Guest guest
Well I do not like to say "Remission" until I visit the doctor. But it is utterly amazing. This has been the most amazing winter of my life. It makes me sooooo happy:D Another thing, not only have I gotten off all my drugs, but I am quitting smoking. I have not had one now for 4 days and I feel great about that too. And I have lost 3 pounds. YAY! But I gotta go now and do some stuff. Guest guest
Patti I can't help you with the Syracuse area thing but I wanted to send my prayers for your Mom. I hope everything goes OK and she's not in the hospital too long. Where are you staying while you're there? Be very careful about walking outside at night up there. My daughter had open heart surgery there 14 years ago and everyone at the hospital always told me to be VERY ALERT when walking to my car in the parking lot at night. My husband and I were staying at the Genesee Inn a few blocks from the hospital but we took different shifts staying with my daughter at the hospital. So I was always alone going to and from the hotel to the hospital at night. syracuse area ? hi there i am usually living in binghamton and albany...but nowwww it seems . i will be liviing in the syracuse area for awhile ...my mom has had a stroke....3 actually...and i am a only child...yuck LOL.....but i have to stay very close to the hospital at this time..soooo my question is...i am going nuts not making stuff lolol... is there any craft places around here ? neat shops ?..shoot i cant even find a ac moore lololol.. thanks for any ideas.. patti
Guest guest
Hi, Patti, Thanks for sharing your CI moment and your trip to Boston. It surely was a great weekend for you and your family. ~ I've seen those dispensers you talk about, and they don't always work! I could stand there waving forever and nothing happened! LOL The same for the water faucits that work similarly. If your hand isn't in the exact " sweet spot " the thing just won't do anything! Must be doubly frustrating for ! LOL ) Jackie
Guest guest
Hey Flashy have you tried using some of the universal hand gestures on the dispensers..hum might work

If your hand isn't in the exact " sweet spot " the thing just won't do anything! Must be doubly frustrating for ! LOL<< Jackie, LOL! It *is* frustrating. That day I used the automatic faucet, I held my hands underneath it (as I was instructed) waiting for the water to come out. When nothing happened, I moved my hands from left to right under the faucet until it finally worked. If no one had been inside the bathroom to explain how the faucet worked, I would have spent 20 minutes trying to figure it out myself. LOL! Guest guest
Patti, Please accept my apologies for misquoting you twice. You should have been quoted as saying, " Ahhh, this is a *nice* map. " (I'm posting this to the list because I do not want list members to get the mistaken impression that you expect a perfect map.) Sorry... Guest guest
Hi ! As I have told you, via personal email, no apology is necessary. I felt that if you were going to continue to quote me then at least get the quote right. As I have told you, I don't expect perfection and would never expect a perfect map. I do expect to always improve as long as I go for mappings. As long as I have a nice program to help me hear throughout the day I am happy. I don't know what perfect is anyway. But, having an " ahhh this is nice map " is a great feeling and my wish is for everyone to experience that feeling someday after hook up. And it's an even more wonderful feeling when that sooo nice map gets improved with more mappings and time. It took me 3 months to get my " Ahhh this is nice map! " I got it when I made an observation to my audie that I couldn't stand my youngest sister's voice. It was too high pitched for me. Soooo my audie made me an ACE 900 map with the edges of the highs and lows rounded off and I could tell, in his office that I was going to like it. The real test came when my youngest sister came home for a visit later that day. She talked and I was like " Ahhhhhh, this is nice! " I wasn't cringing and her voice was right inside my head no matter where she was in the house. It was neat! Now her husband wants to be implanted so he can tolerate her voice too. LOL I told him he had to go deaf first. Anyway, soon after that day, speech discrimination finally started kicking in for me and I heard my name being called just a few feet behind me. At the age of 40 for the first time ever I responded to my name being called behind my back; jsut 3 months after hook up. What a wonderful feeling and I owe it all to this one program that I got with an observation that I couldn't stand my youngest sister's voice. Now do you see why I talk about an " Ahhh this is nice map! " ? I don't seek for anyone to get a perfect map. My wish is for everyone to experience that wonderful feeling of an " ahhh, this is nice map! " Best wishes to all of you who are starting the journey out of muffleness. Good luck to all of you facing surgery. May your surgery be successful and your recovery smooth. And may your hook up day be a happy one! My very best wishes go to all of you who are still struggling with the CI. May you someday soon have that " Ahhh, this is nice, map! " Sincerely, Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Patti, Understood. I'm glad you were able to find your own nice map that worked well for you! I can't imagine how exciting it must have been to hear your own name being called for the first time in 40 years! <smile> I don't know what perfect is either, but compared to what I had pre-CI, I'll gladly take all of the precious sounds, voices and experiences my CI has given back to me! For those of you who are about to embark on this amazing journey, I wish you all the best! <smile> Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Deafblind/Postlingual BTE hearing aid user 20 years Severe-profound hearing loss 10 years
