Unless I am really confused and don't understand a thing, MassHealth

pays $7.90 which is (20%) of the total fee the doctor charges.

Therefore, 80 % of the total fee would equal $31.60. If you add the

20% and the 80% the total cost of the doctor's fee calculates to be

$7.90 + $31.60 = $39.50. Does this sound right?

Subject: [ ] About one of the polls

Hi there!

I voted on the first poll about whether or not my doctor allows self

injecting, but I kind of got stuck on the second poll. I'm not exactly

sure

how much he charges per injection.

I am on Medicare, and I know that Medicare only pays for 80% of the cost

of

injection. The 20% I would pay per injection is $7.90, so I wasn't sure

how

to answer the poll question. Luckily, because I live in Massachusetts, I

qualify for our state funded insurance, " MassHealth " . They technically

pick

up that 20% for me, so in reality my out of pocket cost is zero dollars.

However, if I did not qualify for MassHealth, I would have to pay that

20%.

Anyone out there a math wizard that can figure out what the doctor

charges

per injection if my 20% is $7.90? I was never good with mathmatics.

So if I understand this correctly, and if Steve's math is correct (wink,

mine is awful) then my doctor charges $39.50 per injection. Who pays what

percentage of that is between me and my insurance company. Am I on the

right track now? I just want the poll to be accurate is all.

,

What I was seeking was how much the doctor charges your insurance, not

what you pay out of pocket. Mine charges my insurance company 114.00

a shot and reports them as chemotherapy. My insurance is NOT in

network with them so it will not cover 65.00 of it, then pays the rest

at 70%. Needless to say, I pay for MOST of the cost myself.

Hope this helps,

Doug

Thanks so much Steve. I played around with the numbers just before I sent

my post, and amazingly, I got the same answers, LOL. I'm really impressed

with myself right now because my math skills really are crummy! Thanks so

much for helping me out. I don't feel like such a daff now. I swear,

prednisone causes brain rot among it's other side effects!!!

Many thanks!

Jenn

I know how you feel. I am also experiencing all the effects of

prednisone. I hate them, especially the bloating and swelling of the

face.
