Guest guest
I thought the same thing that it would be OK if they did bleed as long as they don't become solid orange. I'm going to be checking out some new colors of micas. If haven't purchased any in a couple of years because I went so crazy buying them when I first started out. Do you have a favorite company that you buy yours from?? Thanks Re: Homepage Pix > What did you use for color....mica, liquid, or what? They are mica with glitter added in, and they're not supposed to bleed. I'm not too concerned if they do though cause candy corns aren't perfect layers either. Guest guest
> Do you have a favorite company that you buy yours from?? I haven't bought any in years either. LOL! When I first started out I had no idea how far a bag of mica would go. Sooo, I've got quite the supply of them. And, everyone I've ever bought them from went out of biz or quit selling them (Sage Meadow Sundries, Stuff Likes, and Soapwerks). I believe Keller Naturals has the Soapwerks micas though. Terry had great colorants! I'm also really liking the liquid micas from The Chemistry Store. A little bit of those goes a long way too & no worries about smooshing mica pockets in the soap base as you stir. Guest guest
I have a lot of soapwerks (Kellers) micas and I love em. I also have some beautiful micas from the Scent Shack as well. Someone else has a bunch of colors too but I cant think of them off hand. Shaye
Guest guest
We have micas! I think we have a few that aren't up on the site yet. I have been working with them to see how they handle CP soap. I know many folks say they have problems with red and it morphing. I have had NO problems with our 2 reds morphing at all. Anyone here have problems with red morphing? I know a LOT depends on your recipe. I've had people have FOs go grey once they hit their soap, but are a beige with our test recipe. I wonder what they use in their recipe. ~Shyra A. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I'd never heard about the liquid micas. Or maybe I had but didn't really pay attention because I had such a large supply. Yup, I used to buy a lot of my micas from Soapwerks, too. I thought the names of them on the Keller site sounded familiar.....that's probably why. I'll have to check out the Chemistry Store regarding the liquid micas. Guest guest
So it's 'Zeus', huh? Cute!! Yes, that dog would DEFINITELY be taking for the walk!! I must have missed something..... is out of work? Re: OT- Can you identify breeds? > I think you hit the nail on the head.....german shepard/golden > retriever. - So sorry to hear about your dog! Losing any pet is hard. I'm thinking about you!!!! As for our dog, Zeus, thanks to dh naming him. He's an outside dog. I'm not one for keeping a dog chained up outside, but he doesn't even like to go into dh's shed. He is chained to the front porch now & hasn't even tried to get in the front door. is going to put up a dog run for him in the side yard so he's got plenty of room to play. We can't afford a fence now with not working, so that's going to have to wait. The kids love him!!!! He is so gentle with everyone. A very well- mannered dog. They argue about who gets to feed him & Zachary is trying to leash train him so he can take him for walks. gets mad because she can't walk him. She's only 6 and the dog would take her for a walk! We went to the dollar store yesterday to get him a brush, toys, and bone. LOL, they almost walked out with the entire pet section! Thanks for letting me know what you thought about the breeds! Guest guest
All righty.... Now I am replying to my OWN post.... Colleen, I was going to ask (but forgot) did you get your porch finished? I love the look of it in the picture next to Zeus. Kae > > Colleen, > > I just took a look at Zeus...he is a really sweet and friendly looking > fellow, for sure! I'm sure we'll find out when we take him to the vet, but unfortunately that's gonna have to wait until after dh goes back to work. He seems pretty healthy now. Guest guest
OMG, Colleen.. You mean he got laid off? After you guys go and move down there for his job and now he is unemployed? Boy, if that ain't a kick in the teeth. I know you love it there but that's just so unfair. But... I always say things happen for a reason so there's something good that's going to come out of this. Wait and see. Re: Colleen > I must have missed something..... is out of work? Yup, for about 3 or 4 weeks now. He's applying to just about every job listed & has heard nothing yet. Guest guest
I remember us discussing pets before and you saying that you really weren't a dog lover due to your fear of them. But I think this dog was sent to you for a reason He has found a wonderful home with your family. Re: Kae > > So.....Colleen, you guys take good care of that little cutie. I think > he was " sent " to your home for a reason , if you know what I mean. I totally understand . It's funny too because I am not a dog person. I've never liked dogs & am scared to death of them jumping on me or biting me. However, this puppy is soooo gentle & never really jumps. It is like he was meant to be ours. Pretty sad cause we've already bent over backwards to accomodate him & take him in when we are totally strapped for cash. Must mean that things are going to turn around soon! I hope!!! Guest guest
Colleen You go, girl!! I always remembered a letter a woman wrote (I think it was to Dear Abby) asking her if she was too old to go back to night school in her 40's because it would take her about 10 years to get a degree. The woman had stated she didn't know if it would be worth it because she'd be 50 (?) by the time she finished. Abby's remark was " and how old would you be 10 years from now if you DIDN'T go back to school? " More and more people are doing it these days, that's for sure. Re: My new soap pics Thanks for looking !!! I have an appointment on Monday with a professor to discuss my options. I'm not sure if I'll have to get a BA in education or if I can just get a Masters. We shall see!!! Colleen Handcrafted & Decorative Soaps http://www.countrymeadowcreations.com

Thanks so much for sending that thru !!! Everyone I've told has thought it's a great idea. The way I look at it, if I have to go to school for 4 years, I've still got over 20 years of my life to work before I can retire. I might as well put those 20 years to good use by having a job that is meaningful. LOL! Not to say that soapmaking isn't meaningful, but I won't be retiring from it! If I wanted to teach business at the secondary level, a Master's is probably all I would need. LOL, but high school kids scare me these days!! Guest guest
You may have to take some refreshers depending on how long you been out of school. Guest guest
> I thought that since you had taken the basics already, you might have only two years. I graduated college in 1992, with most of my courses geared towards business. I took as few " liberal arts " classes as I could! The lady I spoke to thought it might have been too long a timeframe since I took the classes to have them count, and I took those classes between '87 & '89. It'll all depend on what I need to do I guess! Colleen Handcrafted & Decorative Soaps http://www.countrymeadowcreations.com
