I have two questions for the group:

1) Does anyone think the sugar content in the Myoplex Raspberry Frost Lite

Bar has too much

sugar for those of us, trying to lose weight? Mys sister and I had been

adding two to our

meal plans, and are now concerned about the sugar content and weight

loss. We don't want

anything to impede our progress. Should we switch to the Myoplex Deluxe

bars?

2) Per my brother-in-law (Brand Manager @ Quaker Oats). He doesn't want us

to use the bars,

because, there does not appear to be any long-term study of the effects

of using all of the

supplements authorized by Bill . Can anyone help us? I don't

want all of our

meticulous planning to go to pot!!!!!! I have faithfully incorporated

the shakes and bars

into my menu planning. After reading the group e-mails for several

weeks, everyone seems to

be fine with the supplements. Although, one gentlemen did seem to have

a kidney problem

associated with the shakes. We had haven't noticed any problems from

the shakes or bars.

Ok, to answer your first question: losing weight (and I hope you're really meaning body fat) has to do with what we eat - not just in terms of composition, but in terms of total calories. Myoplex Lite vs. Myoplex Deluxe - the deluxe version has significantly more calories and fat than the lite version. It has similar counts on the sugar, too. I don't think you're going to experience as much fat loss taking the deluxe version (if that's your main goal.) If you have diabetes, all of these issues have an impact on your insulin levels, and I'd invite you to consult your physician.

On to question 2, supplements such as those espoused by Bill and many people on this list have not had FDA approval as health additives or vitamins. They are not medicine. What they are: processed components of food products, chemicals. Granted, everything in the world is a chemical, but you won't find CLA in quantity of an EAS pill in one serving of beef (for instance.) EAS has taken the research of a few, and expanded upon that research. As a scientist, I know that a lot of trust (maybe too much) is based on those few research papers. Its similar to the adage: there's lies, damned lies, and statistics. Being knowledgeable about reading those research papers, the statistics used in them, and the proposed outcomes takes a lot of experience. You can't believe everything you read. All I know is what I, ME, personally, have read and researched. I don't take creatine.

I'm sure I'll get some flack for this, but there is a low threshold for creatine - you take over that threshold, and you just pee it out. Its expensive urine. This holds true especially for most women. I do take HMB and CLA, though. I drink a couple cups of coffee in the morning. I don't take ephedra (ma huang) because I have mild hypertension (I've had it since I was 12), and ephedra elevates my blood pressure further. Not good. I also take a good multivitamin, extra Vitamin E, and I eat all my veggies with some flax seed oil. Sooooo.... my best advice is to experiment a little. See what works best for you, and your situation. Everyone comes here with their own health baggage, and you have to suit up accordingly. You're going to get different advice from everyone you ask. Good luck.

Use the Lite bars for your weight if your main goal is weight loss. they

are 200 calories as I recall. A Deluxe bar is about 350. (don't have one in

my drawer, they're on order.) I wouldn't be concerned about the health

concerns unless you are allergic to Aspartame.

Hi Aimee,

Yes, yes, yes,....we have ALL stopped for pauses in our weight loss. It is

natural because the body is in a starvation mode to take steps to protect

itself.

I am 11 months out since my surgery and have had at least 3 times when I

stopped for 1-2 or 3 weeks. Be assured, you will start losing again.

Congrats on a great weight loss and don't worry, it will continue.

laaaaaw, aimee......... only 2 weeks..... i had a 6 week plateau

and i was CERTAIN it was all over....no matter what i did it would

not budge...a lot of these people remember it, goodness knows, i

posted 2 or 3 times a day sometimes, moaning and crying over

it....people were beginning to email me and tell me to hush--even dr

r asked me if i was on hormones! lol-- seriously, i feel your pain

girl....take it from one who has been in the same foxhole.... it

will pass.... <shaking head and remembering> try to keep busy, go to

liquids-- protein shakes, yogurts, cottage cheese,etc... that kind

of thing for like 3 days. sometimes going high protein will shock

you into losing again. by the way....take heart.....i was a size 28

now i am a size 6-8 and feeling WONDERFUL....i warn you though...KEEP

UP THE VITAMINS AND TAKE AN EXTRA IRON until weight loss stops!

anemia is my only regret!

hang in there sista!!

I don't necessarily agree with that. I think it all depends on HOW

much weight a person needs to lose. If someone has a significant

amount of weight to lose, they should look at their habits when they

start to plateau. I know too many people who have plateaued around

200-250 and stopped losing. A behavioral eating change may be what is

needed and only an individual can know that based on their starting

weight, present weight AND eating habits. You can eat around this

surgery. That is a fact. Those of US that had significant weight

amounts to lose have to be more in tune and respond differently than

those people with 100lbs or less to lose. We are all individuals. I

am not trying to worry people but I do believe we benefit from

hearing both sides of the story. My side of the " coin " started

heavier than most!!

