Hi Bonnie

I had a devil of a time finding borax in land! I kept checking the

laundry aisle of various grocery stores until i finally found 20 Mule Team

borax. My experience was that difference stores in the same chain stock

differently. It was the third Metro Food Market where I finally found it.

Keep looking and consider asking where you shop if they would order some. If

not, you can buy it on-line and have it shipped but it will be more expensive.

I plan on ordering from SKS Bottle Company after New Years for a number of

items. One I am probably going to order is a 1/2 oz. clear lidded jar I

intend to use for glitter gel, lip balm and solid perfume. If you are

interested, e-mail me and we can see if you want to split the order or go in

on my order because they tend to sell in case sized lots.

,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! My daughter was born 01/13/00 2 days early (not premature). She is also exclusively breastfed. I finally talked my husband into letting her vaccines wait until she is one year old (in hopes of never getting them, stalling for time seemed a good tactic!) Her dad is open to not doing all the vax but still thinks some of them can help or that we have some sort of obligation to help with herd immunity (which I do not believe works)... I feel that I now have another stretch of time to either (a) educate him until his eyes open to the dangers and/or (B) wear him down on the issue. LOL He is a good husband and father so I shouldn't make light of the issue like that, but since I'm dead-set against vaccinations and he is not, we have to find some middle ground for our daughter, especially since we will face this issue again and again as we have more children (hoping for four).

There's a lot of good information out there, and a lot of bad information too. I've tried to collect the best I've found on my pregnancy and parenting links page (I'm a volunteer host for BabyCenter.com so I prepared that page as sort of my FAQ) -- http://www.nwlink.com/~juliam/links.html#vaccine The first link there is the one I find the most compelling.

Of the vaccines being suggested for your daughter, DPT is by far the most dangerous and especially since she was premature, I would refuse or postpone that one off the bat. The direct links to encephalitis (swelling of the brain, sometimes fatal), juvenile-onset diabetes, and other serious problems are fairly strong with this vaccine. In Europe and Japan, DPT is never given until the child is two years old as they have found that significantly reduces the number of reactions. Hib is questionable; she is unlikely to be exposed to it if she won't be in commercial day care (and hooray for you for keeping her out of it!!!) so I would also refuse that one. Polio is iffy; the oral vaccine can CAUSE polio in your child or in other children or vulnerable adults, so I would refuse that form. The injected form cannot cause polio, so if you felt some sort of community obligation, I could see getting that one, MAYBE. There's no wild polio in this country, though, and the vaccine can cause some adverse reactions, so again, I don't see the need for that one either. That's my thinking on them. I am NOT a medical person, however, I have spent over 150 hours carefully researching the issues for myself since I became aware of the vaccine controversy last August.

By the way, Wisconsin is one of the states where parents can choose medical, religious, or philosophical exemptions to vaccines for their school-age children. This is not so relevant to you since you'll probably home-school, but it means the state actually recognizes your right to informed consent.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your decisions.

I have younger brothers (twins) that were born premature, a good friend of

mine who had a premature baby, and everyone else I know said that the ped

recommended waiting to give vaccines until the child was suppose to be of

natural age.

My daughter died from a reaction to the DTP vaccine, if you want to read her

story you can by going to:

where do you live? I'm in Milwaukee. Welcome to the group. I'm a teacher

as well. I don't about the no vax groups, but I'm sure someone on this list

will know!

hi stephanie, and congratulations on maddie's birth. i say kudos to you for

having the foresight to investigate your parental choices before blindly

forging ahead with the norm. it wasn't until the birth of my second

child,sawyer--10/26/99--that i was able to have the knowledge and strength to

stop the vax.

i too am a breastfeeding SAHM who will not vax., my first suggestion to you

is to make certain that if you do go forward with the dpt that it be the DTaP

version of the vax as it is less likely to cause reactions--do not let your

ped. use the DTP version. secondly, IMHO, the polio is a mute point we

haven't had any polio cases (other than those caused by the vax itself in the

US in 17 years), and thirdly, i would at least hold off on the Hib until your

child is a lttle older--since she was premature. but she is not in a high

risk group which according to the " what you need to know " papers given out

from a very pro-vax ped. himself states,: " situations that make it more

likely that a child will get Hib disease are: living in crowded household or

a large household; attending daycare; or having brothers or sisters in

school. " . so, i don't see your ped. concern over these three vax??!! it's a

very difficult choice to make and often times you are left wondering if you

made the right choice--but i figure it this way,i'd rather take my chances

with my child POSSIBLY catching a childhood disease NATURALLY and when they

are children--not adults--then getting the vax for the possibilty that they

may get a disease and running the risk of irrevsible damage to them when if

fact the likelihood of them catching the disease is small--have i said that

in any way, shape or form that makes sense?? <grin> trust your gut--you are

her mother and you will do what's right for her--i'm sure of that :o)

