Thought a report on my situation may be encouraging to some who are

struggling. I have severe allergic asthma and have been on about

every medication out there, at one time or another. None seemed to

have much effect except Medrol (was on 46 mg daily at one time.) I

started Xolair in January 2006 (two shots a month) and it took about

6 months for me to see a significant change. The doctor is calling me

the " poster child " (a little misleading since I am 61 years old) for

Xolair. I have not had to use my albuterol nebulizer or inhaler for

the last 4 months, I am off theophylline and all the other meds, have

dropped to 10 mg of Medrol and on taper to go lower, am exercising

every day, lost 15 pounds, have not had a sinus infection for 5

months, no hospitalizations, and am feeling great. In addition to

Xolair, there are two other things that I think have helped. I use

sinus rinses twice daily. This really helps keep keep my nasal

passages open and clear. And, rather than generic prednisone, I use

Medrol. I accidently discovered that the dissolving rate of generic

prednisone and Medrol are worlds apart. The generic pill is like a

rock, and the Medrol almost dissolves before I can swallow it. It

sure seems like the Medrol would be absorbed by my body alot better

than the generic. For those who are early in their Xolair treatments,

my advice is to hang in there. I think the literature says that it

will take some time for Xolair to have an effect, so give it a

chance. For me, it has truely been a miracle.
