Guest guest Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Hi, I have been a fungus factory for the last 5 years. I became resistant to fluconozole and I was taking really big doses of it with no effect. So my infectious disease doc prescribed custom-made losenges or " troches " . I get them made at a compounding specialty pharmacy where I also get my xolair. They put amphotericin B in a little raspberry chewy candy that melts in my mouth. Ampho B is a hardcore IV antifungual with horrific side effects but taken topically, it is not absorbed, it just kills the buggers. My fungus is constantly evolving (new life forms in the back of my throat) so now I alternate btw ampho B and clotrimazole losenges. I also try to rinse like a nutbar. They do make vaginal suppositories with the same antifungal in them. Same principle only different hole (sorry Doug!). There are other treatments for recurrent vaginal infections so do see your gyne and if they cant culture, ask for a consult to infectious disease or immunology. We have a drop-in clinic (mostly for STD checks) so when my yeast gets crazy and I think it's no longer sensitive, I go for another swabbing.... ps You can get OTC lactobacillus pills that have the same bacteria as in yogurt. Those work too for some ppl. pps I understand you may not have infectious disease doctors in the US. I guess the ppl to see is immunology. In Canada, allergy and immunology are the same person. Quote