of course, the actual vax themselves are a whole other issue--are you sure

they even do what we're told they do?? do you know that many contain

themerisol? do you know that many contain aborted fetus cells or other

animal cells? lots of reasons to say no,IMO. hope this helps and welcome to

the list--it has empowered me and given me tons of good info and direction,

bye, brigit

Hi ,

My little Trenton was born 2 weeks early (not a premie) he is doing

wonderfully, he is now 7 months old and is the healthiest baby I know, he

weighed 23 pounds at 6 months (from 8.7 at birth). He was also breastfed

until 6 months, his first and only visit to the doctor was at 2 weeks old, he

has been to see a midwife for his well baby checks.

I am very happy that we have had NO vaccines, I was planning to just delay

them for a year or so, but have since decided that NEVER is even better.

Congratulations on your new little girl.

Hi Kate, I am petite as well. Begining body for life on Monday and

right now I am working out but don't begin officially until Monday.

It is fantastic that you have decided to make a change.

Up to two pounds a week no more is probably a good goal. Don't rely

on the scale too much. Instead concentrate on how you feel and how

your clothes fit. Make sure you take the before pictures, so that

you may compare and see how much progress you have made.

After I had my children, I changed my eating habits around as I was

feeling lethargic all the time. I have been able to maintain my

weight although my bodyfat is not superb, I don't look horrid

either. I don't like counting calories, instead I concentrate on

making smart choices with food. Hopefully I will lean down to 16%

bodyfat, right now I am at 21% and 105lbs. Please don't rely on the

scale. One can be leaner and weigh more than one who is less lean.

Very important.

Here is a run down on what I eat:

Breakfast: 1egg + 2 eggwhites ommelet, 2 organic & lean chicken

sausage, with whole grain toast.

1cup of strawberries

2--- apple with a dab of peanut butter and 2 lowfat cheese sticks

Lunch--Asian chicken salad, Marinated chicken breast with mixed

greens, red & green peppers, red cabbage, a tad bit of sesame seeds,

with a tablespoon of lowfat ginger dressing.

3- 3oz tuna with celery mixed with a teaspoon of low fat mayo, wasa

rye crackers, and an orange.

Dinner--- A small lean steak portion, grilled portabella mushroom

with a touch of aged balsamico, green beans with a drizzle of olive

oil.

4-- 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with 1 cup of melon or other fruit & a

tbsp of almonds.

That is it. I don't eat perfect all the time and sometimes I forget

to eat, but this is a good day for me. Some people stick to complex

carbs, some people eat more some less, some people don't eat fruit,

others don't eat pasta or any type of grains. You have to keep

track of what you are eating and see what works for your body. Eat

things that are healthy and you enjoy. Make this a lifetime habit,

don't get overly strict. If you cut out too many things it will

drive you crazy. Obviously save the treats for free day, such as

pizza, ice cream, sugary cereal, pastries, and so on. I hope I was

able to help. Best wishes, Bella.

Hi !

Welcome to the group. I am petite as well, five feet even. My first

challenge, I went from 152 to 128 (28%BF to 21%BF), then C2, I went

from 128 to 124 (21%BF to 17.5%BF). I did that never eating lower

than 1500 calories/day. Even though you're close to an ideal weight,

there's no need to cut your calories lower than someone who has more

to lose. Stick to the palm/fist portion sizes and you'll be fine. You

may find that you lose slowly too, fat loss slows down as you get

closer to where you want to be.

Good luck!

Maggie

hi catherine

welcome to the group. tae-bo can be challenging. it was discussed that billy moves quite fast for beginners and might be injured b/c beginners are not very familiar with the proper form. if you check on ebay they have the tae-bo instructional tape that breaks down the moves and could be very helpful before you attempt it again. i know many here are fans of the firm as well but i have not tried them. i am a cathe friedrich fan so if i do spend more money on workouts it might be more of her stuff. the only infomerical thing i got was a total gym and i actually got the older model from a yard sale. its okay but i much prefer my dumbells and barbells. i hope you enjoy this group and i have learned many things as i hope you too.

