My information is old. I saw chia seeds being sold in a local food

co-op back in the days before the internet. It said it was good for

increasing energy. I checked with a friend who knew vastly more than

I did back then. I asked him whether the energy was real eneregy, or

if it just depleted eneegy stores of the body. After he did some

checking, he told me that chia depleted energy much the same way

caffinated beverages do. He may have been wrong. I had no way of

checking him back then.

After reading about chia seeds here, I happened to be at the HFS yesterday

and there was a display of them....so I bought some....lady said to just mix

with water or juice, that it makes a gel and is great for you.

Anyone actually using this yet???

Chia is a seed that's high in essential fatty acids and protein. I

love it - I feel like it gives me a lot of energy when I add some to

my green smoothies. I get mine from therawfoodworld.com which is the

lowest price I've found it at so far and Matt Monarch (the owner)

seems pretty trust-worthy (I've seen him in a couple of interviews.)

I've been pleased with his company and its products thus far.

Your not from around here are you. Every Christmas there are commercials

about the Chia Pet. Google it. Chia is a seed that you can sprout and

eat.

thank you, Thia, I will look into those. I guess he was kidding about

" dead seeds "

what is " Chia " ?

I love nuts for snack, particularly soaked almonds, and bananas,

apples, grapes. Goji and chocolate nibs together, or a teaspoon of

nut

paste , cashew, almond or peanut.

my favorite: fresh coconut when I can find it, delicious, healthy and

nutritious...

They still have those commercials?! I haven't had television in years,

so I get really out of touch with what's on it. I thought those

commercials ended about the same time that pet rocks lost popularity .

.. .

Shows what I didn't know!

i lost my pet rock in a sand box along with 3 matchbox cars - i still have

issues over that :)

it's true, i remember seeing a commercial recently.  I've never tried chia seeds

for food, but i know they're high in calcium and phosphorous (sorry sp) and good

fiber and manganese - i'll have to try some

Truth is that I don't remember seeing them for a while, but I'm told

that they are still for sale. I'm going to buy one for show and tell when

I do my sprout talks.

I know chia pets are still for sale because I've seen them online.

Having one for your sprout talks sounds like an awesome idea!

If Chia or any example grain or starchy seed is used as a staple food it will

feed dysbiosis and candida pretty good. Nothing more to it than that; you decide

if the value of the upside is better than the downside. You might tolerate small

amounts and not materially affect your bowel ecology.

But is chia really a starchy seed? It is mostly fatty oils, protein, and fiber.

It has less than 2 grams of digestable carbs per serving (with no sugar). It

seems to be ok for those on a low-carb diet, but not necessarily a no carb diet.
