Guest guest
Sounds like you are doing all the right things, a! Re: PJ's. . . they will usually say "flame resistant" on the label (but not always), but if they do NOT have flame retardants on them, then the manufacturer will put some kind of disclaimer saying that the pajamas are to be snug fitting b/c they are required to do so by law. I generally don't put my kids in PJs unless they say that they are to be worn snug (which is an indication that they don't have flame retardant on them). From: a Kunselman <shawna_kunselman@...>Vaccinations Sent: Wed, November 3, 2010 10:37:07 AMSubject: Re: Autism Beth, Thank you so much for this information! I am doing a lot of this already, some toxins are just hard to avoid and it makes me sick! I am a vegetarian and eat a mostly organic diet, however, I do sometimes eat a lot of refined white flour, so I need to change that. I also gave in to a lot of unhealthy sugary cravings toward the end of my pregnancy . Are pjs required to have "flame retardant" listed on the tag? I have avoided most medication but had to have c-section so I had the epidural, and antibiotics and some of the pain medication with that. I was on probiotics throughout pregnancy and continue to take them everyday. I just started my baby on them as well. He does not show any signs of food sensitivities yet, though he does have nasal congestion sometimes which I wonder about? I am also taking some vitamin d supps to get my levels up and I sometimes give them to baby (not everyday). Again, I really appreciate all this information...it helps to reassure me and ease my mind! a Kunselman From: Beth Lambert <beth1lambert@...>Vaccinations Sent: Tue, November 2, 2010 3:43:20 PMSubject: Re: Autism a, A Compromised Generation is available online at Amazon, and Nobles and Borders (as well as from www.sentientpublications.com) but some retail outlets carry it too. There is a chapter in there on how to prevent illness (including autism) written by Kobliner, RD. W/regard to preventing autism in young babies (it is a different story for pregnant women), there are a few guidelines: 1) No antibiotics, prevacid, prilosec (these are reflux meds), steroid medications or other medications that could cause gut dysbiosis (an imbalance in the microorganisms in the gut). This goes for the mother as well if nursing. 2) If mother is nursing, be sure to isolate any food sensitivities that the baby has (e.g. does baby have any symptoms like eczema, colic, reflux, blood in stool, etc.? these are a red flag for food sensitivities). Eliminate any suspected food allergies/sensitivities from both mother and babies diet. 3) Eliminate any/all possible toxins in the home (e.g., flame retardants on zip up PJs, canned foods [bPA exposure], aluminum cooking pans/utensils, PVC/plastics, household cleaners and other toxins, have water tested for heavy metals/chlorine/flouride, check for lead paint exposures, etc.). Mother needs to eliminate toxic exposures in personal products (e.g., deodorant, makeup, shampoos, etc.) 4) Nursing mother and baby should eat as much organic/pastured CLEAN food as possible (e.g., NO tuna or other sources of mercury in seafood, stay away from conventional chicken [source of arsenic and lead], eat only organic produce if possible, especially the "dirty dozen" http://static.foodnews.org/pdf/EWG-shoppers-guide.pdf, etc.) 5) Consider avoiding/delaying vaccinations --especially the flu vaccine. A child on an antibiotic (or recently on one) should NEVER be vaccinated. Good gut health, and a low toxic burden is absolutely critical for anyone who is going to be vaccinated. 6) Probiotics, probiotics, probiotics. . . this includes cultured foods for nursing moms (kimchee, organic yogurt, kefir, raw sauerkraut, raw pickles, kombucha, etc.). 7) Do everything you can to ensure that your baby has good gut health. How? probiotics first and foremost, then a diet high in fruits and vegetables (for both nursing mom and baby) and low in refined carbohydrates (anything with white flour in it) and low in processed foods. No GMOS if possible (most conventional soy, corn, and a lot of canola is GMO). 8) Vitamin D--get levels of nursing mom and baby checked. Levels of D3 should be between 50 and 100 per Dr. Hollick of Boston University and Vitamin D Council. The key is to 1) reduce oxidative stress (caused by toxins, allergies, chronic infections) 2) build/support good gut health (through diet and probiotic supplementation) and keep life as toxin free as possible, with as few unnecessary medical interventions as possible. There is always more individualized advice to be given, depending on the particular mother/child and their medical history, etc. but these are just some generic guidelines. hope this is helpful. The reason why this man believes that autism is an infectious disease is because they have found chronic infections (like Lyme and coinfectors, the new virus he refers to, etc.) in children with autism. It is not so much that the autism is caused by infectious agents, rather, it is that children with autism have compromised immune systems (due to gut dysbiosis, environmental toxin exposure and other factors, including vaccines) which cannot "kick out" these infectious agents. In fact, children with autism have dysregulated immune systems, which simply means that their immune systems are not operating properly. This can mean that they have underactive immune systems (can't kick out infectious agents like measles), they can have immune systems that are overactive (e.g., the kid who never gets sick) and they also exhibit autoimmunity (Dr. Anne Connolly demonstrated that children with autism can have autoantibodies to brain--which means that their own immune systems are attacking cells in their brains). See abstract title below. Siblings of children on the spectrum are likely to be affected either with autism or some other chronic illness or "psychiatric" diagnosis simply because they are exposed to the same environmental factors as their sibling on the spectrum (e.g. altered gut flora of the mother, environmental toxins, vaccine schedule, etc.). I can talk to you more about how to prevent autism in your four month old further if you are interested. Guest guest
