, I think your idea is great. It gives some of us that don't

post often a chance to introduce ourselves.

My name is Kim. I live in Bonney Lake, WA and was banded on 4/12/06

by Dr. A in Mexicali. It was a wonderful experience and I'm so glad

it finally did it.

My Struggles: The true hunger pains have kicked in! I haven't had my

first fill yet and I know if I wanted to I could probably eat non

stop, because I don't feel any restriction whatsoever. In fact I knew

exactly when the swelling was down from surgery because I immediately

got hungry. I'm not drinking as much water as I should, but I'm

working on it between meals.

My Successes: Since surgery 2 weeks ago I have lost 14lbs and did not

cheat on the clear liquid diet! I have started excersing again and

have lost inches. My clothers are getting looser now and I have jeans

that are actually too big!!!

Thank you for your introduction and call for a roll call.

May I suggest a self-defense class? Some of my grads that have worked at

correctional facilities in California have been 'trained' in sd for the job,

butfound the interview did ask and it was helpful to know. Having a strong

physical body is a requirement in CA for such jobs. Not sure about Oregon.

Respectfully,

FYI my intro is on home page.

I was banded last May and have had 2 fills,I have only lost 25lbs.

At Christmas I had gained four lbs, {1st wt. gain}. Since the last

fill back in the fall I can eat the soft foods easier and get sick

with the real food. I go back next week and am going to ask him to

take some of the fill out. I did better without it. He ordered a

swallow test for this week and of course I could swallow the barium

easily. It was encouaging to me about you having some of the fill

removed and reached your goal. I feel this will help me get back on

track. Thank-you

Hi, " nurse-to-shine " ! It sounds to me that you're in the " soft food

syndrome " and it's rare to lose well. If we are so tight that we

cannot eat solid band foods, the band simply doesn't work. We have to

go back to soft and liquid foods, and these are always higher cal and

do not keep us full - so we eat too many calories to lose.

This is a very common reason for a slow loss, and easily corrected.

Fluoros are only a clue - are never the final answer. A great many

things can give a false or poor reading, too - including drinking hot

or cold fluids before.

Did the doc look closely at your restriction? It's much more than

simply being able to swallow - it's about how fast the barium goes

thru the stoma.

You might want to take a look at the Band Guide in the files,

called " Band eating rules... " . It covers a lot of basic band rules.

Maybe you'll recognize something that you didn't know or your doc

didn't go over, that could be contributing to your problems.

If you can't eat 1200-1500 cal a day of mostly-solid foods, including

2 3-4 oz portions of solid protein, you're very likely too tight, no

matter what the fluoro shows, and we just can't lose.

Please ask if you need any more information on this.

Welcome! There are LOTS of great people here. We try to explain WHY

things work and in a way that we all can undertsand (no " medical-

ese " ) and emphasize what we know WORKS. We're also pretty much known

for non-sugar-coated answers. We try to be gentle, but we also know

that we ourselves were in denial for many years, and hope to help

you mall STOP the denial! Sometimes that takes a small love-kick! :-

You'll always get honest anseers here, from all of us.

My name is Eileen. I was banded by Dr. Rumbuat July 27, 2004. I am down 60

lbs. Want to go another 30 but it is slow. The past year I was diagnosed with

fibromyalgia and I did nothing and felt sorry for myself, and regained 30 lbs.

So now I am back on track, exercising daily and eating good band ster meals. I

know that at 50 I am much healthier than I was at 40 since I am exercising.

I am the mother of 13 biological children, 7 still live at home and 8 grand

kids, two more coming. I am also a hospice (end of life care in the home) nurse.

I tend to give to everyone else and forget myself but I am not doing that any

more. I need to put me #1 so I can be around for years to come to enjoy our 10

year old grow up have a family etc.

God bless.

Hi my name is Donna and I live outside Toronto in Canada. I am 46,

married and graduated as a counsellor majoring in Criminal Justice

and Addictions eight years ago. Ever since then I have been a stay

at home mom to my 10 yr. old daughter. I was banded last April by

Dr. Cobourn in Mississauga, Ontario and have gone from 251 lbs

down to 190 as of today! Twenty years ago I weighed 261 lbs and

after having stomach stapling went down to weighing 113 lbs and was

able to maintain that (roughly) for several years. Like most people

who had the old procedure my stomach stretched back out and I am

really grateful I have been given a second chance (with my lapband

surgery) to gain control over my body weight again! My goal is to

get down to at least 135 lbs. (hey I'm twenty years older now LOL!!)

I'm glad I have joined this board as you are all very supportive!!.

Hi, Eileen! Sure glad you're here! We'll help you all we can.

I'm afraid ALL of us have put everyone else's needs in fron t of our

own - that's one reason we became overweight.

Banding is about changing that, so we learn and aceept thst OUR own

eeds and health is impt too.

I don't know how you do it, with kids and working too! I barely can

keep MYSELF together, with few other responsibiltities!

sounds like you're doig great again!

am down 60 lbs. Want to go another 30 but it is slow. The past year

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I did nothing and felt sorry

for myself, and regained 30 lbs. So now I am back on track,

exercising daily and eating good band ster meals. I know that at 50

I am much healthier than I was at 40 since I am exercising.

can be around for years to come to enjoy our 10 year old grow up have

Oh good, glad that is healing up.

Lord let me make it through V-Day. There are literally mountains of cookies and candies at work today.

How'd it go for you...? Did everyone "survive" the holiday...? I did alright with mine, no worries, moving along now.

