IMHO, no, it is not safe. The RDA and what you get in table salt is on the order of 0.1 mg. The test is not even in the same ballpark. If you are determined to try giant slugs of iodine for your health, I suggest you start around the 2-3 mg range, where problems might occur. If you don't react there, you might want to try more.
