Hi, ...my just turned 3 He is so precious and sounds a whole like your little man. does have sensory issues and just now learned how to drink from a 'regular' sippy...we are working on drinking from a cup with our OT, so that will come in time -- went from bottle to straw cups...as that was easier for him...he didn't have the motor planning abilities to lift the regular sippy 'up' to drink...

has had lots of therapy...still does and has come a long way -- hang on as it does get better. has lots of sensory issues...mainly my baby is a sensory seeker...so we have lots of bean bags...we allow for him to carry his little back pack around, play a tiny bit of tug of 'war', do lots of "pillow sandwich" type play --- Mostly our children need to learn how to play, as play helps them learn as well as connect with their world, their peers...We have always done and ABA/Floortime approach...the best of each... now will play (not like a 'typical' child, but he will) -- just today, he went into his room and brought out his fire station...he parks his cars in there and will even say, "let's go" and vrooommmmm so he's getting it...Be patient, as it takes lots of time and focus. You can do it!!!

At this time he still drinks from a bottle, I've had no success with any type of cup (I have a huge collection of cups--every kind/brand cup you can buy). I don't know if this is a sensory issue or if this more of him holding onto what's familiar or if this is his comfort item (he drinks

from the same bottle, I can't even change the type of bottle). I've tried everything I can think of--taking it away, trying cups, putting something he dislikes in the bottle and what he likes in a cup, pouring the contents of the bottle into the cup so he sees it's the same thing...everything. Taking it completely away has caused the issue that he refuses to drink (tantrums, crying, screaming, etc.) at one point he became constipated (maybe lack of fluids) so I caved and gave it back. Because he doesnt communicate well I can't reason with him, I don't think he understands what I say most of the time. I just don't know what else to do and any doctor, therapist, whatever has no solution for me other than to "keep trying" but they frown upon it all the time. Welcome to the group. My son is a sensory seeker as well. He LOVED his paci and bottle and it had to be the exact same brand of nipple or style of paci or he would scream! It sounds like you have tried a lot and maybe he isn't ready yet. If you want to keep trying now then I would set aside a week where that is all we worked on and instead of taking the bottle and offering the cup I would introduce the cup completely separately. Maybe you could give him a little chocolate milk or even ice cream in a cup so he learns to associate it with good things and let him have his bottle right there with the cup. Have you tried a tolerance program just having him take a cup with water or milk in it and pick it up then praise him. Once this is easy for him then try having him put the cup to his lip but not drink then lots of praise etc... doing it in small steps would allow him to get

used to the cup and might help him accept it. You never know what might work. Good luck! and remember my was sooo attached but even he didn't start kindergarten on a bottle LOL! Kellie

My son was on the bottle until he was 4 as bad as it sounds I accidentaly put

milk that had gone sour in his bottle...he never wanted a bottle again. In my

family we now call it the sour milk method and my aunt did it on purpose when

her son was still on the bottle at 4...it sounds bad but it works with no fuss

screaming, etc.) at one point he became constipated (maybe lack of fluids) so I

caved and gave it back. Because he doesnt communicate well I can't reason with

him, I don't think he understands what I say most of the time. I just don't know

what else to do and any doctor, therapist, whatever has no solution for me other

than to " keep trying " but they frown upon it all the time. I just don't know how

we can move past it? If you have any ideas, experiences, please share. Thanks so
