Cyndi,

Welcome! Have you seen the Down Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum page?

www.disabilitysolutions.org Click on Newsletters and then on Volume 3,

Issues 5 & 6. I think you will find a world of info there. Also, the Autism

Research Institute has a good web page and so does the Autism Society. You

should be able to use any search engine to find them. I think you will find

the Disability Solutions Issue the most helpful. Hope that helps.

Hi and welcome Cindi! My son was dx'd at 2 years old with autism. Seems

strange they are telling you that he is too young as early intervention is

critical, I'm told.

He is not too young to diagnose. My son was diagnosed at 3 and probably

could have been sooner if we had been to the right dr's. Have you been to a

developmental pediatrician? What area are you in? Be persistent..I'm sure

you are!

Hi Cyndi - Welcome to the group!

Our son, (DS), is 5 1/2 and was diagnosis w/ ASD at age 4. Our

big thing that we noticed w/ was that he tramatically

regressed. He used to do and say certain words and was not anymore.

Our big " wack aside the head " was looking at a home video tape of

when was 18 months. He was so alive, joyful and focused. He

could touch his head, nose and belly upon command.

also did alot of self stemming w/ his hands...waving items in

front of his face...loved to play w/ toilet paper for hours, and very

poor eye contact.

The school did not think he was autistic so we took him to a child

pys and was diagnosis after 2 short visits. It was so obvious!

Once we had the diagnosis, the school introduced ABA and has made a

difference. Small leaps and bound but leaps!

Take care!

> I'm new to the list - and not sure if I belong here- but suspect

that my son, (4 DS) should have a dual diagnosis but we keep

getting told he's too young to test still. He's developmentally

delayed and has had 6 heart surgeries - most of all before he was 3

months old. He just starting to walk but only holding onto

something, and will babble but won't say any " words " per se. He also

won't look anyone in the eye- and if he does, it's usually because

they have glasses on or it's only for a quick second. I'm not sure

what else I should be looking for so any suggestions would be great.

Cyndi,

Your in , TX- I know where that is, I go to

school in Plano, TX. I'm in McKinney, TX. Anyhow I'm

19 now- I didn't start walking till I was almost 2

years old, and I didn't talk untill I was like 3. I

was developmental delayed and placed in a special

school before I was 3 for a couple of years and then

started regular public schooling with modifications

and resorce classrooms due to my developmental delayed

which It's now callled learning disibility that was

diagnosed. A few years after I was in school I was

dianosed with a mild hearing loss, so I've recived

speech therapy, pt, ot, when I was little, and though

schooling with speech and hearing thearpy.

I wish that I was more help.

Stan,

Welcome! Congratulations on making the decision to begin the BFL

program and for entering the Challenge. You will find this e-group a

great source of support, encouragement, inspiration and information.

Have you had your bodyfat % tested yet. If not, it would be good to

do so. I did Atkin's last year and lost about 30 pounds, but

unfortunately some of the weight was muscle. When I got off Atkin's,

I gained even more weight back - all fat. That has made losing the

fat now even more difficult because with less muscle, my body doesn't

burn fat efficiently. BFL a is great program, and is something that

we can all LIVE with.

Please keep us updated with your progress and don't be shy about

posting here.

Welcome again,

Kathy

Hi Folks,

I thought I would drop this note to introduce myself. My name is

Stan and I live in Vancouver BC, Canada. I just started BFL today.

I just finished my first upper body workout and I can barely lift my

arms high enough to get them to the keyboard to type this message. I

have also signed up for the BFL Challenge. I don't need to lose any

weight. I am looking to lower my body fat and gain muscle. Previous

to this I had be following the Atkins low carb diet for the last 9

months and have lost around 45-50 pounds and am currently at 158

pounds. My LDL cholestorol never did drop enough while on the Atkins

diet but my blood pressure came back down to normal. This made my

decide that I need to do something different, so here I am.

I am trying to find a Way of Life that is healthy and challenging.

My dad had a heart attack on his 59th birthday. That was a year ago

now. Seeing your father in the emergency ward on the table all pasty

white and sweating with nurses stick needles and IVs in him is an eye

opening and motivating experience. I don't want to end up with the

same thing happening to me.

I have been reading all the mail on the list for the last week and

have really enjoyed it so far.

Have a great day!

Welcome to the list Sally!

I am so sorry about what happened to your child! My 8 year old had a

seizure 6 hours after his 2nd DPT shot and was eligible for the

compensation program. I'm confused about what you said about the doc

saying the seizure happened " to soon " after the shot? Check out

909shot.com website as it has lots of info about the reaction tables and

Compensation Program

The attorneys we worked with were excellent and I'm sure could answer

any questions about eligibility. Their website with phone numbers is:

www.ccah.com

We started our son on tegretol after his first few seizures...it was the

first of 11 meds we have tried....others on this list may be able to

address the homeopathic remedy question you had.

Prayers for your daughter and please stick with this list as there are

many to help and support you! Keep us posted!

Sincerely,

Maureen (Mom to Cael age 8, ongoing seizures and delays!)

Well, that's a new one on me. The seizure happened TOO soon! Boy, the

excuses they can come up with! Has the reaction been reported to VAERS? If

the doctor refuses to do so within 30 days, the parent has the right to

report it. Contact NVIC (National Vaccine Information Center) at

www.909shot.com They make it real easy for you to report it.

There is homeopathy as one means of helping your child. You can go to

http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/STEVELIST.htm for a list of classical

homeopaths.

Also there is a list of homeopaths (not necessarily classical-you really

want classical) at http://www.wholehealthnow.com/homeopathy_info/

Chelation therapy for removal of metals. Head over to the Vaccination Forum

at www.Mothering.com for in depth info on chelation and to hear about moms

that are using the therapy.

Wonder if the child might benefit from vitamin therapy. Both the virus and

the vaccines can draw Vitamin A thus creating a deficiency. Look into

supplementing with Vitamin A and even C. There's a good Vitamin C link -

seanet something. Maybe someone here can provide it.

Do you really believe in coincidence? I never have. Cause and effect -

that's how the Universe works. For every action, there is a reaction.

Welcome to the list. I'm just sorry that it took a reaction to bring you

here. Good luck.

Michele,

Welcome.....isolation can be a real problem when making some

decisions regarding our children and you can feel very alone. This

group is great to break down that feeling of isolation and is a great

Thanks so much, anne. My parents have no idea that we made this

decision (almost 2 years ago!) because I'm afraid what they will think.

Isn't that awful of me?! They already think we're nuts because we're
