Guest guest Report post Posted February 8, 2011 Hi Everyone, I have been on xolair for three months now and have gotten sick with a very bad upper respiratory infection each time. Also, with my last shot I experienced a tightness in my chest and pain on one side of my neck. Has anyone had these experiences? I am a bit discouraged. Please report this to your prescribing physician so he/she can work with you to rule out the possibility of anything else causing these symptoms. It is that time of year, and we are all a population at risk for these types of symptoms, but you need to talk to your doctor about this in case it is the Xolair. Nurses should be trained how to give xolair. If my nurse gave it too fast I know I would have pain. Yikes! My doctor has 19 xolair patients. All of his nurses were trained in how to mix and administer it correctly. I have never had any pain except for regular allergy shots. Those burn like fire. When the Dr closed the office in Stone Mountain that was near me they taught my husband and me how to mix and administer the shots. Sometimes the shots will sting a little but mostly I have them with no problem. I bruise occasionally but only if I move the needle after I put it in. I don't inject anymore, because my insurance changed. On snowy cruddy days I sure wish I could, because I can't stand how these " down state NY'ers " don't know how to drive in the snow! I swear we are all born knowing how to drive in it. We'd still have PILES of snow left on the ground till July. But these " down state " primadonnas have no clue. An inch on the ground and they have no clue. LOL! Now...back to Xolair.....I was outside yesterday waiting for my daughter's school bus. It was so cold out that my lungs started to hurt, even with a scarf over my nose/mouth. Took me a good while to warm up. BUT I didn't have to use my rescue inhaler, which I would have had to do before I started Xolair in '06. It has made my life so much easier and not so stressful. I can do all kinds of work outside now....just not shoveling snow. That's what my teen age son is for! LOL!! I told the lady I had to sell my RRSP to get my shots. She was very helpful. I hope this process works and I can get going and staying on xolair. She mentioned that some older docs were hesitant about biologic drugs. That was in response to the allergist telling me people were dropping dead from xolair. Sheesh. Anyway, I will hopefully get somewhere now. Thank you and Doug. I was told flat out by one resp " that is expensive crap that doesn't work " ..... I have also spent some time on the phone with xhale actually crying my brains out when there were problems with my coverage. It worked out and they were quite helpful and caring....
