Guest guest
I recently found out that I have candida. The doctor gave me Diflucan 200mg 2x a day and also a probiotic. After further research I am finding out that it does not seem to be that simple to get rid of the yeast. I have not done any type of diet, or anything else besides the Diflucan and probiotic. From some of the diets on the web some of what I eat that is " not allowed " is a lot of fruit (apples, grapes, peaches), black beans, lentils, brown rice, gluten free bread, gluten free cereal, gluten free oatmeal, almond milk and gluten free pasta. I have been 100% Gluten Free since I started the Diflucan (previously I was close but not 100%) and I am mostly dairy free as well (have been for quite awhile). I have taken two weeks of the Diflucan so far and was going to take two more weeks of it. I am wondering if it is a problem to do the antifungal first and then add in the other stuff such as the diet? I do think I experienced some die off symptoms but it is hard to tell since most often I feel pretty bad. Basically wondering if by not doing the diet am I just continuing to add to the problem? Have others ever taken a antifungal first and then started the diet and other stuff? I had thought I would finish the Diflucan and then start more natural anti fungals such as Oil of Oregano, Garlic etc. I am not sure the probiotic he gave me is a good one but of course it was expensive! Can you tell me which probiotics you have used and found successful? I saw a lot of people recommend Three Trinity but it is too expensive for me. I have found there are various Candida Diets on the web. I saw " The Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook " and Dr. Crooks alot. Has anyone done these or are there others that you have had success with? I see so much conflicting information out there. Sorry for the long post, I would greatly appreciate any advice. I have been searching the web for hours and it has just made me more confused than ever! With much gratitude, Jackie
Guest guest
Hi Jackie, As you say there is a ton of conflicting information out there. I can't begin to recommend exactly what you should do. However, since you've started taking Diflucan I will share with you what an M.D. who's supposed to be one of the " experts " told me. His name is McNett and I saw him in Chicago a few years ago (am mentioning this for who listed him as an expert.) Dr. McNett's firm advice was that while you are on the anti-fungal, do not cheat ever. He allowed brown rice and I think other gluten-free grains, as well as beans. Raw nuts were okay but be careful because usually they're moldy and that can be a problem for candida.  HOWEVER, he limited fruit to one-half of a not too sweet apple per day, or a few strawberries or other berries. He was really adamant that if you cheat while on the anti-fungal, you won't get better, and that you should be that strict for at least six months. So, because of his advice and also because of my experience, I think the idea of taking the antifungal before changing your diet is a terrible idea. As for sweeteners, corn or malt based sweeteners are very bad, and of course no sugar. Honey and maple syrup are also out. Lots of probiotics are good but be sure that they include at least three strains of bifidus bacteria as well as the acidophilus and lactobacillus. The bifidus feed off of candida, so are essential to help maintain balance in the intestines. ________________________________ From: jacingrace <jacingrace@...> candidiasis Sent: Tue, August 24, 2010 1:43:00 PM Subject: New Member-Would appreciate some advice  I recently found out that I have candida.
