Bravo! And seconded ...

Andy, please keep your impotent threats to yourself. This isn't Canada but the United States. You let your imagination and wishes run away with you.

Nobody made any death threats here. Anyone the reading the email exhanges would laugh you out of any American court. You're a joke.

Do you even know the song "Instant Karma" by the Beatles (a pro-drug band from the 60s)? Do you know what karma is? Do you know what "keep using drugs and you will be six feet under" means? Or can't you figure it out? It means the DRUGS will do you in? Having trouble with American slang?

I love this.

Hi All, I've been keeping up as best as I could the last several weeks but didn't have to energy to do much more that read. To all the new folks, welcome, you have come to a great family that is always full of information but more importantly, support. I've been having terrible bowel problems since Dec - Jerry and I tossed the Depends jokes for a bit, and I have been having lots of pain. First I was diagnosed with a bladder infection and we hoped that would help. Then my GI changed my diet and added metamucil in case it was the lactulose causing severe gas and it always makes you "run". Anyway the final straw came when I was visiting a friend in her classroom (no kids luckily) and I just lost it right there. The GI did some tests this time and then decided he needed to do an endoscopy. He found that I had a bleeding duodenum ulcer (just past the stomach) caused by h-pylori bacteria. He was very surprisesd because that is a bacteria that sounds like is usually found in very dirty places - not what I tend to expose myself , too. I am on major meds now and already, in 2 days, I feel better than I have in weeks! My husband tells me to not over do it but it's such a great feeling! I think infections are what will finally bring me to transplant - they are the reason I got on the list and I keep having them. I guess between the AIH, lupus and sjogrens my immune system can't handle anything. The big thing will be that you have to be infection free to receive a transplant - I feel like I need to live on antibiotics! Oh well, we'll cross that bridge sooner or later. I just wanted to share what I consider great news - some relief is found - I'm vindicated once again in that I recognized there was something wrong before anyone could diagnose it. Now just to figure out how to politely and firmly tell them to always look further :o)Take care!Amy

This is excellent information! Thanks Rhonda.

Rudy Ballentine is probably the best resource around as far as integrating medical knowledge from various medical practices from varuious cultures around the world and throughout history. I have learned more about healing the human body from the book, Radical Healing by Rudolph Ballentine, M.D. I strongly urge everyone to get a copy! The guy responsible for teaching me the basics to heal myself was a roommate of Rudy's in college, and got him started in the direction of Natural healing in med school 40 some years ago.

Give your body what it needs, and the rest will take care of itself.

Carolyn...... I have always beeb a little gun shy of herbals....I figure

if they are so good for us why do we need doctors?

Anyway I can't say that they can harm you as I am not a doctor....but

neither can I say they will help. Remember PBC is chronic and incurable,

but it is treatable.

If you try the diet don't do it in place of your meds.

It has been a life's lesson I have learned in my 60 yrs....that " if it

sounds to good to be true " ....it is.

Let us know if it helps (if you try it) and remember we are all praying

for you and your health.

love jerry

Harper,

I'm not totally sure if the rheumy felt I should stay away from unpastuerized cheeses and out of open bodies of water only because of the impact that prednisone has on my immune system or if it's also because of the liver disease. She totally caught me off guard. The situation came up when I asked her whether or not it would be okay for me to swim in open bodies of water. As I said earlier we scuba dive, which is out for me for the time being. I couldn't even lug my gear, let alone muster the energy to climb back in the boat after the dive. However, we also have an 18' runabout boat and we spend a lot of time on the river. The rheumy initially began lecturing me telling me that the sun is positively dangerous for anyone with lupus. I told her I've only had the lupus sunburn rash a few times over the last 7 years. She said that even without the rash, the sun can have serious consequences for someone with lupus. It was only after that lecture that she asked me why I would want to swim in open bodies of water, when I could swim in a clean pool. I explained the boat, water skiing, scuba, snorkeling, etc. She just said that swimming in open bodies of water would not be good for me right now. She then went on to say that on the same note, there were foods I needed to stay away from such as unpastuerized cheeses. She mentioned some bacterias that could be dangerous for someone on prednisone. However, I left the appt unsure as to whether the open bodies of water, unpastuerized cheeses (which I don't like anyway) will be okay once I'm no longer on prednisone or if they are out forever because of the liver disease. I have an appointment with a hepatologist at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN on May 6th. I intend to get clarification from him. My rheumy tends to be overly cautious in my opinion - perhaps in part because her husband is an infectious disease specialist. She wasn't really that concerned about the fact that water activities and the sun are a VERY big part of my life. If they are truly dangerous for me, then I will give them up, but I want an another doctor's take on it. For now, I have decided I will stay away from open bodies of water at least until my prednisone is lowered and my liver enzymes are staying near normal.

