You're unable to swallow your saliva, so you are too tight! Please

call your doc first thing in the morning, and don't try to even sip

anything else tonight. You won't dehydrate overnight.

If you were ok all week, what changed? Did you eat something to

irritate and swell your stoma?

At any rate, you likely need a small unfill before you get into

trouble. Sandy RN

There is at least one person who posts to this list who has stated he's never

had any sort of negative reaction to his heterochromia; however i believe most

of the rest of us have experienced some negativity in regards to our eyes.

Most people, especially little kids, feel a strong need for similarity. Thats

why pop stars become icons and everyone has to dress like them or color their

hair like them...

Anyway...My experience tells me that your child will likely experience teasing

from her classmates at some point. Mine started as early as kindergarten and

continued throughout grade schoool. Once I started hitting puberty, most

people my age saw my eyes as beautiful rather than weird.

The best thing you can do for your daughter is to let her know that no matter

what her peers say at this point, she is beautiful and has every right to love

how she looks. There is nothing wrong with her, she's just different.

Love her, and things should be ok. :)

Ok, i'll stop being sappy now.

Ha! I just told everyone that I could see better at night than a normal

person, and they all just thought I was the coolest.

I WAS PICKED ON AS A CHILD, BUT AS I GREW OLDER I BEGAN TO GET LOTS OF COMPLIMENTS. I AM NOW 29 AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD. TELL HER TO TELL EVERYONE THAT GOD HAS MADE HER SPECIAL AND THAT IS WHY SHE HAS TWO DIFFERENT COLORED EYES.gwiltjennifer <gwiltjennifer@...> wrote:

Average is one to two pounds a week. You're losing a pound a week.

The number of how much fill is in your band is meaningless. It sounds

See above for some quick thoughts. Let us know more. How much do you

weigh, how old, how much do you want/need to lose, etc? Those are all

factors too.

That's why we're all here, to help each other. Plenty of folks helped

me, and if I can pass it on, that's good.

l> I turn 40 in August. I started at 220 and want to weight in around

l> 135 or 140.

So guess you're about 205 now. And how tall are you?

I'm not a calorie counter, but I've inserted some comments below.

l> And here is my menu for the last 2 days.

l> Sat Am

l> 2 egg whites

l> one instant oatmeal packet

l> 1 cup coffee with Carb countdown creamer

Sounds good.

l> 1 can of Soup in Hand by campbells

l> 4 crackers

Not familiar with that soup, but number of calories can vary widely by

kind of soup and size of can. And I can't eat crackers. But again,

depending on kind of crackers can be good or bad.

l> 1 mini bag of popcorn

Airpopped is fine, but if it is regular microwave it might be pretty

high calorie.

l> 2 small pieces of fried catfish w 2 bites salad

Well, the fried isn't great, especially if breaded. I get it grilled

instead, but DO love catfish...and most any other fish.

l> 1 small package peanuts

Again, get in the habit of reading labels. I don't know if this is a

hundred calories or five hundred, depending not just on size, but how

they're prepared. Oh, and as you probably know, be sure to check the

" serving size " that the calories are for. One of those little 75 cent

bags of chips is TWO servings. Yeah, sure. Glad I can't eat chips

any more.

All in all, I'd say that was fairly reasonable, but could be better.

l> sunday

l> yogurt and 1 packet oatmeal

l> i cup coffee w carbcount down creamer

Good. And kind of yogurt can vary widely, as can size of container.

Above could be only 90 calories, but could be several hundred.

l> tuna w egg white 4 crackers

What's with the tuna? Mayo?

l> 1/2 grilled chicken breast

l> 2 bites potatoe salad

l> 2 bites baked beans

l> 1/2 cup blackberrie cobbler

OK until the cobbler.

l> monday

l> 2 egg white w 1 package oatmeal

Assume the oatmeal is in one of those little instant envelopes and

doesn't have sugar added in package or by you. Right?

l> 1 protein bar

200 to 400 calories depending on brand.

l> 1/2 grilled chicken breast

l> 1 cup mixed salad w dressing

What kind of dressing? That could be five calories or a couple

hundred, depending on kind and quantity.

l> 1 6oz yogurt

l> Havent had dinner yet but i will be eating 1/2 grilled chicken w salad

l> No junk food in house. only keep water and protein drinks in the

l> fridge

Sounds pretty good.

