Guest guest
Hey Teri, I have been so sick this entire week that I have not been able to work at all. I have found out that I caught a bug from several of my students. That would explain why I feel so much worse. I'm trying to ride it out. I do think that I am going to have to talk to my boss and our HR director about what my options are. I know that if I can't keep enough dollars coming in, I will have to continue to work. I can't lose my house over this monster. I feel a bit trapped. I need to chat with my people and let them guide me. I just know that I am struggling. Thanks for the encouragement. My birthday was amazing.. thank you. Now as for you... If you start having a hard time at work, throw in the towel. Sometimes we just can't do it. You are a much stronger woman than I am.. My doc originally told me I would be off work for 2 to 10 weeks. Then he said.. maybe a few more months... I've been off work ever since and I've been done with treatment for years! There is no way in hell I could have worked during treatment. I don't know how you do it girlfriend. More power to you. Drink lots of water... it should help a bit. Spent most of the day yesterday in bed. I have to go to work today. It is going to be so hard. But I am hoping that once I'm there I will feel a bit better having my mind off how bad I feel. Guest guest
Ramona,You are working in an arena that makes it difficult to not catch a cold or a virus. Something to think about for ya.. When I started treatment I went out on FMLA and Short Term Disability that later turned into Long Term Disability. Not sure if you have those available, thinking you should at least have the STD out there for you. Talk to HR and see what options they have. I was paid full salary for 24 weeks on STD and then it dropped to 65 percent on LTD. Hopefully you have that option out there Fingers crossed that you do! Guest guest
Hey Teri, I have all those available to me. Ironically, I signed up for short term just a few weeks before being diagnosed. I need to do this ASAP. I am playing russian roulette with my health being in the environment at the college. And we aren't even in the fly season yet. Thanks for the guidance. Guest guest
Ramona, Awesome... now I have one question for you... What are you waiting for? A gold plated invitation? LOL. Yes, you are in a dangerous environment for someone whose immune system is compromised to say the least. And flu season has already started. It was way early this year and expected to last a lot longer as well. Flu cases were documented here in Chicago the first week of September. Scary huh? And it's a nasty one too.. I know this cause I had it. Hubs had it first and decided to share.. what a man. He was sick for 2 days. I was sick for 5 weeks. It was miserable. I'm not sure if I could handle that on top of treatment... actually, I am sure that I could not. You need lots of rest and to take care of yourself. Since you have the resources available to you, I'd take advantage of them. Long Term Disability will pay til about 3 months after treatment is over without any questions. They know there is a recovery period. After that, depending on the insurance carrier, they might stop payments. They did with me. I had to get an attorney to get some of the benefits that I paid for. Key word some not all. But they did pay without interruption from the moment my Short Term ran out until 5 months after treatment was over. Let me know what HR says... hopefully you'll be telling me you're out on STD very soon!
