Guest guest Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 How horrible for you Barry! I understand completely. I like you use of perfumed gassing. I work in a Restaurant -Lounge and I get gassed from customers all the time. It is the worst allergen for me. I get really itchy . It used to make me totally asthmatic. I don't know if it is a sign of xolair making it better than it used to be or what. I only know that is seems like I react differently to chemicals more by scratching. The perfume -colognes make my fellow employees sick as well too and they don't even have asthma. I would love to have signs up saying no offensive perfume-colognes THIS MEANS YOU! in public places. People seem to marinade in the stuff.... Sharon In , " mister_manganese " <barryb@...> wrote: > > I'm about three months into Xolair treatment and I've been feeling > really great. Guest guest Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I have ended up in the hospital and even there had more contact with those who love to take a bath in perfume. I warn all who ride with me or in constant contact with me not to wear perfume. It makes me caugh and then it takes my voice away. It takes me a long time to get it back. to normal or some semblance of it. I also, am put on the evil candy and in the doctor's office. This is even with Xolair.... Hope you are breathing better. Until yesterday, that is. I went to a formal affair. Just to be safe, I took my Albuterol along because I was already wheezing due a perfumed visitor coming in my house before the affair. Now I got in the car with this perfumed person and had to drive fifteen miles. I was getting seriously gassed and my lips were swelling and tingling and my thoat started to close off so I apologized and rolled down the windows but that didn't help much. My breathing became quite labored and at one point I had to focus on staying conscious. Anyway, I did get to the event and things improved for a little while. But then I got perfume gassed again and could barely breath at all and couldn't even talk. I hurried outside into fresh air and started hitting the Albuterol. It took an OD of six puffs to minimally restore my breating. Then I had an Albuterol hangover and felt just plain miserable. Finally, on the way home, I got gassed some more and my lips and surrounding tissue swelled up like I'd been in a fight. At home I collapsed but really couldn't sleep until today. I fought summoning emergency treatment, as I always have during those visits to the gates of hell. In those situations one doesn't normally think logically anyway, except to get away from the offending allegen as quickly as possible. I will call my doctor tomorrow, which is Monday morning, and ask to stop in and probably get a shot of prednisone and follow up coarse of pills because I still feel really bad. I'm very sad this is happening. This was my first encounter with a perfume gassing since starting the Xolair, and it does look like perfume may be outside the range of Xolair and I have to tell you I am hyper-hyper sensitive to that disgusting stinky stuff. Even if someone nearby eats perfumed candy and has it on their breath I go ballistic. Oh, and tuna fish breath makes me want vomit. Any other Xolair users have any experience with a perfume gassing they'd be willing to share? Is there any hope? --------------------------------- All-new - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I was in a grocery store the other day and had a terrible sneezing fit because a man was wearing an overabundance of aftershave. My nose ran and my lips were swelling, and by the time I passed him for the second time, I was hitting my Xopenex. It really surprised me that it hit me so hard. I usually use it only for exercise induced asthma. --Kitty --- In , " mister_manganese " <barryb@...> wrote: > > I'm about three months into Xolair treatment and I've been feeling > really great. Guest guest Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Sorry you had such a reaction to your perfumed visitor. It sounds like you need to be proactive in asking visitors to please not wear perfume if coming to your house and to not agreeing to drive them if they do. I had to say something to a new person who briefly shared my office at work. I simply told her that I was allergic to perfume and that if I could smell it from where I was standing, it was too much for me. I work at a hospital, so I could add that it isn't good for patients, either. Good luck. Perhaps if Xolair helps with the rest of your allergies, the perfume will, over time, become less of a problem for you. Carol Quote
Guest guest Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I'm so sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I am very affected by all scents and perfumes, and I have to use specialty hair and bath products myself. For me, most scents cause sneezing, very itchy skin, and nausea. I can only imagine what would happen if I had asthma! People without chemical sensitivities just don't understand, and they probably don't really believe that perfumes and other scents can affect people in such dramatic ways. If only they could live in our bodies for a day...then they would quit bathing in the stuff! I also hope that Xolair may help with my chemical sensitivity, but I'm not betting on it. You never know though! Take care, Quote
