Guest guest
beth - I made mine in a 1/2 gallon jar which would also be 2 quarts/ 8 cups. All I did was take the average 1 gallon recipe and cut it in half. But I like my tea strong so I used 5 tea bags... just until I get myself some loose tea. Hope this helps. (unknown) HI Everyone! Is it possible to make a smaller batch of kombucha? Thanks, beth --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search. Guest guest
Kathy, I'm 13 months out and it gets much, much better. Occasionally, I still get a bit of swelling in the ankle but it goes away if I put my feet up. I continuted to ice my knee for months after surgery so you might try that if you have swelling. Also, I wore knee-high compression hose many evenings (not to bed, just for a few hours in the evening) in order to reduce swelling by the next morning. Even now, if I sit a really long time, it's a bit stiff but recovers within seconds. I can walk and walk now with no problems. Stairs are no problem now and before TKR, I couldn't go up and down without help. I never think about my knee anymore as it does exactly what it's supposed to. I think the turning point was really about six months and then even more at 1 year. But you will really notice continued improvement. -----Original Message-----From: Joint Replacement [mailto:Joint Replacement ]On Behalf Of kathy boehmSent: Monday, February 11, 2008 10:34 PMJoint Replacement Subject: (unknown) Hello,I am a new member to this group. I had a left TKR 9weeks ago. My recovery is going well, I think. I amstill using a cane when going out and about, canelesswhile walking in the house. Stairs are still a littledifficult for me. I am a school nurse and have goneback to working half days. I would like to hear from group members that are 6 - 8months or so past surgery and how they are doing. Ifind that when I am sitting for several hours my kneestill gets a little swollen. How long will thiscontinue? Also, do you ever get to the point whereyou don't think about your knee when walking?I guess I am just looking for information on what toexpect in the next few months. Thanks,Kathy __________________________________________________________Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Thank you ChrisI have had gallstones and the pain is similar, the thing that makes me wonder is that I had a kind of burning pain in the nether regions and I passed water a couple of times and it went away. Although I was not rolling around on the floor like I was with the gallstones, I am wondering if it was a small stone. But of course may never know although I think I had the same about 4 years ago. But of course when they found the gallstones it was decided that was it. I wonder what the chances are of getting both. I had a ruptured right kidney when I was 19 and had a scan not long ago and its a little smaller than it should be, I think you can get stones from old injured kidneys. Oh well I just hope it never happens again. Carol X (unknown) Hi Carol So glad you are feeling better. Sympathies with the kidney stones, had them 20 years ago and it was worse than giving birth. Luv Chris > > Hi there Friends > I am feeling a whole lot better now. I think I get either kidney stones or I believe you can still make gall stones even when you have had it taken out. Anyway I had my tests and of course as usual by the time you get them you are feeling better, no phone call so I assume all is well and the tests are normal? I shall have to go to casualty the next time it happens. I will post my test results when I get them, I think I shall phone the Consultants secretary for them. > > Carol > X > > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _ ____________ ___ > Looking for last minute shopping deals? > Find them fast with Search. http://tools. search.. com/newsearch/ category. php? category=shopping > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi Carol Yes when I had the kidney stones I had 3 shots of pethadine but only 1 when I have birth, but the pain is the same as it is contractions, the difference is with birth you get a breather between contractions and with kidney stones you dont. Its a pain I will never forget and hope never get again. Is gallstone pain in the middle between the bottom ribs, cos about a year ago I had a horrible pain in this area, like a massive muscle cramp, whereby I could not move, felt really sick, lasted about 3 hours, husband got up to take me to hospital, I would not go and started wretching, after about 12 wretches the pain went. Guest guest
Can you get OxyPowder over the counter? I have never heard of it. Thanks so much, I will try it. Miralax hurts my son as well. pj Since I was young I have had a pain right bellow my bellybutton that feels like I am being pulled from within. I get it from time to time. When i was in college a doctor told me it could be a hole in my abdomen wall. My daughter has a hole in her abdomen but does not have any pain. But she always complained of abdominal pain lower and was distended also. She was constipated and then withheld. When I gave her Miralax she seemed to be in more pain. I decided to do an elimination diet and found that the pain mostly went away when gluten/casein were removed from her diet. I took her off the Miralax and use OxyPowder. She occassionally has some abdomen pain but much less.>> Do your children complain of stomach pain? My son hurts all the time behind his belly button. He says it is a burning pain. We have taken him to a speacilist and he had many tests. His systoms sound like he has an ulcer, but the doctor never found any. No medication has seemed to help him. I don't know what to do anymore. He has an appointment with a GI doctor in April, because he won't see anyone under 18, but my son said he can't wait that long, I wish I could help him now. Does anyone have any suggestions? He takes Nexium but hasn't helped. pj> > > ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _____________ __> Looking for last minute shopping deals? > Find them fast with Search. http://tools. search.. com/newsearch/ category. php?category= shopping> Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Nothing for me since they cannot confirm it. I was told I would need to come in when the pain occured to confirm. The timimg never worked out. My daughter will have to have surgery at some point. They said 5 years old but that was before the ASD. > > > > Do your children complain of stomach pain? Guest guest
, my son also has constipation problems since he was an infant. His stomach would also be extended. I had to give him medication to help him go. He still has this problem, but I try to give him stuff from the health food store instead of all that medication he was talking. something like Flax seed extra fruits, the vegetables he would eat, brown rice, never white breads, things like that. but when he starts missing a few days, I have to give him that medication (Miralax). Keep us posted on how your doing. I know this is so uncomfortable for her. Have you heard of Senna tea? Its a natural tea to help with constipation. Please keep us posted on how she is doing? Guest guest