I just ordered the Tae Bo original set off

of ebay because it has the instructional included in the set..I got all 4 on

one DVD for like 16.00 plus shipping. I am going to work with that for

awhile and then move on to the Bootcamp DVD’s when they arrive.

Thanks for the pointer..

hi catherine! welcome to the group! it is nice to meet you!

i have taebo cardio circuit 1 and yep, it is much much harder to do than

walk away the pounds.

your purchase of the original taebo set from ebay was a good decision! i

think that everyone should go through a taebo instructional before they

start doing taebo and the basic workout in that set is definitely a better

place to start than the new cardio circuit workouts. also, check the

library, used book store or ebay for a copy of billy blanks book 'the taebo

way' which is basically the taebo 'bible'.

keep in touch with us on this list -- talking about our workouts really

helps me to stay interested and excited about working out.

Hi , you must have missed the Beachbody.com informercials LOL I have several of their workout videos/dvds they are AWESOME. I also have the ab lounge, it reminds me of my Dad's old slim gym if you remember that.

Anyway, welcome to the group. Like you I have problems staying motivated. The only thing I seem to be motivated to do consistantly is play volleyball, unfortunately I don't get to play very often except for this week!

Take care and welcome again,

hi kim! it is nice to meet you here! welcome to the group, i hope

that you will post often.

for ab workouts, check out cathe's 'ab hits', kari anderson's

'curl', beachbody's power half hour 'ab burner', the firm '5 day

abs', power 90 'ab ripper 200' and a new one, gilad's 'core & more'.

billy blanks ab work is always effective as well. i also like

mari winsor's and kathy smith's pilates workouts and 'pilates on the

ball' with lizbeth garcia.

ive done a couple of the new kickbutt/fitprimes and they are like

the classic firms... they are made by anna benson who made those old

firm workouts! they are pretty good, i like them, although some

people find them to be on the lighter side (or maybe that is just

the fitprimes, with the kickbutts being more challenging?).

i hope that this helps a bit,

hi kim welcome. i don't know anything bout the kickbutt/fitprime set other then what i have read on the sites and who is involved. but for abs, i always recommend tamilee webbs i want that body. there are two ab routines on here that are super tough, also short enough to add on any workout. i also suggest pilates. a great way to learn form and engaging the ab/back muscles as well as work the rest of the body. there is also cathe's core max. 3-20 min. super tough routines along with 3-20 min. premixes of the other workouts. a stability ball, medicine ball/light handweights are used. Hello,I've been lurking for the past couple of weeks, getting a feel for the group. I have to say that I love the video reviews and the show of support everyone has.I've been working out (on & off) for the past 20+ years. My first video purchase was of course Jane Fonda followed by FIRM volume One. I was also a member of Bally's for a few years, but got tired of driving to the club, so I started buying more workouts (Cathe, Kathy , FIRM, etc.) For the past month I've been following a FIRM routine, trying to get in 5-6 workouts a week. I really need to up my ab work and was wondering what your favorite Ab routine/video is. Also I'm looking for comments or recommendations on the Kick Butt / Fit Prime workouts. I've heard they are similiar to the old FIRM workouts.Looking forward to your comments,Kim

Welcome KimThe group IS amazing everyone is really friendly and supportive. The only abs stuff i have are billy bootcamp abs bootcamp and hip hop abs. I think hip hop abs is fun but not terribly difficult /challenging. 's abs are great and OUCHHope that helps :) I'm one of the 'newer' ones around here so i think other people would have much more helpful recommendations :)Glad you decided to de-lurk!Kris.kkdaley63 <kkdaley@...> wrote: Hello,I've been lurking for the past couple of weeks, getting a feel for the group. I have to say that I love the video reviews and the show of support everyone has.I've been working out (on & off) for the past 20+ years. My first video purchase was of course Jane Fonda followed by FIRM volume One. I was also a member of Bally's for a

few years, but got tired of driving to the club, so I started buying more workouts (Cathe, Kathy , FIRM, etc.) For the past month I've been following a FIRM routine, trying to get in 5-6 workouts a week. I really need to up my ab work and was wondering what your favorite Ab routine/video is. Also I'm looking for comments or recommendations on the Kick Butt / Fit Prime workouts. I've heard they are similiar to the old FIRM workouts.Looking forward to your comments,Kim

Hi!

I just found this group, and decided to join, as I heard today that I

will have both my knees replaced next June. I am so nervous, and afraid

of the pain after surgery. I am female, 60 years, I have fibromyalgia,

probably borreliosis, i.g. Lyme's disease. I live in

Lapland..........So no support groups here!!! LOL
