more.

I tried the type O bars and they are quite good. They actually kept my hunger away for several hours. I would use them for breakfast since that is the meal I have no time to eat.

Does anyone know whether Ricotta cheese has the necessary

sulfur based proteins?

I'd love to know but can't find anything on the net.

  • 2 years later...

asked what the downs side was of not eating enough carbs.

Here is what Hussman has to say about it:

<It's important to have both protein and carbohydrates in your meals.

If you severely restrict carbohydrates, you'll " bonk " and slow down

your metabolism. You'll also lose muscle. See, when you run too low

on carbohydrate, the body first tries to burn fat, but if fat burning

is too slow to provide enough energy, your body starts using protein

for energy (gluconeogenesis). If you overly restrict protein, you

won't build muscle, and you increase the risk that your body will

feed on muscle mass.>

I have also read, but could not quickly find the info for you, that

carbs are the main energy source for your brain. Too few carbs and

you feel foggy, unable to concentrate. Add to that the fact that

high protien is hard on the kidneys, and you have a situation where

getting your carbs too low will effect your entier well being.

Now, does that mean I'm telling you you have to eat bread? No. You

will be better off avoiding all the processed carbs like break,

crackers, and cerials. You will do well if most of your carbs come

from things like oatmeal, sweet potatoes, fruits and veggies, lots of

brightly colored veggies.

Where would I find out gm of protein in nuts and eggs?

Protein

Hint: The quick 'oz per day' calculation is to take you weight in lbs

and multiply times 0.14 or divide by 7.1.

I bought a book of food counts that has all of that info for most foods. (ie

cals, carbs, fat, protein, chol, sod, fiber, etc). You can find out online

but the book is handier.

all of the time.. so what i do (and this is just what i do, not that

it's the correct thing to do) is eat a serving of total cereal's

brown sugar and oats and drink a myoplex low carb shake. it works

out really well for me. hope this might help a little.
