Guest guest
To -- what was the connection between the autoimmune thyroid and candida overgrowth? I have hashimotos and chronic candida. How did your docs come to that conclusion? any help would be appreciated. SJ in MI
Guest guest
I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid in 1997 and have been on T3 and T4. The dosages have gradually lowered and my thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and hormone testing shows normal levels now. My TSH at 1.50 (my endo likes between 1 and 2). I had chronic yeast problems back in the 1980's and I went to a clinical ecologist and it was gone within 2 years. It came back in full force this last summer with no real obvious physical problems other than I found out I had gallbladder problems and it was removed in January, 2004 (they did surgery without antibiotics too). My ENT said the fungal infection of the throat and esophagus had been there for years. I was REAL SICK -- lost over 40 lbs--blood pressure drops, etc. I have been on Diflucan for approx. 5 mos. (the liquid form and low dose). I am feeling better but still having problems with my throat. The cultures show no yeast overgrowth, but still having a hard time swallowing. I'm wondering whether my throat is now scarred from it--has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I have now developed eczema since treatment. My diet is organic and non-yeast and non-histamine. I tried all the usual probiotics, garlic, caprylic acid, etc. in the last 5 mos. and each time I try--I start getting large hives. I am able to eat organic yogurt and do that each day. Does anyone know how to get tested for different types of fungi, since maybe this could be a different strain of candida or possibly another fungi? I was also exposed to alot of dirt last summer (the street in front of my home was dug and fully repaved). I don't know if the dirt could have affected me. My eyes were affected (no longer 20/20 vision) and sores were on my skin. What kind of fungal pathologies can be taken? Any help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi there, Well when you have a thyroid problem (particular autoimmune thyroid disease which makes you hypothyroid) then your digestive system slows right down. It can't handle food as well as it used to, in particularly fat and sugars. So your body lets the Yeast over-grow so that they help to break down the sugar in your body. My thyroid problem came on four years ago but only got chronic in the last 6 months. As a result i got a massive yeast infection about 4 months ago. I went to the doctor who diagnosed the thyroid problem and now i'm on medication for this then my yeast infection has very nearly gone without me having to do anything. I eat anything i want and it's going more and more by the day. As i say to everyone on here, a chronic yeast infection is a symptom of a more serious underlying problem. Following the diet will only cure you temporarily but until you sort out the underlying problem the yeast won't go away. Are you on medication for your thyroid problem? If you are and the levels of medication are correct then i'm sure the yeast infection will go away fairly soon, HTH, sjjmz@... wrote: To -- what was the connection between the autoimmune thyroid and candida overgrowth? Guest guest
, Was your thyroid problem apparent once the right test was run? One of my daughter's doctors ran a whole battery of traditional tests, including stuff related to thyroid, and all came out negative. However another test indicated she had a slow metabolism, and digestion is a mess with the leaky gut and all. Just wondering if for others out here thyroid might be a factor. Thanks, Kari Re: Re: Autoimmune Thyroid Hi there, Well when you have a thyroid problem (particular autoimmune thyroid disease which makes you hypothyroid) then your digestive system slows right down.