Hey Hubby worked on the machine all day yesterday all that is left is putting in the pulleys for the weights and we're ready to go!

Yay - he should have it done by now (LOL!!) can't wait to hear of your new successes!!

Karyn,

Isn't that just too funny. I have a huge wall cubby full of toys for Kayla

(28 months). She wants our cell phones and books. I just gave a ton of toys to

my nephew...I figured when he got done with them, we'd get them back and

Kayla would think they were new! LOL

I try to put up a lot of her toys anyhow and just bring down a few at a time.

Is Adena into Singing Times Video's yet? Oh my gosh......we have the DVD's,

CD's and Books. Kayla is now?

I highly recommend them. Whenever my son baby sits her her he puts them on

TV so he can play the computer in the office and watch her at the same time.

Kayla probably knows 50++ signs and says the words w/the signs! We are so

proud of her.

She also sings the entire alphabet!! .....(Fridge Phonics gets a little

credit on this one) lol

Can you tell my why you are looking for a full day program? Just wondering.

=)

I am Karyn, married to for 3 and 1/2 years and mom to Adena, who is 33

months old. Adena is doing very well and starting to say a few more words. Her

favorite word right now is horse after we saw horses at a community event

earlier this month. She will start school in March although we do not know

where yet as we are requesting an out of district transfer so she can go to a

full day program. I work for our Early Intervention program and have worked

there for 2 years now. is going to nursing school and working as a

nursing assistant. We live in Texas. I think we could open up our own toy

store now since Adena has so many toys! We did not even get her that much for

Christmas and both come from fairly small families but we have toys everywhere.

Adena even has more at my mom's house that she has not even been interested in

opening. Right after we opened Christmas presents, she went in our bathroom and

got daddy's comb and dental floss and was happily playing

with those instead of her Christmas presents!

What a great idea -

Okay, my name is Jan and I am the mother of 4, once upon a time I would have

referred to them as adorable these days I'm guessing they are a bit too old

for that tag! I am married to and have been for a bloody long time

(33years), we have lived in a small rural town now for some 23 years and yes

I would move back to 'civilisation' any day - though I maybe sad to leave my

goats.

As we live in Australia, we are enjoying a lovely warm summers day today -

is on holidays and currently relaxed in front of the tele watching

the cricket.

my eldest is married to Fiona and will celebrate their first wedding

anniversary on St. s day. They live and work in Melbourne, ie

has been studying part-time during the past year.

our second has just completed a degree in teaching - she is also a

trained nurse which she didn't like, after spending a year in Japan teaching

English decided a career in teaching was far more her. She and her partner

Ross have been together now for nearly 18 months.

Shannen our baby - still lives at home with no intentions of ever leaving.

She is a dental assistant with a desire to open her own cocktail bar.

Trent our third child and the one with DS - still lives at home and attends

a day program in Geelong which I drive some 50k's every day to take him to.

Our local shire brings him home three days of the week along with taking him

in one morning giving me a break. I believe he is rather bored with his day

program and am continually researching alternatives for him within his

funding. Last year, he commenced working at Safeway one morning of the

week, collecting trolley's and doing some shelf work, which he loves. When

he is home, he is rather 'male' and enjoys sitting in front of the tele with

both remote controls and flicks from free to air through the pay tv

channels, in the hope of finding something he is interested in. When this

doesn't happen he will then watch the weather channel for awhile before

commencing the whole flicking circle again. Trent also enjoys cricket, as

such we are rather involved with our local cricket club. He also is a

member of the disability league which plays once a month during the cricket

season. Trent also has very itchy feet and likes to travel! His day

program where planning on a trip to America in 2008, unfortunately the cost

was a bit prohibitive for most and now they are headed to New Zealand. Not

sure whether Trent will join them or he and I will go somewhere else - at

the moment have loads of brochures to go through and make up pages for him

to decide what he would prefer to do. Although Trent is virtually

non-verbal I believe it is very important for him to make decisions daily on

his likes/wants. Since being more aware of his 'wants' I have found Trent

to be a more co-operative and settled person.

Keep smiling

Jan, mother of Trent 23yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder

What a good idea, thankyou!

I am Gundula, Canadian living in Germany now since 1972. I came over after

high school to spend a year here to get my german fluent and got stuck.

I have 3 big boys from my first marriage, 28, 26 and 22 years old. The 28

year old lives with his girl friend in town about 20 kilometers from here.

He is a software developer and quite happy with his job. His girlfriend is

still going to university but will be finished next year. The 26 year old is

an OT (like me) but went back to university 2 years ago and is studying

music in Holland. The 22 year old is in Canada at the moment going to

university for a year in BC studiying political science.

And then there is Fiona from my second marriage who will be 11 in January

and has DS as well as a ton of other health issues. She has been doing much

better during the last few years and I hope that keeps up. She is tiny, even

for a child with DS, but is developing more and more power and stamina.

She has pretty severe apraxia of speech, it is hard to understand her (for

non-family members) but that doesn't stop her talking. She loves

role-playing of all kinds, she re-enacts all of her hospital and doctor

" adventures " , her school days, her family life, everything.. In spite of her

apraxia, she is growing up with both languages as I intend to return to

Canada with her someday soon.

2 years ago I went through a serious bout of cancer (NHL) and since

finishing chemotherapy I have been working on restructuring my life. I had

an OT pracitice which I am currently renting out to a colleague. We shall

see what happens next in this coming year.

Take care

Gundula
