Guest guest
This is my first fall/winter since my 2nd cervical spine surgery. After my first fusion, the weather didn't seem to bother me at all. I actually got some some relief after my second surgery this past March. I'm now fused from C2-C7. I'm back in a lot of pain again and I think it does have to do with the weather. Also, I am wondering if anyone else uses the Flector patches? They seem to really work for me. Granted they basically are just numbing the area but hey, I will take any relief I can get. I don't take pain pills or muscle relaxers anymore. They just don't work anymore. I'm curious as to how any/all of you can take the same meds day in and day out and they actually continue to work for you? Doesn't your body build up a tolerance to them? I know that is why I stopped taking them. Its been a while since I have chimed in. I hope everyone has a pain-free weekend!!! Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T Re: Re: what do you miss most.. Most spinal issues only get worse with time especially if you are still working. I don't mean to scare you but that is just the nature of the beast. I wish someone had told me this next info. before I got where I had to quit my job. If you can take out short term and long term disability through work or if you can afford it a private company. Make sure you have disability protection on any loans and credit cards you have. And once you get to the point you feel you can no longer work get a sympathetic doctor that will help with forms and letters for your disability. Getting SS disability is a long process. Insulate yourself financially as much as you can before you have to quit work. I hope you get better and can continue working and living a normal life. As for the weather yes changes and extremes of any kind cause additional pain, stiffness and immobility. My pain is the worst a day or two before it rains. Guess it has something to do with pressure. Jane H. P.S.: Don't feel guilty. You did not ask for the pain. Do what you can and if others don't understand then they are not people you really need in your life. > > you can vacuum? evidently i'm on the wrong meds! > > > > > > Tom, > > > > Only when you can't so things anymore do you realize what you miss. I miss being able to work, go out with my kids without being in pain and suffering for days afterward, took my 5 year old trick or treating on main street on Tuesday and was not fun but she did not know that although the older kids do. I miss being able to garden, drive anywhere. I miss being able to clean my house with out pain. Going anywhere is painful but I do try so hard to make the most of what I have become. Guest guest
Colleen,,   I have found a small bar stool to be a back saver in my kitchen;can't stand long enough to chop onions, garlic, celery and the like. My hubby got me an electric fry pan which has helped tons as I can sit on my stool and make stir frys, and other complete meals in it. I also treasure my small electric chopper.   I treasure anything that makes my kitchen chores easier and my hubby is willing to help. Guest guest
Deb, I use a shopping cart to be able to walk across Walmart when I am working, & it eases my leg pain, & increases my endurance. I have been able to walk on a path, if I use a stroller. Using these things opens up the disc spaces, & relieves pressure on the spine. June [PainInTheNeck- Back] Re: what do you miss most.. At the moment am checking emails while cooking my back with a heating pad and waiting for the pain killers to kick in so I can go vacumn. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] >
Guest guest
Things I Miss Most: Hunting...God forbid I did kill a deer...then what? Leave it there? Combat Shooting Going Out To A Movie (not being able to sit more than 15 minutes) Going To A Restaurant (not being able to sit more than 15 minutes) Sex.........what a joke! Getting out of bed in the morning, hitting the shower and being out the door in 30 minutes instead of waiting 45 mins for the meds to kick in before attempting the above. Going on Road Trips....although I have to do it in my work....I wouldn't if I didn't have to. Not having to have everything planned out. Walking my dogs for more than 10 minutes. Boating and deep sea fishing.......did that last year...chartered...the captain decided to speed up and it felt like the wave from A PERFECT STORM... thought I was going to die. Body Surfing in the Gulf. Invitations from friends to do things.....after turning them down on a regular basis......they finally stop asking. Yardwork........not that I like it....but I'd rather do it than pay to have it done. Well just a few of my favorite things......I'll stop now.
