Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for taking the time to post. As to your contentions that a number of the facts in the petition have no backing references, perhaps you should go back and re-read the petition. Each point outlined there is indeed fully documented. Part 1, which is the basic introduction to the petition illustrating 10 claims, states at it's close, " All points outlined above are supported by documented findings published in The Guardian; 'They said it was safe'; Boseley; October 30, 1999 " The points further outlined subsequent to the above - numbered 1-8, followed by another set of claims - are fully documented, as cited within each claim. I hope this clarifies and answers your concerns... For example, you cite: " Dr. Teicher, whose early 1990's studies linked Prozac to akathisia and suicide, is a co-inventor of the new Prozac, along with J. Barberich, the CEO of Sepracor Inc., (a Marlborough drug company), and W. Young. They filed their patent in August 1993, the same year Teicher published " Antidepressant Drugs and the Emergence of Suicidal Tendencies " , which concluded that patients on Prozac were at least three times more likely to become suicidal than those on older antidepressants. (Journal Drug Safety) " Using the science and medical search engine Scirus, PubMed, Medline, and Teicher's website at Harvard, the journal mentioned above cannot be found. This is what you want your citations to look like: Fava M, Dunner DL, Greist JH, et al. Efficacy and safety of mirtazapine in major depressive disorder patients after SSRI treatment failure: an open-label trial. J Clin Psychiatry (United States), Jun 2001, 62(6) p413-20 You're sending this to The Office of the Surgeon General of the United States; The Department of Health & Human Services; The Federal Bureau of Investigations and The Justice Department. Making the citations professional and traceable would make your assertions in the petition more believeable. Some of your other citations are newspaper articles. They are not considered valid sources of facts. I'd be glad to help with this if you'd like to pursue it. You're bucking som very powerful movement - pharmaceutical, medical, political. It would give you more of an advantage to approach this as professionally and acurately as possible. This is not a criticism. I want to help. Guest guest
Hello there - It's me Jamo here - I get what you are saying. If you can physically document said petition and attach where appropriate that would be a great boon to the SSRI Crusaders. I think that you could just cut and paste it up right hear, and INDEED lend credence to the Petition, Where it is due. You are correct in surmising the otherwise high quality of it..... Guest guest
I think this is what I would want but I am rather cross at the NHS right now, more so than usual. That his secretary for health should learn all there is about how undiagnosed illness affects every single person in the family and creates a burden to the state - hypothyroidism is THE biggest problem in this area and it is disgusting how people are becoming bedridden due to lack of knowledge and misinformation on this illness. Luv nne Petitions have long been sent to the Prime Minister by post or delivered to the Number 10 door in person. We can now both create and sign petitions on their website, giving us the opportunity to reach a potentially wider audience and to deliver our petition directly to Downing Street. AOL's new homepage has launched. Take a tour now.
Guest guest
Thanks Caroline and nne - I am keeping a list of everything anybody sends in. Guest guest
> .... we need to take just one issue and deal with that, but what do you consider the main one? Hi Sheila For me it would be that GP's only go by blood tests and that if you have a so called " normal " blood test you can pass under the radar for years before a correct diagnosis is made. Guest guest
I don't want a list of all the issues we experience within the NHS, we need to take just one issue and deal with that, but what do you consider the main one?Luv - Sheila For me, the main thing would be to get Armour licenced. There is no-way I will ever be able to get it under the NHS unless it is as my GP says he will never give a prescription for any unlicensed drug even if an endo asks him to. I can see his point, it should be licensed, then he will prescribe it. Val
Guest guest
I would say that dr's also learn about how to read the bloods when they prescribe it - trained by someone who knows what the heck they are talking about - due to my reduced precription this is very dear to my heart. Guest guest
Sadly Val - I have heard it would cost in the region of £8,000,000 to get Armour licensed in the UK. Where that figure came from I have no idea, but that is what I was told by somebody from the Broda Institute who market Armour. I doubt this will ever take place. It is up to your doctor and I bet you that he DOES prescribe unlicensed medication for children, as many of the medications given to children are not licensed. If you were living in a region where you had more doctors, I would advise you to change your doctor.
