Guest guest
I'm not a coffee drinker and never have been able to handle caffeine due to hypoglycemia - but a lot of folks on here seem to use it to wean off their coffee addictions. Note, however, that the author of ER4YT says we O's need calming herbs - not stimulating ones. Perhaps for low energy low thyroids are the culprit and I sent out an article not too long ago about the flouride in green tea and how the flouride is bad for the thyroid. I personally think you could find some better alternatives for giving you the boost you need. Gingko biloba is good for helping with focus. Kava kava or valerian root are good for calmatives. There are lots of formulas out there with synergistic herbs too for calming. Good luck. Guest guest
Depends how sensitive you are to caffeine. We have organic caffeine free green teas by me. Now that green tea is said to help combat cancer it's practically a health food drink. Aikya .. There just is not that much caffeine in tea, unlike coffee, and it doesn't sound like you are consuming it on a frequent, regular basis. Guest guest
I drink a lot of coffee and noticed my heart palpitations and being very excited due to caffeine. I think we just have to be careful of our intake of caffeine because it affects us differently since our bodies are smaller than someone of average height. I like to drink beer too and get that buzzy feeling even with just drinking one. Helen
Guest guest
Well , The same thing happens to me.I feel my heart trying to thump out of my chest,I feel drugged on the outside and like someone stirred me on the inside with a giant spoon.I feel anxious and snappy and fearful.Dale gives me _the eye_when I order my diet coke, but it tastes so good, and refills are free! Will I ever learn? I am laughing at my own stupidity as I am writing this-My doctor explained to me that it is causing funky heart contractions(I think it is called preventricular contractions)So,who would risk their health for a coffee, even a good coffee?Duh. Jill Caffeine Hi everyone, OK, who else has this problem with caffeine? When I drink something that is not decaffinated I look like I am literally having a seizure. Especially the coffee you get at coffee shops..the kinds like Starbucks...I shake so bad and my heart races. It also does that with really strong Ice Tea. I have now resorted to drinking decaffinated Ice Tea, and if I go get coffee I have to make sure its decaffinated. But I was just wondering if anyone else had this side effect from Caffeine? Before I started drinking coffee regularly, I was very sensitive to any caffeine and had a similar reaction to yours to coffee or tea. Now that I have a daily cup of coffee in the morning (I started when I was a medical student and had to be up very early in the morning), I'm less sensitive to the stimulatory effects although there is still a potent effect on my bladder and bowels. :-) Judy
Guest guest
Something else I noticed along these lines.... I had the same kind of symptoms after drinking soda and lots of caffeine as the second person who replied to this question. I tracked it (writing down on paper what happened and when and what preceeded it) and discovered that I only really had it after drinking the -carbonation-. I don't know how the digestive tract is in me exactly, but when I was having the heart fluctuation feelings, I was often able to burp and felt something gurgle and the pressure, shortness of breath, and fast heartbeat... would go a bit back to normal. Certianly if your doctor has told you it's the caffeine, don't drink it! But for me, I'm okay if I have a cup of coffee or tea in a day (i try to limit myself to two just to be kind to myself, though I'm so bad at that if it's ice tea in the summer), but if I have a caffeinated soda or even a bubbly bottled water, I get all those symptoms very quickly and severely. Something to think about. Jess On Sat, 20 Apr 2002 13:32:26 -0500, Judy B wrote: >lilone9919@... wrote: >> >> OK, who else has this problem with caffeine? But I drink decaffinated coffee and ice tea and I check ginger ale and root beer to make sure it is the decaf brand, and I 'TRY' to not eat CHOCOLATE! Guest guest
I came across this article on the effects of caffeine, and thought it may help sought out some of the concerns from those of you who posted re such:- http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/g2601/0002/2601000253/p1/article.jh tml or http://www.findarticles.com and then type in the above article number. I myself have found that I can only consume milk chocolate (in moderation of course) and not semi-sweet chocolate, because of reoccurring migraines. But at the same time, when I get a sweet craving, I try to turn to fresh fruit instead. I've just recently gone for MRI's of the cervix and brain, to help rule out other possible causes, re the headaches. I won't know the results until April 26. The water issue is really a separate issue, but I know how important those 6-8 glasses are day are and if you can go beyond that amount and up it to 8-10 glasses, then the better off you'll find your overall health to be! It won't cure 'everything' but it's a better alternative, than consuming more than 2 cups of coffee/and or two cans of carbonated beverages a day. Low-fat or skim milk is also another healthier alternative, in addition to the H2o consumption. Ann
Guest guest
Caffeine is one of my four food groups. Without it, I couldn't survive. But, my wife has a problem with caffeine, it does accelerate her heart rate. Her doctor said some people are overly sensitive to caffeine, similar to an allergy. You should probably have your doctor do a blood-workup for you. -Bill Bradford lilone9919@... wrote: > Hi everyone, > > OK, who else has this problem with caffeine? Guest guest
Hi ??, This is Dana, Caffiene is a dyeretic (spelling) and caffiene is hard on the liver. So it is supposed to be a no no. Now, I have a problem giving up caffiene but I did switch to tea. They say that is better for some reason. When I was on treatment and even now, I dehydrate very easy. That is why they say lots of water. I mix a little pedialyte with my water to make sure I replenish my system. Dana yclairedale wrote:I just started the peg-interferon ribaviran therapy last week. Guest guest
Hi Dana. My stomach can't tolerate tea -- I'll probably just switch to decaf. I must drink gallons of water every day. Whenever I feel a headache coming on, I start drinking the water and it goes away. At least that's working just fine in my second week of treatment. I just started the peg-interferon ribaviran therapy last week. I > like to drink coffee with some caffeine. Does anyone know whether > this will interfere with the therapy? Guest guest
Don't know if it affects blood test results but did you know that it is highly addictive? The sweetner used is not good for anyone, let alone a hypo sufferer. My advice would be to stop drinking it altogether and find a healthier drink. > Hello there, > > Can anyone tell me if drinking too much diet coke which obviously > contains caffeine can affect TSH tests etc? >
Guest guest
I have no idea about the blood tests but Diet coke is not good. There is the evil aspartame in it, caffeine and phenylalanine (not sure how to spell that) the stuff I could not spell is good for some people and bad for others, not sure whether for us or not. My policy is prior to finding out about something 'If in doubt leave it out' lol. Lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
And one of the worst things for hypoT's is that aspartame adds on weight. Guest guest
Hi and welcome, By staying around here, asking questions and studying the files, you will find out alot about your thyroid and become empowered in your journey to regain your health. You have already learnt that diet 'anything' is not good for anyone, better to have full strength coke. Heres another: 'soy' - look out for soy in packets of stuff as well. Soy blocks absorption of thyroid hormone. Just by eliminating Aspartane and soy from your life you will get great benefits. You are no longer trying to work this out all on your own, no doubt with some brain fog thrown in...........there is experience and knowledge in this forum with people who have more knowledge about thyroid than most GP's and Endo's - should you have a 'curly' question there is access to true authorities on thyroid. jenny freeman > > Hello there, > > Can anyone tell me if drinking too much diet coke which obviously > contains caffeine can affect TSH tests etc? > d > > thanks xx >