Sophie wrote ......The wife of this family asked me later why I did not taste this lovely wine and I said as much as I'd love to, I had a liver disease. Turns out now that she believes I am contageous and that our house is not a safe place to visit with small children... At the moment I don't even want to think of calling her. But maybe I will. Maybe she is just a concerned mum but it's not a nice experience.Sophie, being "a concerned mom" isn't really an excuse for rudeness. Even if you were contagious, wouldn't you still be a human who deserved consideration, civility? I'm sorry you've run into this situation -- which isn't, I'm afraid, an unusual one.Harper Weston wrote: ......My rheumy was not keen on me swimming in the ocean, river, or quarry as long as I am on prednisone. She said I'm really not at an increased risk for every day illnesses such as colds, etc. However, she said that I am at an increased risk for some oddball bacterias that would not cause any problems for a healthy individual. She told me that I need to stay away from non-pastuerized cheeses such as brie, blue cheese, feta because they have bacteria that could be very dangerous for me. ...., when your doctor said to avoid these cheeses, was it solely on the basis of Prednisone use? That's quite interesting; I'd never heard that the bacteria could be a problem. Harper

...like Harper I have never heard of the unpasteurized cheese thing

either, but that doesn't mean it isn't true.

However I have been on Prograf for almost 8 yrs, which is a more

powerful immunosuppressant than prednisone, I think and one of the 1st

things I aasked the head hep of my team was what can I or can't I eat

and he he told me I could eat basically anything I liked...of course

I've come to find out that I have to forgo some types of shellfish but I

have eaten brie tec with no ill effects. That is interesting and I think

I shall ask my gastro about it the next appt. maybe they forgot to

mention certain cheeses or maybe they didn't think I looked like the

kind of person who would eat things like brie or feta...that I was

simplty a processed cheese man.

Thanks for the tidbit...(no pun)

love jerry

BTW does this include yogurt or is yogurt pasteurized...what te hell I

don't eat yogurt anyways..

Isn't that a great feeling? My ALT and AST were in the 30's last month for the first time in years. Marty

[ ] (no subject)

Hi All,Just wanted to share my good news with you folks - you have certainly been there for me when the news wasn't always so good. Back in 1/2002, I was diagnosed with AIH and started on 40 mg of dear ol prednisone. I tapered off at a good steady rate. However once I hit the 5mg, my levels went back up and my doctor insisted on putting me on 7.5. Here was the deal - 2 months of normal numbers and I could go back to 5mg. Well, I did and it did. My doctor was reluctant because I have had some success with 7.5. Only if I sent him blood work in 30 days. Here's the good news, if you stuck through my tangents. After 30 days of 5mg, not only are my levels good but both ALT and AST numbers are smack, dab, in the middle - both in the 30's. I cant remember the last time my numbers were that low. I was jigging today I can tell you. Thanks for being there and embracing me in your loving support.AIH, dx'd 1/02

Most of us are affected by shifts in barometric pressure, geophramic events

and full moons, our pineal gland senses all of these things.

See cause of autism on Chidlscreen (go to research) and read the malfunction

of pineal gland in autism, it may prove your right.

Several neurologists have found this to be true -- not only parents. One

woman I know who was married to an epileptologist said his beeper went nuts

every time there was a full moon.

I have a question in a group I am in for my son disorder a lot of the

children have seizures and there has recently been some talk that some of

that

parents think there children have more seizures when there is a full moon.

Does

anyone feel this or does anyone know any thing about this.

thanks
