Guest guest
I presume to everyone, but people without hypoT can probably work it off easier. When I was at Slimming World last year people who were not losing much weight were told that it could well be because they are having too much diet drinks. I was a bit sceptical but recently read an article about it (cannot recall where), which made me realise that they might well be right. So yes it can put on weight for anyone, but only those who are prone to keep the weight on are the ones who actually suffer. I guess like anything, there are some people who could eat chips all day and not put on an ounce, whereas I have to just smell them and I do. At apparently that is true as well, because the smell stimulates the insulin response - so I read. Lilian Lilian, does it only affect hypoTs in that way or does it do that to everyone? Guest guest
Hi, thanks for replies. I was appalled at the aspartime rather than the caffeine. Bye bye diet coke!!!
Guest guest
Fizzy drinks are bad for your bones too, so you are doing yourself a favour dumping that coke! Guest guest
hi BiancaI follow a low sals diet and it works very well. I rarely need to take any medication at all - usually only if I have been "naughty". Then I get asthma and hives and my sinuses fill up.I am also allergic to caffine in any form - one time I broke my arm and the Doctor gave me Tylenol 3 which has caffine in it and I got all my symptoms - nausea, vomiting, cramps and the runs. Coffee is very high in sals but decaf isn't. So if you like coffee as opposed to caffine enjoy your decaf!!As we are allergic to salisylic acid it is no big stretch to think that salycalates might be a problem too.Maggiesamters From: bianca_f75@...Date: Mon, 27 Jul 2009 03:03:55 +0000Subject: caffeine I just wanted to share something that I found huge relief with. Because of samters I rarely have gotten good sleep. so to counteract that my intake of caffeine containing foods increased dramatically. I never EVER thought that there was a connection until I started researching salicylates. So, as difficult as it was, I quite drinking any caffeine containing drinks about 2 months ago. It wasn't of course a miracle cure, but my use of claritin D to combat my allergic reaction, the itching, the sneezing, etc...dropped dramatically. It may not be some fantastic break through - but I do know that it has made a huge impact. And trust me when i say I was really hoping this wasn't it, because I really wanted to be able to drink coffee. But I figured I would give it a try because something had to give. \ And believe it or not it did give..... And just to reassure myself that it was the caffeine I will drink a small cup of diet soda every once in a while and within 30 minutes I'm sneezing erratically and feeling miserable. Where I used to take at least 2 -24 hour Claritin D's every day. I only take about 2 a week now - and it's only when I've eaten or drank something I knew I shouldn't have. I did buy the Feingold diet book, don't waste your money. All the information on eating a low salicylate diet is all over the web. I can tell you though it did help with the allergic reaction and subsequently - any new sinus inflamation. just my two cents - Bianca More storage. Better anti-spam and antivirus protection. Guest guest
Maggie - It sure did amaze me at how much living on a low sal diet could really help me. Like I said - it wasn't a miracle cure but it's so nice to not have constant flare ups. I always said I can deal with the nasal congestion, but it's the allergic reaction that kept me miserable and in bed for hours and hours - until medication started working. and yes I do drink decaf.....I'm having some right now Its kind of nice. I can drink coffee and still fall asleep . -Bianca > > > hi Bianca > I follow a low sals diet and it works very well. Guest guest
Just for the sake of information, caffeine is not rich in salicylate, because caffeine is a single molecule which is distinct from the salicylic acid molecule, and does not have the same chemical properties. Like many plants and plant parts, coffee beans, however, contain many different chemicals, which may include salicylates. The reason decaf may have less salicylates than coffee is not because decaf has no caffeine, but probably rather because of the decaf method used, which is also likely to dispose of salicylates. Also FYI, the wintergreen oil aroma often used in cosmetics, etc is exactly the same molecule as methyl salicylate. Although wintergreen is not a mint, its oil is often used as a substitute to peppermint or spearmint oils. > > > hi Bianca > I follow a low sals diet and it works very well. Guest guest
I went completely off caffeine for many months a couple of years ago due to some heart issues. I did not notice any change at all in my sinuses. I went back to drinking caffeine and I did not get noticeably worse. I have heard of people being allergic to caffeine though, so maybe that is the case with you and therefore it would have a big impact! At least you can still drink decaf! K. Guest guest
- Like I had said I really really HOPED that it wasn't coffee But it was like clock work - I'd feel fine, have coffee, get to work and start feeling terrible. Sneezing, inflamation, runny nose..... Like I said it wasn't a miracle cure but it has certainly made things easier. I still miss it....LOL....it was like my best friend in the morning. -Bianca > > > From: bianca_f75 <bianca_f75@...> > Subject: caffeine > samters > Date: Sunday, July 26, 2009, 8:03 PM > > > I just wanted to share something that I found huge relief with. Guest guest
I suffer if I drink instant coffee or really crap stuff but fresh coffee, noting. Also I know some triad sufferers who confer the same as me. Guest guest
I drink Gevalia coffee decaf but take caffeine pills throughout the day with my pain meds. For me, it actually helps with the headaches, but inflammation issues, I don't know. Who knows, maybe it does make for more inflammation but I wouldn't know because my pain pills would mask the symptoms. all I know is that my face is usually distorted 90% of the time from inflammation and I absolutely hate it.