It's nice to have a regular general/family doctor & /or a peds. Doctor to catch the stuff that we may miss. Or like in my 7th grader - to get the nexessary referrals for a specialist. Our insurance will take a referral from an MD then a chiro any day of the week. My daughter is having issues with her spine so we are going to an ortho doctor & will do chiro as well. Carlena Re: Autism This thread is so timely for me. We are scheduled to take our youngest to her two month appointment in a week or so and I am really struggling. I know one of the main reasons for the visit is vaccines (which I plan to skip). I am trying to decide if it is even worth it to go or not. Our current ped is cool with delaying vaccines which I did with my first two and as I have become more educated/aware I plan to not vaccinate our third at all. I am just not looking forward to that conversation so I am struggling on whether to go or not. My husband thinks we should go just to have a general check up and our little gal has an umbilical hernia and he wants that double checked as well. Any opinions? Guest guest
Thank you for the tip on zinc, ! I'll try this! I just checked my prenatal vitamin (organic and GMO-free), and it contains 7 mg of zinc per serving. My mother takes one zinc supplement daily, and hers is 30 mg, so I'll try taking hers. I've also heard that zinc is good for the skin and prevents colds, too.     On Wed, Nov 3, 2010 at 4:53 AM, JULIE GRIFFITHS <moppett1@...> wrote:  , Picky tastes are likely to come from low zinc......  a, A Compromised Generation is available online at Amazon, and Nobles and Borders (as well as from www.sentientpublications.com) but some retail outlets carry it too.  There is a chapter in there on how to prevent illness (including autism) written by Kobliner, RD. As for my baby, I have no doctor for him because EVERY pediatrician in my town refuses to take him unvaccinated and Family Practice doctors here do not start seeing kids until 7 years old. ugghhh.... None of my children have autism, even the partially vaccinated ones. It's not a given, just another source. I agree about not needing a pediatrician. I said sure, it's to sell vaccines, and added that my 11-yr-old had it over the summer. She and the dentist were shocked since they knew he was alive (!) and asked how "they" (peds) treated him. I said they didn't. I did it myself with my voodoo medicine, and he was just fine--horrible cough like I'd never heard lasting for months, but I didn't even take him in to be seen. Guest guest
Where do you live? Naturopaths aren't licensed in every state. In CT, they aren't supposed to sign physicals (although they accepted them in the past at a private school--probably because the doctor was a parent there!). I do take my kids to a chiropractor but usually after injuries and then "tune-ups," but not for illnesses--but that's because I don't really take them to anyone. Others can give better info on chiropractors than I can. Guest guest
I still like to visit a pedi or family practitioner to ensure that everything is okay (eg, they can pick up things I would miss like hip dysplasia or other anatomical/physiological issues) even if I feel comfortable dealing with infectious disease on my own thru homeopathy etc....but the challenge is finding a physician who can do this for you but who will also treat your child as a individual and not kick you out of his/her practice if you don't vax according to AAP schedule. Guest guest
Exactly. That is my feeling too. I am not anti-doctor, and would still like to use one for these things, but yes, the challege is the vaccines. Guest guest
Hi a, My daughter developed Autism but was never vaccinated. She contracted Lyme Disease from me in utero along with at least one other tick disease and most likely many opportunistic viruses and bacteria. Lyme compromises the immune system on its own and then add the other stuff. We removed allergens and she is gluten free casein free, already were chemical free and she has never been given OTC medications. When we discovered she was infected at 2 years old, (same time she was diagnosed Autistic) we brought her to the best lyme literate pediatrician in the world and we have her on aggressive antibiotics w probiotics). This along with therapies has basically resulted in an almost totally 'normal' 5 year old girl now however we are looking at other ways to combat the Lyme and boost her immune system b/c when we back off the antibiotics, she becomes Autistic. I definitely feel that vaccines aren't THE cause of Autism (obviously) but it is one of the MAJOR causes and I think they could cause it all by themselves (like when 9 are given in one visit!!) Guest guest
, were you tested for lyme? I've thought about being tested but I haven't been yet. My son on the spectrum has not been tested either because I am just now learning of that connection. I did hear, though, that the test is not always 100%accurate and can say you don't have it when you actually do.Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: <jenuhferr@...>Sender: Vaccinations Date: Wed, 03 Nov 2010 16:00:25 -0400<Vaccinations >Reply Vaccinations Subject: Re: Autism Hi a,My daughter developed Autism but was never vaccinated. Guest guest
I'd go and just keeping saying you're "delaying," just leave out the "indefinitely" part! I personally like that I have an MD for my daughter who has NO PROBLEM at all about the vaccines (I know I'm lucky) because I like having a record that I'm taking her to a doctor in case something comes up and Child Protective Services decides to accuse me of neglect or something because she is not vaccinated. At least I can show them that I brought them to a "real" (what they accept) doctor. I have her in elementary school with a religious waiver right now. Guest guest
