So sorry to hear what you have isn't something they can cure, but it sounds like they caught it fairly early if you don't have much damage. There was a post earlier today about prednisone. Save it. If you are like me it won't interest you until you start experiencing it. I go back and reread stuff constantly as it starts to pertain to me. Hope you feel well and take care.

Infaltration of portal tracts with early fibrosis. I started today on 40mg of prednisone for 2 weeks - cut to 30mg for 2 weeks and then 20mg - return in a month for blood work. All in all I wasnt too upset with the news and I thank you guys for that. Knowing a little about the disease not only eased my mind but surprised my doctor as well. Thanks again (AIH 2/02)

Daivd, Me again, I just reread your post. My doctor didn't do blood work when he lowered the prednisone and as a result my liver enzymes elevated and I didn't know it. They should be doing bloodwork every time it is lowered. Just my opinion and something to think about. Hope it helps.

Sometimes I wish we could make this group more exclusive...just keep

you here as a welcome guest and friend without you having to meet the

darn criteria.

Sounds like your test came out pretty good...not a lot of

damage...that is good to hear. Hang in there with the prednisone.

And keep asking the questions. Take care.

Good luck to you ...40 is a pretty good dose of prednisone...you might

have some tough times adjusting to that much of it. Watch for wild mood

swings and some sleepless nights. I had to start taking an antidepressant to

level off the moods but everyone is different and the drug effects everyone

in a different way...but regardless...taking 40 a day...lol get ready to

rock! Peggy

Yesterday (day 2) I had so much energy I finished an analysis I promised a

student so I could mail back. And, I was back in the gym. Not exactly at the

strength or stamina I was but I was there. Boy, was I pooped in the evening.

Thanks for you email

As I've said, I started Prednisone on 80. Of course, I was weird, ravenous, smelly, pimpley, and hairy, sort of like one of the bad guys in a Grimm's fairy tale, now that I think of it.

Well, I have a gastro who I like who is the father of one of my students.

However he nor my GP thought there was anything odd about liver enzymes of

3000. My hepatologist here in Atlanta wants to get me on a maintenance

doseage of prednisone once things look favorable in that direction and can

communicate with me in Montana. I feel good that he is able to do so. I can

go to our hospital and send him blood work. One of the tradeoffs in living

in " God's Country " as Montana is often referred is medical care.

Thanks Bethanne!

Dave, next time, highlight what you're replying to. I'll always wonder what "sounds like fun right now.", and I can only speculate, as you didn't highlight. Maybe it's better that way -- I can let my imagination run free.

You discussed your concerns about returning to your job right now: One of the reasons I took a medical leave was that I knew I couldn't carry out my work properly. I either would have been fired the first day back for incompetence or kept on only out of pity. My professional reputation would have been destroyed.

Your reference to the hairy smelly creature thanks to prednisone.

Do you have a doctor that you are going to be referred to when you go back home or are you going to try to continue your treatment through where you are? Sounds like you are feeling good and that is great!!!

Tony, there is a Dr. Rubin that is in practice with my gastro/hep doc.

Wonder if it is the same group? Hope you had a great birthday.

I

hope I haven't forgot anybody but

THANK YOU for been a part of making my birthday

a very special day. I saw my md and

he said that since I only been on treatment 13

weeks it was too early to discuss

the progress to continue and that on my 24th week of treatment he can get

a better picture and HEY I took that and ran forgot to even

make my appointment. The girl at the

front desk problably thought that I was crazy

but I wanted to get out of there before

Dr Rubin changed his mind in giving me any

news but I will call them in the morning

to make the appointment. I never thought that

I could go thru one day without worring

about my liver BUT I DID! and it felt WONDERFUL I just want to seize the

moment. Since my family is out of the country

I also received an e-mail birthday

card from each of them and since I'm hispanic you

can just imaging how many cards I

got. Well I go for now but it is my desire that God

will always keep you safe and in GOOD

HEALTH!!!!!!!!!!

your friend,

tony