All in all, you're doing the right things, with comments above. I

find that it is a lot of the " little stuff " that can kill your eating.

The cobbler. The salad dressing (I love blue cheese, which is about

as fattening as they come). Too many protein drinks.

Other thoughts. How much walking or exercise are you doing? An hour

a day? Just walking around the house and office? Climbing mountains?

Are you doing any muscle building exercise? That would help too, as

it'll build muscle which burns more calories than fat. And, no, you

won't look like Ahnuld from it. You might check out BandsterWorkout

for more on all that.

You also have two strikes against you. First, you're over 21, and the

older you get the slower your metabolism gets. Second, you're a

woman, so you'll almost always lose slower than a man. And, finally,

the less you have to lose the harder it is to lose it, since you need

fewer calories to maintain your weight. Nope, sure isn't fair.

Let us know more....maybe others have better ideas or comments. Mine

are mine alone, I'm not a doctor or dietician, just a fairly

successful bandster.

Don't give up! There sre lots of things to try here. First of all,

you simply don't have a good fill level yet if you're not feeling

some restriction! Please schedule another fill asap. It takes many

people at least 3-5 fills to get to " just right " , and then more

periodically as they lose weight. The exact amount you have doesn't

matteer at all - the only thing that matters is if it is right for

you! A good fill level can be anywhere from 0 to 3.8 or even more.

Persevere until you get it right!! That's the only way the band will

work well. Your doc seems very conservative with fills. 4 to get to

2.7 is pretty slow. I also don't undersatnd 4 fills in les than 3

months - the first cannot be safely given until 6-8 weeks, and then

they need to be a month apart for a vsriety of reasons. Is your doc

very experienced? If not, you'll need to have a bit more patience than

usual, and may need to help him learn several things.

Then, let's look at your eating. A good goal for most women is 1200-

1500 cal a day, with 50-55% good carbs (veggies, cereals, dairy,

fruit), 20-25% protein, 20-25% fats. Try tracking for a week on

FitDay.com to see where you are. Choose mostly solid protein,

veggies, and cereals for the fiber. Nonfat milk or other dairy to get

in the 1200-1500 mg of calcium a day we all (men and women) need for

weight loss and for bone health.

Eat the solid protein first, as that will fill you and also leave the

pouch much more slowly than other types of food. Then eat veggies,

then a bit of salad or fruit. About 4-8 oz max, but that might be

hard until you get to a good fill. Be sure you're not eating with

meals, or for an hour afterward.

Then, how about fluids? Be sure to get in at least 8-10 full glasses

a day. Any degree of dehydration (any less fluid than this) causes

all kinds of trouble, from varying restriction, to kidney stress.

Enough fluid is absolutelt essential for weight loss.

These are all basic band needs. You might find Jessie's book useful -

it covers all this, and is full of eating tips and other info that is

pretty essential to do well. There is a great deal to learn about the

band to do well, and it takes time to do this.

http://www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp? & isbn=0-595-31114-8

The book also includes her excellent guide to tell if you

are " Perfectly Adjusted " (which you clearly are not!)

It's quite normal for serious weight loss to not start until 3-4

months or more out, after a good fill, and after the other needed

things are in place. Your weight was on the low end when you started,

so you'll need to be especially careful to have all the things

neededin place. Try these things, and please let us know how you're

doing. Sandy RN

, since you asked!, There is lots of room for improvement here -

as there always is with any of us! Please don't think I'm " picking "

on you. You're only a couple months out, and shouldn't expect to be

perfect - either now or later!

Instant oatmeal is a poor choice of fiber, and also has lots of

useless calories. How about a much better fiber cereal, with fewer

cals and better fiber? like Kashi Go Lean or Kashi Good Friends.

Your lunchh is liquid calories - which are a basic thing to avoid.

You need solid protein to get in the 50-60 grams of protein you need

daily. How about lowfat turkey chili with fiber crackers, or tuna on

crackers?

The microwave popcorn is full of useless oil and calories. Popcorn is

a good snack, but only if it is the air-popped, dry kind.100 cal for

3 cups if dry-popped.

FRIED catfish? Forget all frying - the oils are extra, uneeded

calories. Catfish is delicious broiled or steamed. TRy talapia too!

Lots of other delicious fish - low in cal if cooked well, and great

protein.

