Blue Ridge Bone and Jone Orthopedic Practice in Asheville, NC is a great

practice! Dr. Karegeannes has been seeing me and did my surgery 6

weeks ago yesterday. He is awesome. I've had visits with orthopedic

surgeons and surgery, including replacements with orthopedic specialists

all over the country (literally) and Dr. Karegeannes is one of the best

as far as I'm concerned!

That's a bit too far for us to go, especially since we really like the

Physical therapy he's at right now and it's only two miles from our

house. We're going with one of the doctors that the PT told us about

at UNC Chapel Hill. That's about 35 miles from us.

I called his Primary Care Doctor to get the referral, and I also

already made the appointment, since it's not until September 30. Maybe

by then he'll have built up his leg muscles in the pool. Hoping the

paperwork comes before we get to the appointment date.

If there is anything anyone can think to help out, I really would

appreciate it.

I am four weeks post up now and still pureed diet, but with the burps.

I have been getting my strenght back and no problems there. Am just

about doing everything I have before. Not even having to take pain

meds, unless I get into spasm. The only way that happens is if I do

take something more solid.

Get tired later in the day, but don't forget we have had surgery and are

still healing on the inside.

Hang in there - sounds like you are progressing. I couldn't get

hamburger down right now.

Hi howard- Yes you will feel a little weak and sore,thats the norm.Also

you may not be ready for that solid of a food yet so dont panic and

think your surgery failed.You should maybe still be doing stuff like

fish,crab,mashed potatoes,gravy, soups, scrambled eggs and so on. My

son did the soft diet for about 6 weeks and then tried gradually things

a little more solid.Luckily to this day almost 2 years later hes eating

everything : ) So be positive and give it some more time

I had a heller and partial wrap last June. I didn't follow a diet

post-op. The nurse gave me a little booklet with a soft diet in it as

I left my appointment with my surgeon. I'm a nutritionist so we didn't

discuss it more than that. But at that appointment the doctor said to

eat soft food for the first few days and then a normal diet. He even

said some people have dinner the evening after surgery.

solid a food to soon, will this happen? I didn't get a spasm where it

closed off, but it just hesitated. Now I am getting paranoid thinking

the operation failed. "

I feel your pain. After surgery I was afraid to swallow the Jello I

ordered. I was letting it dissolve in my mouth but then this big lump

got away from my tongue and I helplessly felt it as it slipped

downward. To my immense relieve into the stomach it went! Alleluia!

Mission accomplished! I could eat solid food again after five weeks of

liquids! I felt like I had accomplished something momentous.

Hubby was not impressed. " You're just eating jello " he said. Yes, but

it was *lumpy* Jello so I was still proud of my newly redesigned

digestive system.

Five days post op I was reading and climbing the stairs when hubby

went by with a pizza. I grabbed a piece and had it halfway eaten

before I realized what I was doing. Normal diet from then on. Think

about it: by the time a hamburger (hopefully low fat) is chewed and

mixed with saliva it is indistinguishable from ground beef on a patty.

You are essentially grinding the beef in your mouth. This is gross but

when I was regurgitating stuff I was surprised by how well it was

chewed and in what condition it was when it entered the stomach.

Eating solid food shouldn't cause a spasm in the LES but it can cause

a spasm in the esophagus. After surgery you still have achalasia. You

can have muscle spasms in your esophagus for as long as you have live

nerves. Pre-surgery I would get hiccups if I ate too quickly. If I

hiccuped at the same time as I swallowed food would get inhaled. That

hasn't happened yet post-surgery because it's a habit to eat slowly now.

Things get stuck or go backwards if I don't wash them down with some

beverage (ice tea sans ice). It seems like every Thanksgiving I end up

with turkey coming out of my nose at least once. Or I inhale it. LOL

with all the coughing, blowing and regurgitating seems like turkey

went everywhere but my stomach.

Yep, done the weak and ache all over. I think we have a tendency to

forget just how much trauma has been done to the body because there is

no external incision. It takes time for the body to heal internally.

How long depends on what was done and in what condition we were in

before surgery. Were our nutritional reserves high? Or could we not

eat and so have low vitamin and mineral levels? If you have low

vitamin B levels, your body is going to have problems getting all the

energy it needs. Low mineral levels can cause aching. So can low

levels of vitamin D. Not only is the body traumatized by surgery the

anesthetic has an effect too.

I take a multivitamin and a separate mineral supplement. You can get

all the nutrients your body needs and all the rest and sleep it needs

too. If you need to take pain meds, don't be afraid to take them but

aching pain does not respond well to opiates at least in my

experience. Hot baths and showers and getting off my feet helped more.

Yes you will -- you need to stick to the 500 VLCD foods and amounts. If you lose more because of exercising, fine. But you stand a good chance of sabotaging the plan if you eat more than the 500 VLCD in the amounts and limited foods approved for the diet.

This is a metabolic diet and the 500 calories replaces the fetus in a real pregnancy. If you go over the 500 VLCD, you will upset that balance of 500 calories acting like the fetus in the early stages of pregnancy in terms of setting up the fat burning part of the plan.

You need to stick to the plan.

Yes. you will gain weight and you won't have the stamina you expect.

Don't be fooled by things you think you know like burning so many cals

per day means you can eat more. On this protocol that doesn't work.

The stressed muscles will retain fluid and water weighs more than fat.

Now, I guess, you might lose inches but Dr. Simeons does talk about

this at length if you read Pounds and Inches.

