I am not sure if it is the glucosamine or the condroiton or the

combination of both that works. But I take the combo and it has

worked wonders for my nose!

Dear Steph,

I'm so sorry. I can't believe it's been five years since I was

sixteen, but it feels recent. I had Samters then, too, and didn't

know what it was. Everyone kept telling me I had the flu...for

months.

I hope you find a way to go to Spain anyway. I've been to

Europe six times and I've never been well for any of the trips. You

know what? Even if you kind of have to take it easy, it's still

fun. The sickest I ever was was in Amsterdam and it was still the

best time I ever had. I hope you go no matter what.

My polyps returned 2 weeks after my last surgery, one month

after the one before that. I'm done with surgery. It's a really

personal choice and I wouldn't advocate anything for anyone else.

If it were me, I'd probably go on Prednisone for the Spain trip,

depending on its length. Again, that's highly personal and I've

been on it for a couple years despite everyone's advice to the

contrary.

Mostly, I'm just really sorry for you that the aspirin

desensitization didn't work longer.

It's just a disease, though, and there are a million better

parts of life. I hope you find something to cheer you up soon.

My life isn't consumed by it. It's something I think about a

lot and I wonder about the longer-term consequences. But, while it

may seem that way for me, I go to school and I go out to eat and I

go on vacation and I go to work. There's a whole life out there

that isn't *this*.

And, even though I'm really sick right now, I look at it this

way: if I'm not dead, then I can do everything I want...just a

little more slowly.

We had a cat that died and my son was so upset. We have other animals, but he loves them all and took it really hard, because he was closer to this one. We were not really sure if we should get another right away since we had other animals already or wait. However a friend ended up giving him another kitten for his birthday. He still grieved for the loss of the cat that died, but he was also excited for the little kitten. The kitten kept him very busy. So it did help him quite a bit. Hope this helped, Sharon

Thanks Gail. We did get her a new cat today. We weren't planning on it. We went on a "field trip" just to get the lay of the land, so to speak. And she fell in love. The new cat is also gray. But this one is female and tiny. She is only about 8 weeks old and so cute. named her Yorks. I don't know why but, ok. Both and my older daughter are having trouble sleeping. We believe that the spirit lives on and they have said that they feel his spirit with them. It is so sad. I hate to see my children so hurt and I miss him too. Life is so hard sometimes.Gail Africa <lilies@...> wrote:

I am currently on my third dentist.

The first had bacterial endocarditis and had to quit when he began

to fall ill. Bacterial endocarditis is a bacterial infection of the

heart muscle and adjcent arterial tissue. Needless to say, there are

lots of chances to catch bacteria when you are a medical

professional.

The second dentist was a bit of a sad story. I used to be a janitor

and his was one of the places I cleaned. Eventually, when my firhst

dentist retired, I went to this gentleman, who worked until he was

80 years old and got floored with west nile virus. He was the oldest

person on record at that time to survive and recover from it. A year

later he fell down the stairs and had bleeding inside his cranium.

They did not want to operate on him like they've done with Prime

Minister Sharon, and he died a short while later.

My latest dentist, another fellow I used to clean for, is probably

approaching retirement.

Loss of the first two people hurt because I grew attached to them. I

also have a problem with their loss because it means my own little

world is ever-changing, and this in turn makes me feel insecure. I

could live my life just fine if I knew that every day would be no

different than the prior day, but of course that can never be, so I

have a constant underlying anxiety.

St. 's Wort usually gets rid of most of it, but when something

major changes, like a person dying or exiting my life, I find that

very hard to deal with.

Tom

Administrator

I was scheduled to go to the dentist today for another checkup on

that spot where I had the tooth pulled and have some of the more

sensitive spots checked. Just got a call though from the dentist's

office to cancel my appointment. The dentist just had to be taken to

the hospital for unknown reasons. He had been having trouble with a

pinched nerve in his neck last week, which caused me to cancel my

appointment then.

Hopefully it won't be anything serious. This fellow has been my

dentist for over 20 years and his daughter went to school with me

and we were friends. They also live right around the corner from

here and have been there for as long as I have been here, which is

to say 30 some years, though his daughter has long since moved away

and is married.

It will probably be next week before I find anything out on this.

Oh, that is sad, I had no idea he was sick either.

That is so unexpected, he will be greatly missed.

I know that insurance problems can really be a disappointment. I've

always recommended that we have " case managers " for ourselves because

they go to bat for us with the insurance companies. Additionally,

there's an orgainzation that is called " Let Them Hear " that has done

wonders for people who have been denied coverage for cochlear

implants. It's worth checking them out. You can find them at

http://www.letthemhear.org/

A Cochlear Implant is a prosthetic device and not a hearing aid where

many insurance companies seem to catagorize them. Once this is

established with the insurance company, the denial matter is usually

resolved.

