Guest guest
>Supplementation appears to cause dramatic leaps in development in children receiving combination of fish oils (omega-3s) and borage or evening primrose oil (omega-6 oils) < Twice awhile back I gave Tristan Cod Liver Oil, just a small dose and both times he became red around his neck and face! He rubbed the areas as if it itched. So I didn't try it again. Should I try Fish Oil other than Cod Liver Oil? I have read that children should be on Evening Primrose Oil first and then later introduce the fish oil. Can anyone help with this?

Guest guest
<< I have read that children should be on Evening Primrose Oil first and then later introduce the fish oil. Guest guest
I've been informed by a research clinical nutritionist, that although primrose oil is a great way to get omega 3's; it does not work for kids under 10. For some reason, the under 10 set cannot process the good stuff. Other omega sources are fish oil (I LOVE Nordic naturals), walnuts, almonds and flaxseed oil or flour. Guest guest
Primrose oil is a source for Omega 6 not 3. So, I am a little confused by your email. Also, fish oil, and flax seed are sources for omega 3 and not 6. Was it just a typo? Guest guest
If I made a typo I'm sorry. The whole point of the email is a clinical nutritionist told me children under 10 do NOT get any benefit of primrose oil. Giving it to them is a waste of money. I had never heard that before and wanted to pass it along. Primrose oil should only be given to older kids. Re: Re: Fatty acids Primrose oil is a source for Omega 6 not 3. Guest guest
-- I tried cod liver oil too, and found that it made my son hyper. Later, I began working with a nutritionist who uses muscle response testing to determine which nutrients and at what levels of those nutrients to give him. She found that cod liver oil was NOT good for him (I had said nothing, just put it in the long list of things to check). Turned out he does better with flax seed oil. I use Spectrum organic flax oil (from the supermarket). Later I read that fish oils are not good for/should be used with caution by those in warmer climates. Guest guest
I would write Dr. Megson and ask. IT takes awhile to get a response. www.megson.com If you haven't read her work with autism and cod liver oil you should. Guest guest
,congratulations! Always great to hear when someone has a breakthrough in their health for the better. I'm especially interested in your getting better hair. I like to introduce one new supplement at a time to my body for obvious reasons, to see the reactions before moving on to any other additions. My hair sheds greatly while under stress and all my readings of hypoT symptoms have acknowledged that the loss of some of my eyebrows is due to those symptoms. I've been holding off in adding Fish Oils back into my diet and with your current success I'm encouraged to go for it. I also tried to increase my Vit C for adrenals and could only get to 6g before my body grumbled..lol So maybe the addition of the oils will help. Thanks Kathleen > > I bought some Carlsons Cod liver oil and have taken 4 teaspoons a day for 10-12 days now. I don't see the point to the pills. >Would you think it is just the fish oils? Theories? Did you say you had low cholesterol? This helps normalize cholesterol, it if you're low it'll raise it, and without adequate cholesterol you cannot have adequate steroid hormones (pregnenolone, progesterone, testosterone, Vitamin D, and bile.) Furthermore, it has Vitamin A which helps fight infection. Skipper _________________________________________________________________ Don’t just search. Find. I don't care much for fish so I had very little fish oil > or essential fatty acids. > I don't have any specific references handy, but there has been a TON of stuff written about fish oils. The specific fats in them have this sort of miraculous effect on lots of things. For instance: fish oil has a protective effect on the cartilage. People who take fish oil daily will likely not lose their cartilage in old age (osteoarthritis). There are these antibodies that attack the cartilage and the fish oil blocks the antibodies. Canker sores are often caused by autoimmune damage also (like the attack on the cartilage) ... IgA antibodies are in your saliva, and if the coating on your gums is thin (which is what the toothpaste does) then the IgA attacks your gums and starts the canker sore. (and then some bacteria move in?). Could be (theorizing!) that the fish oil blocks the IgA like it blocks the cartilage-eaters. I'm not sure where Vit C would fit in, for you ... it changes how allergy reactions work (usually for the better though!). Most people I know who get canker sores get them from wheat or dairy IgA reactions, with some exacerbating factor thrown in (like toothpaste). Canker sores are considered a classic symptom of celiac disease, in fact, the " sprue " in " celiac sprue " comes from the Dutch word for mouth sore. You can't actually OD on fish oil ... there are cultures that get most of their oil from fish and they do fine. Cod liver oil though is pretty potent and you should watch the dose. You want some for sure, because of the vitamin D in it. Vitamin D does amazing things too. -- Heidi BTW I don't think anyone has mentioned it here, but swishing with Listerine will kill canker sores pretty quickly. Gads those things hurt! Guest guest
ummmm....wasn't I the one who suggested CLO to you? Gracia I bought some Carlsons Cod liver oil and have taken 4 teaspoons a day for 10-12 days now. I also am taking a extra EPA/DHA capsules for a total of about 3 grams of each of EPA and DHA. This is up from just 1000mg for the previous 2 months. I have to say that that my dry hypo hair is like I haven't seen it in quite a while, soft and shiny. BUT the most amazing thing so far is that I am now taking 10 grams of ester-C (7 days now) without any signs of canker sores! I have never been able to take ANY Vit-C for more than 2 days without canker sores appearing let alone 10 grams! This has been a life long thing. My sister has the same problem. Would you think it is just the fish oils? Theories? I thought maybe the extra vitamin D from the Cod Liver Oil may have helped since I am now taking 2000mg. I planned on megadosing on the Cod Liver oil for a month or two and then dropping back to cut the high Vit-A and D. I tried to take the Vit-C during the Iodine dosing as much as possible but got these huge cankers and had to stop. As it was pointed out most of the body's vitamin C is stored in the adrenals maybe it works in reverse too...strengthening adrenals except more vitamin-C?? In retrospect I see I have been on limited fat diet for 12 years or more. I don't care much for fish so I had very little fish oil or essential fatty acids. I may be a little premature with rejoicing but this is really a breakthrough for me if I can supplement vit-c after all this time. Something is very different. Woohoo! __________________________________________________