Winnie, I'm in New York State. I don't think of a chiropractor unless there's an injury or something but I know I 've read of peole bringing their children unrelated to injuries. I just don't understand. I ment to say that I bring her to the pediatrician for physicals. That's it. I don't get prescriptions, vaccines etc from the pediatrician. I'm done with that. I visited my doctor who I visit for one purpose only and he asked me if I had the flu and pnemonia vaccines and I told him no. He looked irritated. He said, "it's highly recommended" and I said, "I don't do those." I may have to stop seeing him. He was trying to also prescribe me a peel to take but I never got it filled. I have to see him in a week. I don't quite understand why. Have you ever heard of Dr. Sebi? He's from Honduras. He was involved in a Supreme Court some years ago. Guest guest
Someone here from NY might be able to help you find someone good. I also find it annoying to be pestered about vaccines. I just went through that today with my dog who is at the tail end of kennel cough from our new rescue (aargh!). I only wanted them to listen to her lungs. The first thing the vet tech said was "I see you didn't get her the kennel cough vaccine." I said "and good thing since it clearly didn't work for the dog she got this from." Strange look. Then "so, you don't want to get the rabies shot?" Prepared for this, I tried to look totally baffled and said "Rabies shot?!?! I'm here to have her lungs checked!" Anyway, I never heard of Dr. Sebi. How was he involved in a court case? Guest guest
As long as you feel firm in your decision, and you have an actual reason to go that isn't based on her age but on something real, then go. This can be the time to see how the doc takes it when you announce that you are not vaccinating any more. Better to find out now if he/she goes ballistic on you (as has happened) or is accepting of this. But be prepared for the one or two favorite vaccines the doc will push. I've found they do this to warm you up to getting all of them, or maybe even to invalidate religious exemptions. The ones that will probably get pushed are the Hib for meningitis or polio, and the flu shot. You need to be strong or stay home. Guest guest
Winnie, When our second child was 18 months old our old ped started yelling, and I do mean yelling at me that I was unfit and since I would not care for my children she now had to do it. This was all over my delaying the MMR vaccine. She started throwing stuff out about me not having my children anymore, etc and I lost it and started crying and yelling back, and she scared me to death so I got the stupid vaccine. I hated myself for caving and still do. I feel like a sell out, but now I know better. Needless to say we switched peds and now our second is partially vaccinated. I just dread the fight that may come up and don't want to go through the same thing, but I better face it head on! > > > > > > Winnie, > > > > > > I like what you said. Guest guest
Winnie, It sounds like vaccines are definitely being pushed on people. I June, I went to the ER. I still don't know why I did that because I was nursing myself at home. I suffered first and second degree burns from an accident inside my home. At the ER, I was offered a tetanus, flu, and one other. They couldn't do much for me at the hospital but refer me to a plastic surgeon. It's all about vaccines, prescriptions and referrals. Dr Sebi is an herbalist from Honduras who was accused by New York State in the 1980's of practicing medicine without a license. He wasn't practicing medicine, he was naturally healing people. He was challenged by the court to bring nine witnesses to court that he healed. Instead, seventy-seven witnesses appeared to testify and he won his case against New York State. I thought about trying some of his products. He has products for adults and children. I've even considered visiting Honduras but this mess with the body scanners, I'm not too comfortable with. Guest guest
It is all about vaccines and drugs. I don't think many doctors know how to treat illnesses without them. I even told the vet yesterday I started my dog on Vit. C and she kind of shrugged and said it couldn't hurt. What?? Then she suggested giving my dog some Benadryl for her stuffy nose. Unbelievable. That's interesting about Dr. Sebi. What a great outcome! Guest guest
I just cannot believe that terrible experience you had. What nerve of that doctor! I can see why you're dreading it with the new doc, but remember: YOU pay THEM. If they don't sell what you want to buy, don't feel you have to go. It won't be the end of the world. Do you have to go now to check the hernia? Can you put it off? Guest guest
Truthfully I am not worried about the hernia. I am not 100% sure it is even what she has. I just played doctor and put the clues together. I think my husband is more worried than me Yes, that experience was something I will never, ever forget. It was completely horrible (obviously). Because of that I have such a hard time not dreading each appointment. I think I will probably go and just see how things play out. I don't think the new doc will freak out like the last one. I just remember I told the old doc about a CDC study I read that raised some questions and she also stated how dare I quote the CDC when I am not a doctor and she studies vaccines all day long---I should have said, well then how on earth do you see patients then?!?!? That statement was on top of what a horrid parent I was. I warn everyone I know now about her and to avoid her unless they will do everything she says to the letter. > > > > > > > > > > Winnie, > > > > > > > > > > I like what you said.
