I have what they call atrial fibrillation, which is an electrical disturbance

in my heart. I refused to let them give me any medication for the stress

test, and went on the treadmill. The doctor was really annoyed that I wouldn't

take it, but was amazed when I did the stress test myself. He

did the ultrasound at the same time.

Hypothyroid and left bundle blockage

Hi - I am curious to know if anyone here has been diagnosed with

something called left bundle blockage, in the heart? I was doing some

research on this - after being told I have a blockage - and came

across a couple of sites that said this condition is often found in

people with hypothyroidism.

My understanding is that this affects the 'electrical system' of the

heart that opens and closes the heart valves.

I was recently also told I might have a blocked artery, but am going

for a second opinion... by the way, I had a horrible allergic

reaction during the stress test to something called Persantine that I

was given before getting on a treadmill. It dilates your blood

vessels. Not sure why the doctor gave it to me in the first place.

And, because I am allergic to shellfish, I guess that they won't be

able to do any tests on me that involve iodine.

The other unpleasant news I just received is that I have a small

polyp in the front-center of my thyroid. I had complained of

a 'choking' feeling which, the last time this happened, turned out to

be because my thyroid was growing again. They did an ultrasound and

found this polyp.

My doctor has put me on Armour (1 GR) and it reduced my thyroid, but

I still have a lot of symptoms (constipation, lethargy, and in my

case, craving sweets). My doctor keeps saying I am testing 'in normal

range' -- however, when I spent 5 miserable years with undiagnosed

thyroid disease I was constantly told that I tested in 'normal' range.

They finally figured things out when I dropped to the ground and

stopped breathing for 4 minutes... I had a huge goiter at that

point.... very scary how clueless many doctors can be.

Well, now I am really worried about the heart stuff (this, I write,

as I eat a donut, ha ha)... And I am wondering if others have heart

problems that might be related to the hypothyroid problem --

When I was born, my heart valve didn't close immediately. They were going

to do surgery, but then it closed. I have been hypo all my life, but not

diagnosed until I was 24. I want to get a scan of my heart too, but highly

doubt insurance will pay since I am almost 29. Anyway, if the doc is only

testing your TSH then most likely you will test normal. TSh is an indicator

of how long you have been hypo. 1 grain of Armour is not enough. You need

to fire your doc and get a new one. I found mine from a link that I found

on www.stopthethyroidmadness.com This is a wonderful site FULL of GREAT

information. You should study this like you will be tested! At least your

doc is giving you Armour!!! Try this....start taking more Armour........

Like go up 1/2 grain this week, then go up 1/2 grain more next week. You

will not feel better unless you take more. Keep us posted on your progress!

Make sure you look at that site and look under mistakes patients make and

what tests you need.

Cyrstal.... what on earth does that mean " TSH is an indicator of how long

you have been hypo " ?

TSH is a reading of how much thyroid stimulating hormone is issued by the

pituary gland, isn't it?

As I understand it if the thyroid is not converting TSH then it builds

up, especially over time. And your pituitary gland keeps producing

more, as it is receiving the signal that you need more. So, if your TSH

is off the scale it probably means you have been hypo for an extended

period. I believe Chuck explained it, probably much better...

Hi Everyone - I'm new on this board...I'm curious if anyone here

knows about a possible link between pituitary disease/hypothyroidism

I believe the TSH buildup is due to the pituitary producing more. The

breakdown channels for TSH are intact whether the thyroid is responding

to it or not.

HVP is very common among hypos. seems to go away with proper treatment.

Shomon writes about this.
