Guest guest
Hi Sue! We're scheduled for November 16th, but I need to call Jane to reschedule that date. My husband will be out of town for a meeting, and I definitely can't go by myself with both Ian and his sister. So, I assume we'll be going there a week or two later than that. Good luck on the 5th. I agree! I absolutely love Dr. K. I couldn't be happier with the care he's given Ian. -------------- Original message -------------- From: " jimsuec " <cappelli5@...> Hey , I was just wondering when Ian gets his next cast change. Guest guest
, That sounds great!!! I am soo excited other families will be there. We are usually alone. I am happy to hear Evan is doing well with this cast. My daughter is in her 6th cast. Her 1st cast was put on October 2005 and she was at 42 degrees. In this 6th cast Dr. Khoury has gotten her down to 8 degrees!!! I just love Erie. We stay at the Holiday Inn Express at Splash Lagoon so she can swim before her cast. She loves it!! How old is Evan?? Guest guest
, I'm soo sorry for your loss also. I just got caught up with current posts. We were original scheduled for November 9th at 6:30am. But we are going to Disney World for Thanksgiving and I wanted her out of the cast. I tried to get the next week after Thanksgiving. The Thursday, Nov. 30th but Dr. K. is out of town that whole week so you might want to call pretty quick! They bumped us to Tuesday, Dec. 5th at 6:30am. Let me know when they reschedule you guys. Guest guest
Evan is 14 months old and is in his fifth cast now. He started in March and was at 46 degrees w/ a pretty bad RVAD (in the 60's). We LOVE Erie as well, we go to Dr. and think so much of him. We usually stay at the Fairfield Inn, and there is a pool there. We may look into the other--he has tubes in his ears, so he can't do too much swimming!! How old is ? Are you close to a brace since her COBB is so good? We'll look forward to seeing you in December (let's pray for NO snow!!) and Evan jimsuec <cappelli5@...> wrote: , That sounds great!!! Guest guest
, will be 3 years old February 23, 2007!! We started Oct 15th of 2005 and she is in her 6th cast. She should of already been in a brace BUT....we did a waterproof cast over the summer. The results went backwards. She was one of the first kids to try the waterproof cast and they did not have it mastered yet. We were devastasted. Now Dr. Khoury is saying maybe just 2 more casts. She keeps her casts on for 3 months since she is over 2 years of age. Does Evan get his cast on December 5th?? Guest guest
Don't you hate you actually lost ground? It's so hard to know- who would've thought that the waterproof would contribute? Dr. mentioned the waterproof to us and I told him we would prefer for Evan NOT to have a waterproof, I figure that what we are doing is working so wonderfully, I don't want to change it. I actually had the date wrong, we come on the 5th and get the cast on the 6th. I HATE that, we never get to meet anyone! We had met a really super nice couple and their little boy- and he'll be there on the fifth. You'll enjoy talking with them. Maybe we'll still run into eachother. Do you all leave right after the cast, or will you be staying the night? We'll come in around dinner time on Tuesday and then we'll come to the hospital around 6AM on Wednesday and be there prob. until around 2 or so. jimsuec <cappelli5@...> wrote: , will be 3 years old February 23, 2007!! Guest guest
I justed wanted to add something about the waterproof casts. I know most of you who had this cast did not like it and had poor results. I am one who actually liked the cast and Cole still had wonderful results in it. Cole was able to enjoy bathes and swimming all summer and we gained about 10 degrees throughout the summer. He is currently in a plaster cast since summer is over, but the waterproof casts got him to 5 degrees in cast and 12 degrees out. I am sorry to hear that lost some ground. Hang in there. Dr. K will make her straight. Keep us posted on the dec. results. We'll be there Dec. 26/27 for Cole's 8th and hopefully last cast. /Cole <basketsnboyds@...> wrote: Don't you hate you actually lost ground? Guest guest
We actually got 5 degrees of correction in his last waterproof cast, so that was good. But, the lining did stick to his skin so he only got to get wet twice while in it (and there was all kinds of mold in there). The other little girl who was in for his cast last month while Ian was getting casted had to have hers soaked off her body because the lining was completely stuck to her. So that is something to think about when trying to decide which way to go. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Re: Re: Just Wondering? I justed wanted to add something about the waterproof casts. Guest guest
They said the 7th was the first available OR time, so I assume they are booked up on the 6th. Maybe while we are up there we can request to get the same day for the next visit. Although, Ian's next visit may be for a brace rather than a cast (fingers crossed!). I can ask Dr. K to try and schedule us together since I am the first one on Dec. 5th!!! I would love to finally meet some of the parents. I know Ian and are close in age. turned 32 months on Monday, Oct.23!! Are Ian and Evan potty trained yet?? It has been hard training with the cast on. is STILL NOT completely potty trained yet. My other 2 girls were completely done by 18 MONTHS OLD.....I am getting nervous!!! Guest guest
That sounds good. We go every 2 months. Evan isn't even close to going potty, no interest at all, I think it will be a while. He is only 14 months old. jimsuec <cappelli5@...> wrote: and , Let's see if we can schedule our next visit to Erie the same time. Do your kids' go 2 or 3 months in their casts??? Guest guest
That would be great if you could ask about scheduling the three of us together! Ian is actually already in a plaster cast right now. After our last fiasco with the waterproof cast (the lining completely stuck to his skin), we've decided not to do any more of those. We actually did get some good correction with it, but it is just not worth the hassle...not to mention it was moldy and therefore stinky! I haven't even thought about potty training Ian yet. He's just not showing any signs of being ready. He'll sit on it sometimes, but he's more interested in putting toilet paper in there than anything else, lol! I really wouldn't worry about it too much since she still isn't three yet...some kids just take a little longer at this kind of thing than others. Guest guest
Absolutely you should stay. Everyone had a different story and journey through this condition and all of the stories are incredibly valuable to share. Also there are kids who will get casting who will eventually need surgery and you will be a valuable resource for them. I also hope that we can still be a supportive resource for you throughout your journey. Jenn Mommy to Cole, 2.5 years old, 1st brace form Rochester, 2 degrees down from 47 after 10 months in 5 casts > > I was just wondering if I can continue to be in this group even though my son will not ever see a cast again for infantile scoliosis? I have written on here a few times before when he was going through the casting process. But now that he has growing rods at 3yrs old I was just making sure if its okay if I stay on here. I enjoy reading the progress that a lot of the children are making with the casting. And I would like to be able to help someone if I have an answer to a question they ask. If not thats fine I understand. > > My son actually got rods in on May 25th. So he is no longer a candidate for casting b/c the rods are making him straight. And they have done a wonderful job on helping correct his curve. >