I agree with Alice,

Check with your insurance company again. This time make sure the person you are

talking to is not assuming that a CI falls under hearing aids. The first time I

checked with our insurance for my son, I was told that CIs were categorized as a

hearing aid and that they would only pay $10,000 a year and I would have to pay

the rest. The lady sounded like she knew what she was talking about and she

explained she had experience with hearing aids and hearing loss, etc. When I

called a second time (the next day) I spoke to a different individual who told

me that CIs were categorized as a prosthetic and that there was no yearly max

and that my out of pocket maximum would apply ($1500) Woohoo!!!

Good luck dealing with your insurance provider.

I had one of those done with my surgery with Dr. Rice. Because

of my stomach being moved up, and not being able to eat as much at one setting

he wanted things to go through a little faster…so that I would keep my nutrition

up!! I did not have any problems until I had my gall bladder out this past May.

Now I have to take meds everyday (a powder drink YUCK), because I developed

dumping syndrome. I believe my body adjusted after the first surgery…but

couldn’t without my gall bladder! Hope things look up for you, I know

surgeries are no fun..At times I feel like I’m becoming an old pro at

them!! Sad isn’t it?

Subject: Bad news

I went to the Dr this week and found that the

gastroparesis is so

severe (my stomach has stopped working) that she thinks that is a

bigger problem than the achalasia at this point. So she would like to

go back and redo the myotomy and wrap then do a pyloroplasty while

there. It will require a few days in the hospital ( not something I

like) and who knows what eles. Does anyone eles have both of these

problems? How did I get so lucky.

I also have gastroparesis and thus far, have only been prescribed

Reglan to get things moving. It seems to help but I have not been

scoped since I started the medication to be sure. My Dr. acted as if

it was really no big deal. What is a pyloroplasty and what are you

option. Please stay in touch. It's rare enough to find somebody with

achalasia, let alone gastroparesis as well.

Looked it up for my own knowledge thought I would share

Definition

Pyloroplasty is an elective surgical procedure in which the lower portion of the stomach, the pylorus, is cut and resutured, to relax the muscle and widen the opening into the intestine. Pyloroplasty is a treatment for high-risk patients for gastric or peptic ulcer disease. A peptic ulcer is a well-defined sore on the stomach where the lining of the stomach or duodenum has been eaten away by stomach acid and digestive juices.

Gastroparesis, also called delayed gastric emptying, is a disorder in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. Normally, the stomach contracts to move food down into the small intestine for digestion. The vagus nerve controls the movement of food from the stomach through the digestive tract. Gastroparesis occurs when the vagus nerve is damaged and the muscles of the stomach and intestines do not work normally. Food then moves slowly or stops moving through the digestive tract.

I have been on reglan and so far it is not doing much. It takes the

normal stomach about 90 minutes to dump, it took mine over 4 hours

for anything to move. So I am on high dose reglan and not much is

working. So to surgery I go, they are going to cut the pyloris and

sew it back in reverse to help make a bigger opening so that food

will leave the stomach. It is a simple thing but one I am bummed

about. Sometimes this is done on kids and they grow up just fine. I

was just not looking for more problems to go with what I feel is a

hugh problem. If all goes well I will be able to eat once more.

Hey Mike

I was in nursing for years. Without knowing the numbers I can only guess but I

know that blood in the urine can be indicative of many things that do not mean

anything as serious as a tumor. I believe that liver enzymes can be elevated too

when diabetes is out of control as well.

I hope that the ultrasound shows that there is something going on that can be

fixed quickly. Hang in there and keep us updated.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear about all that news! Sounds like u got alot of scary

news along with what I hope is worst case scenarios. I hate shots...that sucks

a**.

My mom has been thru the ringer lately...elevated liver enzymes, burst blood

vessel, exhaustion, weight gain, diabetes (not as bad as yours), pain, sleep

apnea, and the list goes on...

Today she finds out she has Severe Aorta Stenosis, meaning hardened valve. Her

heart is having to work extra hard and still isn't doing a good enough job. She

is scheduled for a heart valve replacement. Dr said this valve is what has been

causing many of these symptoms. Scary but also a relief that she has an answer

for all these health problems. If she had exercised to lose weight like she was

told to do....dr says it would have killed her.

I hope it's nothing horrible, but maybe u will come out on the other side with

some answers. Just one thing can be causing many problems. I will pray it's

something simple but helpful!

Holly, hold on.......you can do this. Get some of that heat treated boric acid.....wash everything with it and put at least 2 cups in each"rinse" cycle. The Benzoyl Peroxide has been doing great at killing anything that gets on or in the skin. Cover the beds with plastic......if your Father is having a hard time with the plastic on his bed get several of those thin, cheap mattress liners that you can use on this bed and then wash it with each washing of the sheets. Hold on....you can do this.......Rita
