Guest guest
Can anyone tell me the effect of anti depressants on overall health, and whether they would impact candida? I don't know much about what they do to the body but my depression is starting to affect my life too much, and Im considering anti depressants for a short time only to get things back on track. I hate the idea, but alternative/natural methods havent helped enough and this is really affecting work, relationships, and me! Thanks, ita
Guest guest
I can't answer your question, but have you tried cod liver oil? I think depression can be linked to vitamin A deficiency. I am not sure how common that is, but I suspect it is pretty common. I think knows much more about that. My mom noticed that it helped her moods. Also have you tried eliminating common food allergies, gluten, dairy, etc.? My moods did get better after eliminating those foods; however, if I cheat I feel like the world is going to end. -Olif
Guest guest
Helena, I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. Yes, many people with AIH benefit greatly from anti-depressants. You definitely should discuss this with your doctor, right away. Make sure he or she knows that you feel lousy. You say you were diagnosed about a year ago, and that you're not taking prednisone now. One thing that sometimes happsns with Prednisone use is that one's adrenal glands become inactive. Prednisone substitutes for the substance the adrenal glands produce, and when the supply is cut off, the adrenal glands don't step up and supply it again. Sometimes they start up again, and sometimes they don't. Explaining this is difficult for me; perhaps your doctor can do a better job of it. How are you doing with celiac disease? If you're getting gluten contamination, you might still have nutritional deficiencies that are making you tired. Some people, particularly older people, take years to heal from CD. You may not yet be recovered. And, if you have an episode of " being glutened " , you may find it takes days or weeks to recover from that. I saw my hep yesterday and said that I'm still terribly tired. She was sympathetic but not concerned. I think fatigue simply goes with liver disease, for some more than others. You speak of having a cold four weeks ago. I definitely, definitely find that it takes me a long time to recover energy after any kind of illness. Best wishes. Guest guest
Hi Helena, I started using anti-depressants a few weeks ago and I have noticed a big difference. I think everyone is different and many people cope quite well without them. I never would have thought of myself as needing anti-depressants but since I started on the pred (in May this year) I found it really hard to cope with the mood swings and depression. I would cry almost every day and would just get so angry with my poor kids and partner. I really couldn't control it. I'm a bit worried about the time when I'll need to come off them but for the moment I know I need them. I still feel really tired and still have a nap in the afternoon when I can. I'm still not back to my normal energy levels but can notice a slight improvement each week. I am currently on 150mg immuran and 8mg pred daily. Definitely talk to your Dr about how you are feeling. Hope this helps. Mel. Guest guest
I have experienced those bad mood swings too. I didn't even recognize myself and had no control over it. However as soon as my dose was lowered to 10mg pred daily or lower I'm ok and don't need any meds for that. Have you noticed a difference in lowering the dose. I find the docs put us so full of meds sometimes we don't know what does what to our bodies and mind.
