Hi Kent,

Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your dog, what a bummer to return to

that. Your vacation sounds wonderful and relaxing...which is a feat when

kids are along for the trip!

I can relate to your comment about Ben:

> It was really cool to see how much proggress Ben had made from last year

to this >year when we compared how Ben behaved during this vacation with

his >behavior at last year's Ocracoke vacation.

I find that summertime is the time when I usually assess the overall

progress has made. This weekend we were in the backyard and I was

doing a few things and realized that and Grace were both playing on

the swingset, and I wasn't chasing anyone! In the past, they always had to

have my full attention when we went outside. Every summer I realize it does

get easier...and I'm so glad to be able to appreciate those moments.

- We want details of how things are now from surgery! How are your

scars from the first surgery doing? How long did it take for the swelling,

etc. to go down? How much PAIN??? How much did you lose from the surgeries

themselves? Are you going to send a new picture to Tricia please????

Dr. R! I am feeling great after all of my reconstructive surgeries. Ride

my bike and/or walk several miles a day and I am down 183 pounds from my

heaviest. I have been cleaning out closets and recently ran across the

clothes I wore to NC almost two years ago and can not believe the

difference. I can easily fit in one leg of the pants I wore down there!

Now there's a great picture! Being able to fit all of you in just one leg

of your former pants would really be a great picture!!

When did you get the go-ahead to exercise after the reconstructive surgeries?

That is great! You can fit into one leg of the pants you wore to N.C. That is

such a blessing to lose so much weight! Glad everything went good with your

surgeries, and that you're happy with the results. Can't wait to see pics.

Congratulations, again!

Love from Oklahoma!

Yes...where did my baby go!!! And Grace has grown so tall this year, I am

feeling the itch for another little one. We are thinking of adopting

another child, possibly a toddler, but it hasn't gotten much past the

thinking stage. I need to hit the lottery first (although for those out

there interested in adoption...the house just past a bill increasing the

adoption tax credit to $10,000, now the senate needs to vote on it...good

news for adopting families).

Ann,

Glad you made it home safely. And congrats on the 4 lb loss. That's great.

And what's even better is that you're only 5 lb from goal!

Hey Guys and Gals!! Sure is good to be back home. We left Oklahoma on

Our son had a beautiful wedding in Erie Pa. then we took our time

getting home.

The Picnic was the greatest family re-union I've ever been

to!!!!!!!!!! It was so good putting faces with names.Everyone was so

friendly. Our own Dr.R. was as charming as ever. The food was great.

God surely was blessing us that day. He even gave a " Breeze " so we

wouldn't get to warm. LOL Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to

pull this thinf off so smoothly. You all did a super job!!

I'm going to start reading my back e-mails now so if some one wrote

me and didn't get a reply I wasn't snubbing you I just haven't got to

Oh one more thing to note. Amazingly while on a 3 week vacation I

I'm now down 108 pounds!!!! only 5 pounds from my goal weight!!!

Although I don't remember having diziness from watching a movie, I have had

the car sickness and the general sense of diziness that you mention.

Certainly you should ask your doctor about it.

It very well could have been due to altitude. It could be from medicine if you

are using eardrops, or any allergy meds that affect sinus/eustachian tube

pressure.

In general, I get lightheaded easily from lack of sleep or food, and I believe I

am a little hypersensitive to it b/c of the ear surgeries I've had. Also, I

believe

we get used to it and your sense of balance will return, even if you still

experience mild diziness.

Hope that helps.

Hi Disco-

Thanks for the info. I wish I could blame it on the altitude, but I

live in Denver, CO which is higher than Salt Lake City - Oh Well.

The only thing that I can think of is that this resulted from the

radical mastoidectomy I had in May, '01. We really haven't done any

traveling since then. It could be that I am more sensitive now as a

result of how extensive that surgery was. The surgery I had this year

in May was my fifth and wasn't really major, but maybe things get

worse each time they are in there.

