Guest guest Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Hi Danny: I'm sure others will weigh in on this but my first piece of advice to you would be to get a sugar substitute called Stevia. (a natural sweetener. I am growing some in my garden right now). When you get a sugar craving, use it instead. What got me over the hump was straining some yoghurt and then stirring in some Stevia and a few drops of vanilla. To me, it tasted like cheesecake. And yes, others have been through what you're going through to varying degrees. I for instance, could never eat just one cookie - it had to be the whole bag or nothing. I have even taken a couple of cookies out of a bag and then taken the rest of the bag and gone out into the garage and climbed a ladder and put the rest of the cookies on a high shelf. Didn't work. I was up and down the ladder til they were gone. So another trick that helped me was - the INSTANT I realized I was on a binge, I took the offending food and ruined it completely - the remainder of the cookies for instance, were reduced to crumbs and thrown in with the yukky trash. Or run under a tap. What else? Oh yeah - don't even have the stuff in the house if you can help it. My husband complains now and then that there are no goodies around so I'll occasionally buy something sweet that I don't like. Then I'm not tempted. Believe it or not, if you persist, and start eating good foods and stop feeding the Candida, after awhile - might be as little as a week or two - you won't get the cravings. And when you get " peckish " , have some carrot sticks or something else handy (that's the trouble with sweet stuff - it's so easy and handy) You can do this. Best of luck and we're all here to help. Guest guest Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Asli - The artificial sweeteners you are using are probably more harmful that sugar. But you know that. The sweetener I would recommend is Stevia. Natural (am growing some in the garden right now - the leaves are incredibly sweet - supposed to be way sweeter than sugar). Also, look up some info on soy (as in your mother's Lethicin) - another " food " to avoid according to the health pros. Dr. Mercola has some good info. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Asli Kumcu " <magnecho@...> > > > I use plenty of artificial sweetener. Guest guest Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Hey Asli, I know quitting the sugar is tough, but any time you have a craving for something sweet... Try eating a fruit, or get yourself some honey or maple syrup. I was able to help balance out my cravings and candida using these natural sweetners. These were the only things my ND would let me have. Oh, and DEFINATLY get yourself some Stevia. It is also a natural sweetner and VERY sweet. Just 1 or 2 drops into lemon water makes very nice lemonade. *8-) Quote
Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Hi Danny, I too suffer from extremely brutal sugar cravings, which have sent me on binges downing maple syrup, chocolate syrup, peanut butter, cookies, ice cream, and a lot of hot sauce. You name it. I wish I could give you some advice on how to deal with these " sugar orgies " , but I can't. I just want to let you know that you are definately not alone. However, I do have a question. How can you tell if you have candida, definatively? And what is the candida diet? I have gone to the doctor and had many blood tests (not specifically for candida though) and nothing turns up. I have had stool samples, nothing. Last week I had a colonoscopy (and I'm only 32!), nothing clean beautiful colon. The reason I saw a gastro and had a colonoscopy is because I'm having some digestive problems e.g. bloating, diarrhea. I have taken the online questionnaires regarding candida and I seem to score relatively high on some of them. But then again I think almost anyone could score high enough on them to think that they have candida. Now, I have also been told that some of my cravings could be because of parasites so now I'm doing a bowel cleanse, which is reeking havoc on me, and a parasite cleanse. I have taken the spit test and every day it seems different so I don't really give it much credence. Also, I don't have a white tongue. Nor I'm not sure if all my problems can be attributed to candida. Anyone have ideas? Thank you, Todd didjeridan <didjeridan@...> wrote: Hello I have had candida for about 3 years and have ben trying to get better for about 2 years. Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Have you considered that mineral deficiency may be aggravating your cravings? Sugar and salt deepens the deficiency and only the right trace minerals can resolve it. If anyone is still experiencing the cravings, try this free bottle of Body Balance, I believe it is the world's best bioavailable liquid ionic supplement. It contains about 70 minerals from sea vegetables plus aloe vera, and also about 120 phytonutrients. The company says after the second bottle you'll notice a difference; many notice with the first bottle. http://lifeforcefamily.com/ PIN 20466442 There's a lot of nutrient information about all the components on this website, a valuable and well-written resource: http://lifeforce-intl/20466442. Hi Danny, I experienced similar symptoms when I started the candida diet. In regard to food sensitivities, I was told that these foods taste so good and feel so good while we're eating them because our body is releasing endorphins since it senses something it doesn't like. The endorphins make us feel good -- briefly -- but then make us feel worse later. I'm guessing it's like that with sugar (but I'm not a doc). Personally, I find it easier to just go cold turkey and cut out all the sugar except for a small amount of fruit occasionally. Eventually the craving for sugar goes away. If I try to cheat with artificial sweeteners, honey or maple syrup, I still have the sweet tooth. It's a challenge because we're enticed with sugar at every turn -- commercials, grocery stores, etc. Just try finding a breakfast cereal without suger. I still salivate when there's a birthday cake in the office. But, it does get better! Leesh Quote
Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 , When you satisfy the craving, it doesn't come back stronger? For me, whose case is kind of mild, it's like starting up an engine. But the main reason I'm here is for my daughter and possibly son who have it. My daughter does pretty good, (great if you compare it to normal 8 yr olds), but sometimes like yesterday she was at my work and actually ate a packet/teaspoon of sugar. Hell was to be paid last night, and probably for at least a few days. Now I struggle with whether or not to punish her. She is on board here, but does cheat sometimes and tried to cover it up. But we can always tell by her behavior that night. I'm torn. Part of me thinks I'm being too easy, yet I see posts like this and realize adults who total KNOW can't control it. I have heard honey is better, but really just because it's more of a simple sugar? Not refined? Is that the key? Fruit seems to mess with her, but that could be a mold issue I'm finding she has a problem with. Take care, Kari Re: PLS HELP..CANT BEAT THE SUGAR CRAVINGS.DEPRESSED Hey Asli, I know quitting the sugar is tough, but any time you have a craving for something sweet... I've explained the my problem to my husband but he probably can't really understand. Most people automatically think, if you're not supposed to eat it, then don't. They cannot comprehend an " addiction " to sugar. And anyway, it's not a biggie - like I said, I buy him goodies that I wouldn't eat anyway. > > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Hi there, I'm sorry I have no miracle cure or recommendation for how to beat the sugar. All I can tell you is that I have not had any sugar at all this year besides a one week period. A local MD told me he didn't think I had a candida problem and wanted to prescribe me medication for acid reflux (after I spent a lengthy time explaining my history). I refused to take the medication and tested my problems by having a Starbucks sugar filled coffee once or twice a day (damn I miss them now that I'm thinking about them heh). After one week my lower back began to hurt again and I felt more lethargy, cramping ect. This was my proof (to me) that I had candida. I wanted to explain this to you because every time you cheat you are reducing your quality of life and most likely shortening your life span. I compare sugar to cigarettes. Your body does not need sugar and when you have candida this is what keeps it alive and allows it to control your body. No one but yourself can make you stop feeding these things. Wishing you the best.... > PLS HELP..CANT BEAT THE SUGAR CRAVINGS.DEPRESSED > > Hello > I have had candida for about 3 years and have ben trying to get > better for about 2 years. Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 To be totally honest Kari, I don't think I had the huge cravings that most people mention. I may think: Mmm this would be nice to eat, but I can generally stay away from it if it is not good for me. coffee was by far the worst for me because i ended up being allergic to it (the foods you crave the most are the ones you are allergic to) it was rough because I had a headache for 3 weeks straight from the withdrawl... but I think of it this way. Would I rather the pain come back? So I just live without it. I drank green tea as a substitute. Same thing with the sugars (I am also allergic to corn and just about everything has corn syrup in it). So the honey, maple syrup and fruit don't have corn in it, so I guess I wasn't completely satisfying the craving, just kind of substituting other similar foods for it. I think it is probably much harder for kids since they have less self control and maybe aren't thinking of the concequences later on. I don't think punishing her would be a good idea, but I really think you should talk to her. Ask her if she likes herself when she eats sugar. Ask her if she feels in control. I would compair it to a monster. The sugar monster. Tell her that if she eats it, the pain will come back and he will hurt her and make her mean (or something to that degree) The reason that sugar is bad, is it makes you deficient in vitamins and minerals. It has been refined to the point where there is no longer any nutritional value left, so it actually robs your body of vitamins and minerals to digest it (all refined foods are like this. You should not feed her products with white flour, white rice, white sugar, etc) Where as raw honey has enzymes, vitamins and minerals in it, so it won't be as hard on her to digest and use it. I'm not too sure why fruit would mess with her, but just keep track of the foods that do cause problems and don't feed them to her. Are they certain kinds of fruits, or all fruits? BTW, what are you giving her for vitamin and mineral suppliments? Have you also tried enzymes and hydrochloric acid suppliments yet? *8-) --- Kari Trautman <karitrautman@...> wrote: > , > When you satisfy the craving, it doesn't come back > stronger? Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 But honey contains a lot of fructose and also has other sugars in it which candida can consume. I know fructose isn't the easiest thing for candida to use but I've read it still can use it. I guess for me it just really depends on how bad of a candida overrun you currently have and where you are in dieting (just beginning or a later phase). > Re: PLS HELP..CANT BEAT THE SUGAR > CRAVINGS.DEPRESSED > > real unprocessed honey is anti-microbial and loaded with natural > vitamins and minerals. i drink some with lemon every morning... > > johng Quote
Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 True it can arrive at your doorstep much less processed. Check this out though: From " http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/foods_view/1,1523,283,00.html " Not only does honey add flavor to numerous foods but it is a sweetener that is relatively good for you. The only natural sweetener that requires no additional refining or processing to be utilized, honey is composed of 38% fructose, 31% glucose, 1% sucrose, and 9% other sugars, along with water and small amounts of vitamins, minerals and acids. Honey also contains small amounts of amino acids as well as vitamin B6, thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and trace amounts of essential minerals, such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. Even though these substances appear in trace amounts, they do nonetheless contribute to overall nutrition intake. > RE: PLS HELP..CANT BEAT THE SUGAR > CRAVINGS.DEPRESSED > > > From what I understand.. honey and maple syrup have > not been modified... cane sugar has. Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 after i had my eureka moment I stopped worrying about what the candida eat. true I suffered some flareups, and my candida might have been more under control that other people's at that point. but I realized that flareups had less to do with eating foods that candida preferred than how I mixed foods and how they were digested. and, focused on the cleansing... the more I cleansed, the less I had problems. example at the time, fruit on an empty stomach, no problem. fruit after a meal, toxicity flare up big time. even with good digestion I would recommend feating on honey, and I only eat unprocessed (solid) honey. every morning after a full glass of warm water i drink a warm glass of honey (teaspoon) mixed with some lemon juice. it cleanses and purifies the gi tract and to an extent the liver. johng > But honey contains a lot of fructose and also has other sugars in it which > candida can consume. Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Thanks for responding DJ. According to of my blood tests I am low in my globulin counts yet pretty high in B12. The problem is I really don't know enough about all the symptoms of candida and if I am experiencing them. And what exactly is the candida diet? Is there an outline for it anywhere? I do know that sugar is on the " banned " list however, as I am a competitive cyclist sugar, in the form of maltodextrin, fructose and dextrose, is essential to replace glycogen stores. What to do about that? Guest guest Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 You were/are low in immunoglobin? Which one? Mine was IgM and I believe it's because of leaky gut & candida keeping my immune system busy all the time. Now that I'm getting better my allergies are coming back (sigh). You should buy a book or two on the candida diet. Dr. Crook is what most people recommend to me: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/093347816X/qid=1093632332/sr=8 -2/ref=pd_ka_2/104-2245433-5092725?v=glance & s=books & n=507846 The candida diet has stages. The first stage no sugar is allowed including the ones you've listed. You should start by doing 4-6 weeks of stage one. > Re: PLS HELP..CANT BEAT THE SUGAR > > CRAVINGS.DEPRESSED > > > > Hi Danny, > > > > I too suffer from extremely brutal sugar cravings, which have sent me on > > binges downing maple syrup, chocolate syrup, peanut butter, cookies, ice > > cream, and a lot of hot sauce. Guest guest Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Yummy that sounds good. I'm still scared to try sugar stuff like honey though. I have eaten some fruit lately but like you said only before meals. One of the books I read mentioned the digestive enzymes in fruits can help when eating about 30 mins before a meal. > Re: PLS HELP..CANT BEAT THE SUGAR > CRAVINGS.DEPRESSED > > > after i had my eureka moment I stopped worrying about what the candida > eat. true I suffered some flareups, and my candida might have been > more under control that other people's at that point. but I realized > that flareups had less to do with eating foods that candida preferred > than how I mixed foods and how they were digested. and, focused on > the cleansing... the more I cleansed, the less I had problems. > > example at the time, fruit on an empty stomach, no problem. fruit > after a meal, toxicity flare up big time. > > even with good digestion I would recommend feating on honey, and I > only eat unprocessed (solid) honey. every morning after a full glass > of warm water i drink a warm glass of honey (teaspoon) mixed with some > lemon juice. it cleanses and purifies the gi tract and to an extent > the liver. Guest guest Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 my typos will get the best of me someday. that was supposed to say " wouldn't recommend feating on honey " . after a few flushes, you should be ok with a small amount of pure unprocessed honey in lemon water, it has very healing and cleansing properties. johng > Yummy that sounds good.
