Cheryl and

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. I am was 2 years out Dec.22. I

also have started with some bad eating habits. I am afraid to get on the

scale. My belt is getting tighter and I know I need to loosen it a notch,

that scares me. You have both given me the motivation to eat

healthier...starting today! Lunch will be a protein drink. My downfall is

the sweets...I really don't dump from them unless I overload. I can eat the

equivilant of a whole candybar...no problem. I didn't think I would be able

to do that after this surgery.

You are both so right....this surgery is only a tool. We have to follow

Dr.R's rules to be thin and healthy for life.

Thanks again....

Joni

I think if you paid attention you might find some foods are worse than others

- I think carbs are a big culprit for some people. However, I have taken

Flagyl (which is part of the prev pak as well I believe) as needed usually it

is about every 3 -4 months and it is completely gone - every once in a while

my DH will say " Call the doc its time to get that medicine again! " LOL I

heard about this from someone who had an RNY on another list - it worked for

them and it has worked like a charm for me :-) I highly recommend it :-) Good

luck. Email me privately if you want me to research the dose my doc

prescribed. I know some people are claiming it gives them the runs when

combinded with the prev pak but I have never had that problem with it when

taken alone.

I know that certain foods affect me differently - some of the ones I can

think of are pasta/potatoes and sugar -- they will give me the worst

gas.

I had a problem until I went low carb for the first part of the day. I

eat bacon and eggs, or chops, or something like that in the morning, and

just protein and fat for lunch. That leaves the fruit and veggies for

supper. This keeps me gas free for most of the day.

Hi guys, just a quick question. My husband and family are about to but

me out of the house....because of my " gas " problem. It has really been

bad. has anyone got any suggestions to help make it some better, or is

this a life long curse. My husband is really having a hard time with

it. It doesn't matter if I leave the room and go somewhere else, it is

very strong and soon my whole house has this horrible smell. I burn

candles, spray room deodorizers, and nothing really helps. Are there

any suggestions out there? I am desperate.

Could there be certain foods that are the culprits, would taking beano

Thanks!

Are you eating much with soy in it? I think soy is one of the worst culprits

, I use Critus Magic room spray. It is the best I can find to cover the

odor. You might try restricting foods to try to find the culprit. Milk and

dairy products make my gas worse. If that is the case with you try Lactaid

pills.

Good luck.

I'm curious. Did your doctor say why he prescribed the Flagyl? Normally, it is

given (I think) to get rid of a parasitic infection (like Trichomoniasis- caused

by a one-celled, flagellated organism - a little bug with a tail). Is he saying

we are getting a parasitic infection and that is causing the gas?

My surgery was about 2 weeks before yours and I notice that my gas problem

is improving ( I don't believe I writing about this!!) I don't think the

odor is getting that much better, I just seem to have less gas. I do notice

that certain foods give me gas but I'm sure they are different for everyone.

You just kind of keep track of what bothers you and avoid it.

Hi , This is bob i was there on 11/26, I have the same kind of gas

problem. And the only thing that is working for me is that i have just

recently been able to " Hold It " for a little while till i can slip away

outside or to a bathroom with a stong vent.

Hopefully you will be able to " Hold it " for longer periods of time soon,

it seems that it took almost 2 months before i could hold it for a little

while till i was out of everyones way!!!

If I understand this correctly (and I am medically handicapped) gas is

actually bacteria that grows in our bodies and now our tummy's are unable to

deal with the bacteria the way it used to. Flagyl is an antibiotic which

kills the bacteria that causes the gas. Please excuse my clumsy explanation.

It is true that it is used for treating Trichomoniasis however, it is used

for other things as well, inlcuding Hpylori and if I remember correctly I

think it may be used when one is exposed to anthrax.

Hi.

I just felt like I had to chip in. I eat lots of soy products and I hardly

have any gas. I think it depends on the individual. I eat no meat or dairy

either, and hardly any fat.

Thanks, !

I went to your link and read it. I had no idea Flagyl was being used for

bacterial infections. Now I know. I really appreciate your info.

I had heard about " Ask Jeeves " , but had never used it before. Great resource!

You might want to consider adding an anti fungal like Pau' darco or oil or

oregano to your list. When you take such high doses of antibiotics it kills

off all your good intestinal bacteria, and allows all the bad stuff to take

over. A strong antifungal, followed by a good acidophilus supplement will

help to get your intestines back in order and that should help out with your

energy levels!

Antibiotics are killers to your immune system. I've always been told to take

acidofulous (sp) to regrow the good bacteria in your intestines. It's in the

frig in your HFS. Try to get off of the antibiotics as soon as you can.

They ARE your immune system right now.

Re: hand, arm, shoulder shaking.

Pris, a number of problems can cause this to happen. If this continues, your

doctor should be made aware of it so he/she can rule out other, more serious

causes. The doctor may send you to a specialist, a neurologist. Inflammation

of muscles and ligaments...especially those that connect to the cervical and

SI spine areas...can irritate the nerves in those areas causing weakness and

shaking. I've had this happen in both regions....due to nerve root

impingement. Usually this is very painful. You didn't mention you were having

pain...only shaking? Keep us posted to what your doctor says. Best regards,

Connie (granny)

There is not much pain. But the other day I had to hold a paint can lid

while I was painting with my left hand (same side) for 30 minutes. I had to

hold the paint can lid in exactly the same position (I was dabbing paint

from it).

After 30 minutes, I tried to disengage my fingers from the lid and they were

frozen. If I tried to move any of my fingers, I felt

excruciating pain.

They were just STIFF! Frozen in the same position...

I have NEVER had any pain or stiffness in my hands before.

Is it arthritis? If so, why don't I ever have any pain/stiffness there at

all, and then I am virtually paralyzed? Could it have anything to do with the

shaking in my hands if I overdo the left side??

THANKS,

Pris

Pris,

I get the same thing. Although my legs shake more than my arms. It seems

like from fatigue. I don't have fibromyalgia. So, my shaking is related

somehow to the reactive arthritis. It's developed over the last few years,

during which time my arthritis has worsened. It might be inflammation

causing profound temporary weakness. I don't understand it that well

myself.
