Guest guest
Hello All, I got my first round of test results back from the doctor (LONG list). He didn’t do all the tests I requested: however, on the follow-up visit he did order a second round of tests which I’ll post results once I get them. I also have another follow-up in 3 weeks. I’ll list everything he took although I’m sure some are “extra” in the case of hypothyroidism (which I have symptoms and adrenals). The only thing I’m taking is 8 drops o Lugol’s 5% 4 times a day. I do have dessicated thyroid and adrenal support from nutria-meds but haven’t started taking them because I wanted to wait until my results were in. Additionally, I have increased my vitamin C and also now take about ½ teaspoon Himilayan Sea Salt (in Sole form) – the salt once a day in the morning. His philosophy regarding treating thyroid is to take a “movie” of test results to see what’s happening over a period of time rather than just a simple snapshot I that makes any sense. He did say that there was no reason to test ferritin levels since my results from these tests would indicate that the ferritin levels would be fine. HELP! I’d like to know the next steps… Please tell me what I need to do now and what I should be doing to address my symptoms (lethargic, overweight, bloated, foggy etc.) Test Name Normal Range TSH result 4.4 uIU/mL .40 – 4.50 Free T3 310 pg/dL 230 – 420 Free Thyroxine 1.0 ng/dL .8 – 1.8 Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy, LC/MS/MS Vitamin D, 25-OH, Total 33 ng/mL 20-100 Vitamin D, 25-OH, D3 33 ng/ML 20-100 Vitamin D, 25-OH, D2 <4 ng/ML 20-100 Comprehensive Metabolic Panel w/ GLomerular Filtration Rate, Estimated Calcium 9.1 mg/dL BUN 13 mg/dL Creatine .80 mg/dL BUN/Creatine Ratio DNR Total Protein 7.7 g/dL Albumin 4.7 g/dL Globulin 3.0 g/dL Albumin/Globulin Ratio 1.6 Bilirubin, Total .4 mg/dL Glucose 90 mg/dL Alkaline Phosphatase 51 U/L AST 26 U/L ALT 13 U/L Sodium 140 mmol/L Potassium 4.3 mmol/L Chloride 103 mmol/L CO2 27 mmol/L eGFR Non-African American >60 L/min/1.73 sq meters eGFR Arican American >60 L/min/1.73 sq meters CBC, Platelet and Differential Total WBC 9.7 Thous/uL RBC 4.38 mil/uL Hemoglobin 13.6 g/dL Hematocrit 40.6 % MCV 92.6 fL MCH 30.9 pg MCHC 33.4 g/dL Bands 0 % Neutrophils 49 % Lympohcytes 41 (Abn: H) % Monocytes 7 % Eiosinophils 2 % Basophils 1 % Atypical Lymphs 0 % Other cells DNR RBC Morphology DNR Platelet Count 339 Thous/uL Absolute Band Count 0 Cells/mcL Absolute Neutrophil Count 4753 Cells/mcL Absolute Lymphocyte Count 3977 (Abn: H) Cells/mcL Absolute Monocyte Count 679 Cells/mcL Absolute Eosinophil Count 194 Cells/mcL Absolute Basophil Count 97 Cells/mcL Absolute Atypical Lymphocytes 0 Cells/mcL Red Cell Distribution Width 13.4 % Mean Platelet Volume 7.4 (Abn: L) fL Thank you so VERY MUCH! Guest guest
I don’t have ranges (only one set of tests thus far) and these are the numbers I received with the Normal Ranges as to what they’re supposed to be in the second column. So my TSH result was 4.4 where a normal range for it is: .40 – 4.50 so it “falls” within the normal range. Free T3 is 310 where a normal range for it is: 230-420 again this too “falls” within the normal range. Free Thyroxine is 1.0 where a normal range for it is: .8 – 1.9 and this too also “falls” within the normal range. These labs were done in the afternoon (3pm ish) with no fasting about two weeks ago. Last week I had another set of labs taken (in the morning WITH a fast) and it included a bunch of other tests plus some of these done. Could this what you mean by a “range”? When I get these results back it would give me a window of where things fluctuate? How do I increase my vitamin D? Funny, that he said my vitamin D was “fine”. We are a proponent of raw milk in this house so not having it in milk I’m sure could be a reason. Should I be taking an additional vitamin D supplement? My multi-vitamin perhaps isn’t giving me enough? Thank you. Guest guest
- your D should be at least 50. Get out in the sun as much as possible and supplement every day - especially in the winter - with fermented cod liver oil, not synthetics. It goes hand-in-hand with your raw milk. Are you not into WAPF? Weston A. Price foundation? They are all into raw milk. There are many educational articles on www.westonaprice.org, but here is one of them: http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/codliveroil.html Laurel > How do I increase my vitamin D? Guest guest
I’ve been reading more and more on the WAPF site – I think it’s grand (and horrific at times when I read about how orange juice is processed). I’ll be interested in the codliveroil article and will check it out (thank you). I was out today so that was good. How much (time wise) bright full sun should I be getting if I’m wearing short sleeves and shorts? I used to love to tan and now actually can’t sit in the [hot] sun for long before it comes to mind just how much I probably damaged my skin years ago…so if I can get an idea so I don’t overdue that’d be great! Thank you. From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of pythonesk Sent: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 4:21 PM iodine Subject: Re: TEST results interpretation needed please! - your D should be at least 50. Guest guest
My Dr recommends 20 mins mid afternoon every day. From Memorial Day to Labor Day I use Biotics Research Bio-D-Mulsion Forte. There are 2,000 iU of D3. I take 10,000 iU / day and it keeps my levels around 70. RE: Re: TEST results interpretation needed please! Guest guest
The problem is in the mindset that the ranges = normal. It is where you are in the ranges that is the tell tale sign. Being in the lower end is a sign of hypo in many cases. The American association of endos (AACE) actually states that anything above a TSH of 3 is hypo - their range is .3 - 3.0 It is a lost art of using clinical symptoms to dx issues.