Yes, I haven't lost anything for 3 weeks now. I had to go back to all

liquids and you think that I would still be losing. I've only lost 50 lbs.

I was wondering the same thing. Does it just stop and not start again?

i have a request.... i am not the most organized soul so could the

post ops (and some of us old-timers as well....)start posting our

surgery dates, pre op weight / present weight/ goal weight? we ALL

used to do that and it made it sooooo much easier to answer questions

knowing " where a person is " on this terriffic path!

now, without knowing anything (remembering the surgery date) i can

say in general that 8-10 pounds seems to be an average weight loss.

and you can stop and start losing at anytime up to a year...although

a friend told me at the party that she has never completely stopped

and is still dropping a couple pounds a month at 2 years out! most

stop by 18 months it seems but there are always exceptions.

now as for me.... i stopped and started MANY times...(plateaus) i

swear that was the worst thing in the world. BUT.... i lost the

weight i needed to lose! i thought my loss was over about 8 times!

LOL! i want to lose 10 more.... but i have stopped so i will have

to DIET!!!!!!!! yukkkkk! i will just go back to the way i ate about

6 months out and i will be just fine i am sure... good luck to

everyone out there and may you all winners by being losers first!

It came to this address! Guess I just needed to be patient and wait for the

thanks everyone, for your hints and tips on changing the address -- you'd think

that would make it just a bit more user-friendly, perhaps with a note that

it can take up to xxx minutes for the change to be activated!!!!!

I have two wonderful women who help me with the moderating. The moderating had

to be set up to keep people from sending spam emails to the lists and it is

also to keep people from sending pornographic stuff here. Once when I was out of

town someone sent some horrible thing to our lists and everyone was frantic

trying to get rid of it, so it is just easier this way.

Bonnie dear, the problem you seem to be having is different from that. It

appears it may be something related to your servers. I will try to check it out

for you today.

If you have not already done it go to the web site for the group and double

check to see if you have the correct email address listed as your mail box

there. If that does not work I will see what else we can do. does seem to

do some funny things sometimes so it can be unpredictable.

I will do my best to make sure you are taken care of.

Love to you,

culture size doesn't matter..... new mother will grow on the top....if your

culture doesn't float she needs more sugar.... she is your sugometer....

initial ph of brew is important.... 4.0 if you don't think it's low enough turbo

boost your brew with vinegar.... any vinegar.... natural state is of course

choice...

more sugar please.....she likes it sweet... or she will have to work harder to

The " mama " scoby may sink or float, but the new scoby ALWAYS forms

at the top. It's a biofilm that forms where the liquid meets air.

It will start out as a jellylike layer and then get thicker and more

opaque over time. My " mama " scoby sometimes starts out at the

bottom but gradually rises to the top so that the new scoby ends up

resting on top of it. In my experience, it doesn't much matter

where the original scoby lies in your vessel...some don't even view

a " mama " scoby as necessary at all as long as you have enough

starter fluid, so try not to get too worried about where the scoby

is.

The proportions I use for brewing KT are 1 quart water, 1/3 cup

sugar, 1/3 cup (or more) starter, and 2 tea bags. In my experience,

proportions don't have to be absolutely precise to work, although

it's always good to err on the side of more starter since it brings

down the pH and therefore wards off mold and other pathogens. And

you can always fine tune your brew by going shorter or longer as

necessary.

There are many methods of brewing KT successfully. This is just

what's worked for me. I'm sure you'll find your own method soon!

Ahhm, that's quite a good wing span ;-) will do fine!

Just pour the tea over it in the cooled sweet tea, maybe add 2 tablespoons

of distilled white vinegar as well just to make sure to give it a good

acidity to start with!

> So i figured 10% was 40 oz so i make 40 oz..... right? ... i fear i am

Yes, that would be way too much. Just give it the extra bit of vinegar and

that will do for your 40 oz of sweet tea... which is about 1.1 litres.

> I put in 40 oz or distilled water.... 2 green tea bags and if i

Yes, that's fine!! No problem!

> night.... if it is wrong is it to late to fix it?

You cna put the vinegar still gently over the top of the brew and then

cover again. No problem!

> Does the culture have to fit the jar?

No, it can be anywhere, any shape.

> If the culture is way smaller then the jar will the baby fit the jar?

The baby will eventually grow to the size of the neck of the top of the jar.

The baby always grows closest to the top of the tea surface.

> Oh im so confussed! HELP!

You are fine, honest.

Relax and smile and leave your brew alone for at least 7 days!!

Then you are allowed to look and try it carefully.

Margret:-))
