Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Pain knows no age. Do not judge the 60's as you will soon be there and see that nothing hurts less at 49 than it does at 60. Why classify pain by age and give the bad shit to us OLD folks as we are past being useful to society?! Thanks for that info, now that I am duly informed about pain and age, I can hardly wait to be 60 so us olddies can be drugged and sit slobbering in a chair back in the corner. Please be kinder in your thoughts. Old age doesn't begin at the magic number of 60, but I bet when you were 39 it began at 50. For a well informed group that was a really bad statement. I think they should restrict methadone Rx's to old folks, maybe 60+? (Sorry if any of you out there take offense at being called " old " ! I'm 49 myself and not getting any younger!) One of the things I hate the *most* about having a back problem is the decisions you have to make, every single day, about whether you should take your pain meds at the same level as yesterday, take more of them, or take less of them. Day after day after day. Some days I'm willing to tough it out and skip some. Other days, the least little extra twinge--boom, I take a pill b/c I can't stand dealing with it. Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Wow...I don't think you meant for your post to be taken so badly, but reading between the lines, it does make it sound like we should take the senior citizens out back and shoot them...put them out of their misery. Some days I wish you could so I wouldn't have to deal with this anymore...and I am only 44!! And I do have one med that makes me very sick...percocet, but I learned to take phenegren with it to ease the adverse reactions. I still get nauseated, but the pain relief is worth it. marypdombrowski <marypdombrowski@...> wrote: . . . seems mighty rough for a young person, I agree. Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Age and pain certainly do not go hand in hand thats for sure. I am only 35, gonna be 36 in November and I have a body racked with pain and feel like I have a body of an 80 year old person. Making comments like that about old people was very unnecessary and could be hurtful to some people who are in their 60's or older. Please think before you hit send and remember that behind each screen name is a person with feelings. I don't remember who made the comment about old people, but you know who you are and I hope you will be more careful about what you type before you send it. We are all here for support not to slam anyone for any reason. who is in Utah and is a real person with feelings just like everyone else on this group. Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Suffer from depression, NOW that's where we differ,I not only have had multiple surgeries and live in daily pain but do not wallow in self pity. I am sorry for your feelings of depression and despair but stop and do something about it. I'm not saying I'm perfect but find someone to balance your meds. Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Mark, first off stop shouting at everyone. Using all caps on the internet means you are yelling and that is not acceptable. Second, who the heck do you think you are to tell people what they can and cannot do? And who gives you the right to call everyone names? Nobody in this group has claimed to be doctors. Nobody gives medical advice as a doctor. What people give is personal experiences that may help others. And for your information, I am here in this group for spinal issues and an upcoming surgery on my back. Just cuz you are fortunate enough to not have to suffer from depression does not mean others don't. I am beginning to really not appreciate your emails cuz you never seem to have anything nice to say and you are always yelling at everyone. You are not in charge of this group so you do not have the right to say what people can or cannot talk about in this group. In my personal opinion you need to learn some respect and tactfulness. in Utah who shows everyone respect!!!!!! Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 I am not ripping into you. I am simply asking you where you get off being so rude to people and telling people what they can and cannot talk about on this group. For your information depression is a huge part of dealing with pain, disorders and other health issues that people have. And for your information I am not wallowing in self pity. I was having a rough day and I am allowed to come here and share it with people who believe in giving others support. Instead of criticizing people and what they say, why don't you try to be supportive? People might be a bit more receptive to your posts. As for my spinal disorder, I suffer from rapidly aggressive degenerative disc disease from the top to the bottom that with each test that is done it is worse than the one before it. I also suffer from arthritis in my spine along with the rest of my body and I have 3 herniated discs in my lumbar. I will be having a 2 level lumbar fusion sometime over the next month or two. And with the kind of support I have witness here so far by you, I hope by the time I have my surgey you will have learned to be more respectful and polite to other and that you will learn to be supprtive in a support group. Yes this is a SUPPORT GROUP. And so far I have not seen you be very supportive. in Utah, happily respecting and supporting those around her!!! Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Regarding methadone, it does work great for some and not so good for others. One word of caution is the generic version called Methadose is known to make people very sick. I had a bad reaction to this drug and was admitted to the hospital for observation because of elevate blood chemistry and a abnormal t-wave in my EKG. After Methadose, I was placed on the Duragesic patches and now wear 2-100 microgram/hr patches. The best advice I can provide for anyone living in chronic pain on a daily basis and all the baggage that comes with it is to seek a good certified pain management doctor. Many general doctors donโt have the experience or expertise for prescribing and monitoring the drug regime for someone in chronic pain. Once under the care of a good pain doctor, you will be able to start getting pain levels under control. I have several inoperable thoracic ruptured discs compressing my spinal cord 6 mm. I suffer mostly from pain and due get occasional numbness. Once I loose the use of my extremities, I will have surgery. Until then I have to rely on the Lord to help get me through because I can't do it alone. My family is very important and supportive. Fortunately, I haven't had much depression to speak of mostly because of my faith in the lord. I do wish everyone the best of luck. It's not easy for anyone to deal with and may be harder for the younger one who suffer from pain. I am unable to work, collecting LTD, and awaiting a date with SSD for my appeal hearing. The younger you are the harder it is to win your case. Anyway, God Bless, Methadone and personal pain management Hi You know, I've heard that methadone works for some people when every last other thing has been tried and hasn't done the job. I suppose that in that situation, you have already ruled out surgery and plan on taking the methadone for the rest of your life . . . seems mighty rough for a young person, I agree. Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 I'm not attacking any one individual ! I deal with daily depression, pain from fibro, pain from the spinal stenosis and the number of surgeries in the last 19 months. So if my approach was thought to attack any one person I apologize. Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 sorry Mark but saying things like " BUNCH OF OLD LADIES " is offensive. i think for the most part this has been a very helpful, open group, willing to listen to others problems, share our own health issues and try to remember that when we do share our own issues it is not meant to say that is how everyone else should do it. and when there is a glitch, we quickly deal with it. i have not heard anyone RIP THEM APART. sometimes a difference of opinion may sound like anger but email is a horrible way to communicate because there are no facial expressions or voices although i must say that when you type in all caps Mark, it " sounds " like you are yelling. respectfully, Carlene in MT Re: Methadone and personal pain management WILL YOU ALL STOP AND LISTEN TO YOURSELVES YOU SOUND AND ARE ACTING LIKE A BUNCH OF OLD LADIES!!!!! Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 i don't think anyone in this group has been wallowing in self pity. one of the most important aspects about dealing with chronic, debilitating pain is to talk about it to someone else who understands how i am feeling. that is what a support group does and that is why i am here; to share my experiences, listen to others w/o judgement.