You can buy it online at www.Oxypowder.com. My daughter is almost 40 lbs and I give her one pill every night. If she does not drink enough water she complains that it is too hard. I give her 2 pills when this happens. The consequence is that she says it burns. She needs a lot of encouragement to not withhold. But I have not had to give her mineral oil in a few months. After she was off the Miralax she would withhold for a week and I had to give her a lot of mineral oil to get it out. The Oxypowder works if you stay on top of what is happening. Give a larger dose at the moment of firmer stool. If my daughter does not have a BM for one day, she withholds and then the Oxypowder does not help. > > > > Do your children complain of stomach pain? You'll have to go to the LPA web site at www.lpaonline.org to look up your local chapter and district director, who can tell you when and where the local meetings will be held. Guest guest
Jacq., Yes, it's good to get back to the doc for checkups. I just had another one on Thursday. Guest guest
Hello- I wanted to chime in on the burning of the esophagus. I was on Gleevec and had severe gastritis and reflux while on Gleevec. I was put on Protonix to try to settle the acid down. I also used a lot of Tums. I even had an episode of waking up abruptly during the night as I had aspirated in my sleep and had to go 911 to the hospital as I couldn't clear my throat. Scary, very scary. I ended up with aspiration pneumonia with that one. It burns SO bad when that comes up. Not like typical GERD disease but severe. You cant clear it out of your throat. For a week I was scared to sleep as I thought it would happen again and I'd choke to death. I ended up sleeping where someone was near me and practically sitting up to help everything stay down. The whole stomach trouble which led to massive diarrhea was ultimately while I switched to sprycel. I am very happy to report that these effects are remotely noticeable on Sprycel. Thank god, because I am not sure how much longer I could have lived like that. Best wishes to all- Hugs and Hope- 35 CML 5/13/05 Gleevec 800mg until 8/07 Spyrcel 100 mg since 9/07 Wife and mother of 3 (12,9,7) **************It's Tax Time! Guest guest
Hello Aliza, When I saw your age I knew it was time to say welcome to you. I am 62 and also have found good information on this site. I am fortunate to have good oncologists who specialize in cml. I recommend that if there is one near where you live that you consider contacting them. It makes a huge difference. I have always had oncologists who specialize in cml so I don't know what it's like to go to someone who is not. It must be extremely frustrating. Again, welcome to the site and I hope it continues to be valuable to you. I have benefited greatly from the information I have found here xsince 2001 when I was diagnosed. Cheers, L Re: [ ] (unknown) thanks jenifer: how are you doing on sprycel? do you find it better than gleevec as far as symtoms go? i've had good results on gleevec but, the gastritis has been not so good lately I have had chest pains noone including the cardiologist can explain . i mean i've had many problems before the cml that has only put the cherry on the icing.i have no education on the topic and franckly my oncologist does'nt say more than she has to . this group so far has enlightened me on many topics and remission isn't what i thought , not so simple. i'll seek more info on the topic. thanks everyone that posts. aliza gutierrez rochester n.y. 63 yrs. old diognosed 2006 **************It's Tax Time! Guest guest
I think the current approximate figure for dwarfism birth rates is 1 in 10,000 births. I believe this includes lethal forms of dwarfism, so I wouldn't know the numbers for those who survive to adulthood. Since the population of Canada is about 32.9 million people, that would mean about 3290 dwarfs. Guest guest
Thank you for your input. I did want to ask how you have your billing set up. I have heard that some RDs ask for payment in full up front and then have to patient turn in their bill to their insurance company for reimbursement. Since most insurances do not cover dietitian visits (with exceptions of diabetes and renal disease), I was wondering which would be the best way to ensure payment? > > > Does anyone do their own billing or work in private > > practice? Guest guest
Hi , I recently left my salary/benefit full time job to start my own practice. I got a per diem position with a home care company to help pay the bills during the transition. So far, it has been great! I am a provider for many insurance companies (long process but call each company in your area and get an application to become a provider). Most cover beyond DM and renal disease (hyperlipidemia, HTN, etc) and I just have to collect the copay from the pts. Reimbursement rates vary from company to company but overall they have been descent. Sounds like a great opportunity for you- with free rent and supplies. I would consider reducing your hours to part-time so you can try it out! Good luck! -Dara Dara Bergen, RDreneeschenk97 <reneeschenk97@...> wrote: Thank you for your input. Guest guest
My first suggestion would be to get a copy of Mold Warriors by Dr. Shoemaker. It is loaded with excellent info that should help you or _www.biotoxin.info_ (http://www.biotoxin.info) Sue Wow. I love this group. I am learning so much information that I never knew exsisted and I am both elated and pissed off at the same time. I have suffered for 6 months with what I feel as strongly in my heart as anything else, with mold somewhere either in my apartment or the preschool where I work. Anxiety attacks are also new to me and yet I have been prescribed antidepressants, ativan and am now seeing a shrink because this is what I was told to do by my doctors. I, too have been diagnoised with Fibromyalgia for several years. I never put two and two together either. I lived in a house for 30 years with mold in the basement. Though it was what I concidered contained and dealt with a few time, I never put any stock to this being a cause for my health issues. SO thank you to all of you out there who are sharing their stories. I plan on reading, learning and expediting all the advice given. **************It's Tax Time! Guest guest
Hey Dara, I am also setting up my private practice. I have been also trying to work on this insurance process, but I do not have a clue how it works. The only thing that I have done is got my NPI number, not sure what is next after this. It looks like you have gone through the same thing recently. Would you mind sharing with me the details of how to start accepting insurance? how would you approach insurance company? what forms or documents we need to complete to get reimburse and so on? Would be great help! Thanks for the time in advance.
