Guest guest
Hi Janet Armour is the only desiccated thyroid extract that has been approved by the FDA so people tend to feel safer using Armour. I do believe there is a slight difference in the fillers, but the hormone powder, I understand, is exactly the same for both - though some people say that the generic is less potent than Armour. Many people do very well on Thyroid S and you will only know whether this is the medication for you personally if you try the experiment. Luv - Sheila Hi Can I just ask - whats the difference between Thyroid-S and Armour? Iknow thyroid-S is generic, but whats a generic?Thyroid-S seems a lot cheaper than Armour, so I thought I might giveit a try.Oh, and while I'm writing, I tried to add 25mg of thyroxin a day to my3 grains of Armour to stop my foot cramps. I've experimented andfound that 25mg a WEEK seems to work Ok. As soon as I took thyroxinon a daily basis I went back to feeling dreadful again, I just wantedto keep sleeping and couldn't do a thing all day, even when I reducedthe Armour. It seems my body just doesn't do well on Levothyroxin, soone little 25mg a week does the trick. I still feel quite tired onthe day I take it though, maybe I could divide it up with a pillcutter and take a quarter every other day or something. Thank you Sheila for your help - as ever.LoveJanet> > > > > No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
I fished out a message that was sent to me some time ago from one of our members who has taken both the generic and Armour Thyroid. I thought you may be interested in this. Luv - Sheila _________________________ Sheila, just a note to let you know that I've found out the alleged difference in potency between generic thyroid and the Real Thing is true.I have been on generic Armour for a few years, because it used to be half the price of the real thing, and we're on a budget, of course.I eventually stabilised at 4gr + 25mcg, 25mcg more than I ever took on real Armour, which was always 4 grains and nothing else.I just had to switch back to the real thing because IPS quit stocking the generic, some sort of problems over stocking and shipments etc in the USA. I think Qualitest / Time Caps Labs are struggling to meet with the surge in popularity?Anyhoo, I just went a little bit hyper for a few days - temp 37.4, palpitations, racing pulse, sweating, feeling hot and nervous, etc. All i did was substitute the real Armour in for the same amount of generic I was taking. Didnt take me long to twig what had happened, and to lower my T4 intake to 0 to compensate.Seems the real Armour is a bit more potent than the generic stuff. by about 25mcg T4 equivalent, I'd say, since that's the difference in what i was taking and what I am on now.Just my two penn'orth! Can I just ask - whats the difference between Thyroid-S and Armour? Iknow thyroid-S is generic, but whats a generic?Thyroid-S seems a lot cheaper than Armour, so I thought I might giveit a try. .. Guest guest
When a manafacturer invents a drug they patent it with a name ie Armour, once that patent runs out other people can make the drug and give it different names. I know people in US who use Thyroid S and have good results. Caroline Can I just ask - whats the difference between Thyroid-S and Armour? Guest guest
Mo - there is information in our FILES about this. Perhaps we should all take a look at what information is already on this forum website in the way of LINKS or our FILES - try this 5 ways to buy Thyroid-S without a Credit Card.doc Luv - Sheila Hi Angel ~ Yes mine is a Visa card... I wish they had just said that to me rather than repeatedly telling me the card had been refused. Or maybe that is how it shows up when they try to process it. I have ordered again and live in hope.... I never made it to Bristol in February as I had planned. We WILL have that coffee one days though No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. Guest guest
There have been a couple of people that have written to the company and have received replies. I don't remember the exact amounts but it were almost identical to Armour if not identical - something like 38-39 mcg of T4 and 8-9 mcg of T3. I have a boat load of Thyroid-S and Westhyroid on hand I purchased earlier this year and either refrigerated or froze to expand the time length of potency. My body temperature is still way below 98.6 most of the day with an occasional day where it reaches 98.6 late in the evening for a short period. Most of the time it is is about 97.6 during the day. I take 100 mcg of T3 every morning. My TSH is suppressed below the bottom of the Lab reference range but my free T3 is about where it was before I started taking any thyroid meds, in the top third of the lab range, and my free T4 has dropped to at the bottom of the lab range. I decided to add one grain of Armour like generics but I'm starting with 1/2 a grain for a few weeks and then increasing it to 1 grain. I'm doing this even though my TSH is suppressed since I don't think the feedback loop there on TSH is that critical. I know that LH is suppressed when one takes exogenous testosterone and that is a normal response when one is increasing their blood T levels to optimum. And as to the Iodine which I was taking 12.5 mg/day of up, I decided to cut it down to one drop which is 6.25 mg/day. I don't expect to see much difference between the two doses although it might increase my TSH since Iodine decreased my TSH about 25% when I started. Ultimately, I'm willing to use any Armour or variant thereof. I might even use a T4/T3 mix, whatever works. While some people report a lot of " problems " with different variants of Armour-Generics complaining when the Armour formulation fillers were changed for example, I'm of the opinion that most of those complaints are a nocebo effect. In fact, I see a lot of people dealing with thyroid drug issues that are getting exactly the side effects they expect, IMO. Guest guest
Can you let me know privately who this doctor is please? I am not aware of any doctor connected closely with this group who has been told they can no longer prescribe Armour or any other NDT. Can you send me a copy of the letter s/he sent out. When was this? I would like to know exactly the words used. Luv - Sheila To try and cut a long story short, I've been seeing a doctor well known to this group for several years. I'm not sure how much I should/can say re what's happened but unfortunately he is another to have recently come under GMC scrutiny and, as a result, will no longer be prescribing Armour or any NDT come to that. A letter from his practice was sent out to all his patients recently explaining this.