Peanuts are also very high in oil and calories, even if good prtoein.

you could choose much better. Better snacks would be a piece of low-

fat string cheese, or a piece or two of soft beef jerky - both have

good protein and few calories.

Potatoe salad is also pretty useless - no protein, lots of oils, no

vits or really ANYthing useful on a band food plan. The beans are

good for protein, but not good swimming in all that brown sugar sauce!

The grilled chicken is a great choice, and the cobbler fine as a

treat. Try making it with Splenda to reduce the calories.

No need at all for protein bars - they are nothing more than candy

bars. Try beef jerky or string cheese.

Lettuce sald is pretty useless - few vits, no protein, poor fiber.

How about some good steamed veggies with a bit of butter? Carrots

(good vits, lowcal, good fiber) or many others. Any salad dressing

should be the nonfat or lowfat kinds - there are several excellent

ones to try.

Be sure the yogurt is the nonfat kind - Yopliat Light, nonfat is

excellent, and delicious - 100 cal for the whole cup. Good as a snack

too, insteaf of nuts and popcorn.

All this just takes practice. We all have a lifetime of poor eating

habits to change, and this doesn't happen overnight. Calories will

always count, so do your best to reduce them to the 1200-1500 we

talked about before - and then be sure they are all GOOD, nutritional

calories.

Again, as I said in my other reply to you, you simply don't have a

good fill yet. all this will be much easier when you do.

OK, the nitty gritty response, here's my advice based on what has

worked for me to break out of the exact same torturous stalled weight

loss. Take it for what it's worth. Please don't pass judgment on me

for the choices I make that you wouldn't make for yourself. Please

don't get angry at any of my advice if you feel it's way off base and

inappropriate for you. I'm not telling you what you should do, I'm

only telling you what works for me.

- if you're not doing so already, consider tracking EVERYTHING you

eat and drink on fitday.com or any other nutrition & exercise

journal. I was shocked at how many calories I was getting even on

healthy food choices. I also am able to see a very clear trend that,

unlike most bandsters, I have to be below 1200 calories a day to lose

weight. It's so damned unfair, but I see that it almost never fails.

You might find your weightloss threshold too by tracking.

- I don't care how much water you're drinking, drink more. When I up

the water intake the weight starts moving FAST. Problem is that I

hate drinking the water so I go back and forth on it.

- Get a heart rate monitor. I have the kind with a chest strap and

wrist watch. I was walking pretty diligently, but it turns out that

without the monitor, I'm constantly falling under the fat-burning

heart rate zone, which explains why I was exercising hours a week and

seeing no results. That watch starts beeping if I go under or over my

target hr zone. That way, a half hour or hour of walking is 100%

efficient use of my time & energy. It's a lot more motivating to get

out and walk when it pays off. I always see a drop in weight the day

after I do one of my walks, and that was NEVER the case before.

- Go lower carb. It matters.

- Cut out caffeiene. That stalls my weight loss every time.

- Cut out all milk, even fat free. You might be lactose intolerant

without even knowing it, and when I manage to cut the milk entirely,

the weight starts coming off again. When I sneak in some milk, I'm

dead in the water for days at a time.

- Go buy yourself a pair of pants that you can get on, but you can't

zip & button comfortably. Hang them in your way, so you have to touch

them to get to your other clothes. Try them on every week to 3 days.

As soon as they fit, go get another pair of " goal " pants. I'm getting

mine from Value Village. It's been a huge motivator.

- When you go out to eat, have them bring the box WITH your meal (or

as soon as the put it on the table say " wow that's a lot of food.

could you go ahead and bring me a box for part of this? " . Do NOT

start eating until you've put most of the meal into the box, leaving

the proper bandster portion.

- water load before meals.

- My surgeon has given me an appetite suppressant which I take at 2pm

rather than in the morning, because my biggest hunger hits me in the

evening. The days I remember to take that pill, I eat FAR less in the

evening, and the weight starts coming off again.