Anyway, maybe the dizziness will stop someday. Thanks again!

, when did you have surgery? Because what you described was how I

was feeling all of the time after my reconstruction surgery last

year. My dr. thought It was due to the fake bone in my ear so they

went in and removed it last week. So far I haven't felt too bad. It

really is too early to tell though. I had the dizzys and car sickness

so bad that I could not function too well. Hope you feel better,

Charla.

Charla-

I had a radical mastoidectomy in May, '01. I then had surgery in May,

'02 to remove the c-toma that had returned as well as a scar band that

had formed.

I saw the Dr. today for my usual appointment. He said that seemed

really strange to him that I would be dizzy and car sick like that.

He's not sure what would cause it. Go figure!

Hope all is well with you.

They are still trying to figure the same thing out with me. I had ctoma surgery in Nov. I still have that roller coaster ride feeling, and cant walk a straight line. Car sick, I dont get, i just have that too much to drink feeling. They keep saying it is very strange....have sent me to a neurolgist last week for mri....

waiting for the results of that. They sent me to a balance class to compensate...that didnt work, and still they scratch their heads....

Hi Everybody,

Actually I didn't know I was " away " - there have been no messages from the

group for about a week - but I just figured that everybody was glued to the

TV and listening to the war news. Then I got an email message from

saying that stuff to me had been bouncing back and they cancelled me from

the list until they hear from me. I replied immediately and there was

mail this morning. I hope I haven't missed anything. If so, please let me

know. Take care everybody.

Hi,Everyone,

I hadn't received anything from the group either for about a week until today. Hope everyone is well.

Personally I'm trying to avoid CNN as one of my sons, Mike, is a nurse on the USS Comfort now if the Arabian Gulf somewhere.

God bless America!

Hi and everybody,

There was lots of mail this morning, so I guess most of us were glued to

the TV. My best wishes, too, go out to those of you who have dear ones

serving in the Middle East. Also wanted to say that I agree with that

going back to work for 8 weeks is VERY optimistic - I only had posterior

revision surgery (it was a big op, however) and didn't even leave rehab

until 8 weeks post-op. Don't want to get you down, but I think you should

give yourself extra time for healing. Also, try and get someone to help you

those first couple of weeks when you come home from the hospital. It ain't

easy, believe me. Good luck.

About swimming, I have the funniest looking, specially molded Swim Plug. With it I can Snorkle. It's up to your Doc of course, but after my CWD I can still swim (starting about 6 months after surgery) but I only do it recreationally not competively, so it may be different for you.

Good luck

My insurance does not kick in until December 1 so I can'teven see an ENT for a whle :-( My sons ENT ( we have a huge familyhistory of ear problems) told me he will send me in for a CAT scan assoon as I get insurance.Does anyone know if

it has returned - when I have it removed, since ithas been so long since my first one, will I have to go back for asecond look? Since part of my mastoid was removed already - will theydo the same type of removal or will I have to maybe have the one whereI cannot swim? I am a triathatlete and am scared of never swimming.Anything I can do over the next month to help prevent another earache? These things hurt so bad and I am a Mom so taking days off arn't anoption.AMy

> About swimming, I have the funniest looking, specially molded Swim

Plug. With it I can Snorkle. It's up to your Doc of course, but

after my CWD I can still swim (starting about 6 months after surgery)

but I only do it recreationally not competively, so it may be

different for you.

Thank you . Actually i don't swim competively, I just happen to

enjoy races :-) I am always one of the last ones in! LOL!! Good to

know I can still swim.

YEAH FOR JENIE !!!!

I know the feelings of anxiety. I usually play tough

guy of course, gotta be strong for my wife. I will

say for me the anxiety is heightenend the more I

research the procedure taking place and how they do

it. You will feel better. I know as I have gone

through 3 surgeries and am ready to do a fourth to

reestablish my hearing.
