Guest guest
Good show Jen, I'm happy for you that you were impressed with your new dentist. As you know, I went for my appointment with a " holistic " dentist too. Although my guy was not as high-tech as yours (though it was a bustling office), he was, thank gawd, a Chatty type and I came away quite hopeful. First of all, he knew about cleaning out cavitations and root canal problems. H even knew a thing or two about Candida. He asked me if I had had my immune system checked and didn't flinch when I said I has been seeing a Naturopath for some months. And we talked about diet (he likes Eating Right for your Blood Type apparently) I am always curious as to the motivation behind someone bucking the system and going " holistic " . This man has three boys (pI remarked on a picture of them on his wall) and I gather that one of them had a lot of health problems that alleopathic medicine couldn't cure. Anyway, it was just a consultation - I'm going back next week so they can do the examination to see where I'm at. He also asked me to get my ND to do metals testing - and to get the ND to give him a call for the things he would like tested. Apparently there are lots of metals that are used in " mouth hardware " and sometimes one can be sensitive to more than just Mercury. Oh boy, I know it'll probably be a bumpy road ahead but I think - I hope - its the right one. Keep me up to date with your progress Jen and good luck! - p My dentist appointment > The other day I had my first holistic dentist > appointment. Guest guest
- Re the gums. My new guy (Dr. Cohen) said the same thing to me - gum problems - which came as quite a surprise to me. Like you, I floss and brush, etc. And have my teeth cleaned every three months. And see a periodontist every 6 months. And I haven't heard a peep from my perio about anything being wrong with my gums. About 6 years ago I had had a lot of work done on my teeth (removals, root canals, bridges, etc) and consequently, was going through a period of being very sick and weak. My husband and I made an appointment to see the periodontist 'cause we had concerns about my regular dentist. We couldn't figure out what was going on with my health. The periodontist had another dentist at the meeting and you could tell she was nervous - thought we might be there to sue her or something. We weren't of course - we were just looking for some answers. But of course they pooh-poohed the idea that my teeth could be causing me problems. After all, hadn't I just spent over $25,000 on them? (yeah, you read that right) By the way, on this same topic, I have learned a lot from the www.dentalcleanse . Have you been there? (You may have been the one who told me about it!!! Brain fog) (Gee what am I going to use for an excuse when I don't HAVE brain for anymore???)
Guest guest
I also just went to my first appointment today, and absolutely have to agree to what is saying this guy did all the same stuff. In fact, the first thing he noticed is this tiny ball like thing (kind of looks like a pimple) on that center piece of skin under your upper lip between your two front teeth. He said, "that's a sign of a digestion problem" according to Chinese medicine. Needless to say he caught my attention. I have 4 large amalgams. My regular dentist said I needed caps on 3 of them because they are too big for replacement, and one could be replaced. That would cost approximately $2700, of which I have $700 left on my insurance plan this year so cost to me $2000. This guy, who is a strong believer in saving the teeth, believes he can replace all 4 amalgams for a total cost of $1000 or $300 to me. If nothing else it makes you realize you should consider getting second opinions and rarely we do when it comes to dentists. Just as Penny noted, I too am always very curious to understand one's motives. I mean I was referred to him by this nutritionist I saw that claimed this dentist help rid him of mercury poisoning after others had failed, but for all I knew they were best buddies sending referrals back and forth to each other. I asked the dentist as I do everyone these days that "get" this, WHY don't all dentist know about this mercury poisoning problem? His reply really gave me insight into his motivation. He stated, "because they need to get mercury poisoned." And he was serious! He wasn't arrogant or sales/pushy like either. He went on to add that is what it took for him to get it 15 years ago. He got nailed pretty bad and thought he had MS or something as a result of working with it. Then he started doing the research. So really his patients are more like the lucky recipients to the job hazard. Something he said that was scary is the average life expectancy for a dentist is 55-do you think that's true??? He is chairman of a biomedical group of dentists that are really working in promoting this area. One thing I wanted to add is he is a big believer of the composite called diamond crown for the best material to use. I know it's so scary to think of dental work and/or switching dentists, but something to think about. Kari My dentist appointment The other day I had my first holistic dentistappointment. I originally wanted to change dentistswhen I discovered that I have an amalgam filling in mymouth. Wow! What a difference this place was incomparison to my normal dentist. The appointmentlasted about 2 hours. They gave me a folder with awhole bunch of information about mercury fillings, peridontal disease, a local organic food directory, root canal cover-up, biological dentistry, a chart ofall the teeth in the mouth and the relation to otherparts of the body, and more They had me fill out aquestion sheet to learn more about me. The Hygenistdid a gum test where she poked points and measured onthe gums and rated them 2-4 (2 being ok and 4 beingreally bad) Unfortunate for me... I had many 4's :(also she noted down where and how many times my gumsbled. Also pretty bad... about 40-50 times! A healthymouth would bleed maybe 5 times I am at the 3rdstage "early periodontits". They will be creating aplan to help heal my gums (something my old dentistnever mentioned)... they took digital x-rays (80% lessharmful than standard x-rays) and they had this bigscreen TV where they showed me EVERYTHING in my mouth:cavaties, stains, plaque, my inflammed gums.. I'dnever seen anything like it! Then the densist came inand had me do some jaw exercises for him: open mymouth as far as I can, clench, move to the right, moveto the left, check for tender spots to check for TMJ.I was very impressed so far with the detailed theyhave paid to me. They also told me that my insurancewill also pay for cavity refilling, removal andreplacing... so will my visits I will return in 3weeks to have my cleaning. It probably will not beuntil another 2 months or so until they will remove myamalgam because they want to make sure my gums are ashealthy as they can be before hand. I give it an A+ *8-)