Best regards,

Hi!!! Sounds like you are having yourself a pretty good battle going on. I

understand the depression and frustration. This too shall pass and you will be

on the way to losing as soon as your body learns that you mean business. Sounds

to me like you are doing great and have a great routine down. I think it is

good that you are allowing yourself " treats " in your meal plan as not to feel

deprived. It's funny (not like HA, HA funny) how our bodies like to hold on to

the lbs until it realizes that YOU are sticking with it!!! :)

We have ALOT in common...I turn 34 in August. I am 5'2 " , was banded on 10/25/04

and started out at 220lbs. I have been lucky that my 2nd fill on 1/28/05 which

put me at 2.25ccs and it working REALLY well, sometime too well (like when I

want to eat good stuff). I have alot of allergy/asthma/drainage problems that I

battle with. In my limited knowledge...you need more of a fill. I hit a 3wk

plateau so I added a protein drink daily on my drive home and now I am back in

the game (slow but steady).

Stick with it and S-M-I-L-E. You are a beautiful, wonderful and deserving

person and this WILL WORK FOR YOU!!! I would love to meet you at a dinner or

even at the bash. My cell# is 817/629-1069...call anytime, I would love to

chat!

Take care-

the other side of Lakeworth but before you get to Azle. we are

Tamara,

Dr. Fitzpatrick is in Portland and charges $150.00 per fill.

Her information is in the database section. Also, if you have

insurance, she might be able to charge part of the visit to them,

depending on your coverage. Who is your Dr. in Portland that did

your surgery and now charges for fills/appointments?

Good luck.

Well, it seems a bit strange things would be changed " in mid stream " ,

but unless you had a written agreement that said " free fills for a

year " or similar, then you're probably out of luck.

Not likely. But you can sure drive to Portland and pay $150 and save

some money.

I'd say be thankful for what you have available. My nearest fill

location is in your area, a day's drive away....or a flight and car

rental and then paying.

I know you said you don't want to go to Portland and pay for fills, but

I went to Fitzpatrick in Portland yesterday for the first time.

She was wonderful! I really like her. I paid $150 for the first

visit. Subsequent visits will be $90. My hubby went with me and we

spent the rest of the day visiting wineries and had a lovely afternoon.

For ME, it was worth driving to Portland rather than pay $350 and

Tacoma Radiology.

, I will be praying for you....estate matters are ugly as they are always

emotional for the family. So sorry you are dealing with this, on top of

pollen....that stress can't be helping matters. If it helps any, it'll probably

be better for you to deal with it quicker than further on as you may dwell on

the what-if's far too much....just an observation from my own legal

wranglings;o)

Hugs, and may all go well from here on out!

Jello was hard for me to the first week, better just stick with broth, gatorade, water, etc.

Tracie B. Help!

I took 2 bites of Jell-O this morning, mushed it and melted it in my

mouth and it felt like it wouldn't go down... it kinda stayed in

there, and I would (not to be gross) burp up Jell-O. What's going on??

This is very uncomfortable!

I need to eat something!!

For the first week, Jello did that to me. You may be tighter. I could only

take very small bits (like the size of your pinky nail) and then sip water

after. If you just can't get it down, skip it for a few more days. Stick

with broth, Gatorade, crystal light, Isopure, and sugar free popsicles.

Simply put, DO NOT take NO for an answer. Write to the insurance company and

appeal until they give in. You can also contact www.letthemhear.org and have

them advocate for her. Insurance companies tend to do this in hopes that

clients give up which results in them not having to pay anything. Also, have

her Dr. write an appeal as well. You should check your state laws regarding

this as some states require health care providers to provide coverage for CI's.

Check to see whether or not her insurance provider has specifically excluded

CI's from coverage. Best of luck to your mother!

back regarding my mom's C.I. surgery which may be in

jeopardy. I recently posted that my mom's surgery is scheduled for

August 23rd, but we just recieved word from our doctor today that

our Insurance company did not approve paying for the surgery because

they do not think there is sufficient evidence that warrants this

surgery for my mom. Hence, they wont pay for the surgery.

This is totally absurd because without both BTE hearing aids my mom

is completely deaf. She couldnt hear a valcano erupt. THe only

reason why she is not considered " legally " deaf is because she can

hear a VERY little with hear hearing aids. The bottomline is, if my

mom is not qualified for this then NOBODY should be.

Which brings me to the doctor. If the insurance company is claiming

that there is not enough evidence for my mom that leads to me wonder

what my mom's doctor is doing here. The audiograms should clearly

prove that my mom should be approved.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated here. WHat could/should

we do?

Thanks as always.

Lou.