Now set up a ratio/proportion:

Convert 1 gram to 1000 mg

Take a metal pot with a tight fitting lid. Pour castor oil into the pot up to about an inch in depth. Add the flannel, pushing it down into the oil so that all of it is saturated. Put the lid on the pot and then put the pot into the oven (set on low) for about 15 minutes. Take the pot out of the oven with an oven mitt. Take the lid off the pot. Pick up the flannel with a pair of tongs and let it drain into the pot for about five minutes. Then lay it flat on the area you want to treat. Put a plastic sheet over it and then a heating pad on top of the plastic sheet. When the pack is finished, put the flannel back into the pot, put the lid on the pot, and put the pot into the refrigerator until its next use.Please direct all future questions directly to me atdudleydelany@...or call me at757-496-6580

I have mine in a two-quart glass casserole dish that I just pop in the oven

at 170 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes before placing it on the body. This

makes the pack nice and warm but hasn't yet burned anyone. My glass

casserole dish is an Anchor Hocking dish that also has a plastic lid, so it

functions as my storage container, too.

Enjoy the packs, they are the most wonderful thing you can do for yourself.

I've seen miracles occur with cycles of three days in a row.

Lynn, try mixing the whey with orange juice, warm coffee etc, or buy a

flavoured one. Twice a day works better than once as a minimum in

most people; many get better results with three or more servings.

Lymph moves a lot better with rebounding than jogging, and all tissues

that are bounced may firm up provided one releases enough HGH

growth hormone for adequate repair. The elderly may require specific

enhancement of HGH release.

My condolences on your dad's passing; I hope you are OK.

I really like the NOW brand whey protein isolate. The unflavored is

not yummy, the vanilla gives me too many carbs. So I blend 1/2

vanilla with 1/2 plain. Flavor is good, but not great. Then I added

a rounded teaspoon of inulin, which improves the creaminess when I

blend all the ingredients with a blender stick. Inulin also adds just

a tad more sweet flavor, and that helps also. I use much less water

than the whey package recommends. I drink the whey while sipping

coconut oil, or coconut oil plus Carlson's lemon flavored cod and fish

body oils. And squish the oils in my mouth along with the whey +

inulin, then swallow. Taste is yummy. Inulin gives me a full feeling

from fiber in my gut. 2 meals a day are whey, inulin, and oil. My

evening meal is regular solid food.

As I am on a low carb diet because of my diabetes, before I started

using why twice a day, I was getting muscle wasting because my body

would catabolize muscle to make carbs. My weight was dropping too low

(under 170, I am 6 ft tall, 63 years old) and I lacked strength to do

my daily chores. With whey, I replaced lost muscles, my strength is

better now than it has been for over a decade, and gained some pounds

(now up to 190) , but not too many, considering I was gaining muscle

weight rather than fat weight.

Duncan,

Thank you for your response. I will try the oj and coffee suggestion. I am still

having stomach upset taking the GH with oj. Any other suggestions on that?

 

Also, the rebounder (in my case the balance ball) how long do your recommend

bouncing per day for results?

I am also diabetic and am fighting fatigue like mad... I find myself very tired,

and not usually associated with blood glucose readings.....not a good nightime

sleeper...which might have alot to do with it...but am hoping regular use of the

whey will assist me in regaining energy.

will also aid in their absorption, which requires acidity. Maybe a betaine

HCl will help.

Rebounding for even 10 minutes daily will produce health benefits;

Lynn, meanwhile until you start getting better sleep from the amino

acids, try melatonin to help you sleep; it should work in less than 15

minutes.

I need lots of melatonin. I am a diabetic who needs to break sleep

twice, sometimes three times, each night. I like a 1 mg sublingual

melatonin tablet. I take 2 mg before bed, another 2 mg after my first

wakeup to go pee, and sometimes 1 or 2 more after my second wake-up.

I like GNC brand melatonin. I probably need more melatonin that many

people because I am nocturnal, getting to bed as the sun is rising.

Melatonin never worked for me but

I chew two Atrium Pineal Plus and

apply a nail sized dollop of Apex

Energetics AdrenaCalm cream

rubbed on different places each

night a half an hour before I want

to go to sleep. Works fantastically

well for me.

Duncan,

How does this play out when taking SomaLife? For example, many

hypothyroid patients have difficulty with digestion and absorbing

nutrients, requiring, I believe HCl. Would HCl be needed to get the

most benefit out of SomaLife, or would it interfere?

LArginineM2 as in ProArgi9 is most effective if taken at least 2 hrs

after eating and within 30 min of sleep. Is this the same w/SomaLife?

What is the best way to take SomaLife?

Lynn, 3 mg should be enough melatonin before bed, and 3-5 capsules

would be a normal dose of betaine HCl depending on the size and

content of your meal. One person on this list takes 10 caps with a meal

but that's unusual.

Most hypothyroids, , respond to a reduction in toxin load and

temporary thyroid support.

Anyway, SomaLife's amino acids are alkaline and an acid condition is

required for their dissolution and absorption. I suggest taking them with

an acid drink like OJ but an HCl or two would be functionally

equivalent.

SomaLife Halth Products points out that according to HGH research,

mornings are best for taking secretagogues for women, nighttime for

men. That said, the reverse is almost as functional if done on an empty

stomach. I take mine in the AM, and my wife takes hers in the PM.,

the reverse of the recommendation.
