Guest guest Posted August 31, 2001 Report Share Posted August 31, 2001 Hi, Had to write again, because over the two years since I was diagnosed I have had similar symptoms in varying degrees (they come and go). At times, my skin is very dry and gets kind of a wrinkly look, and although the itchiness was really bad in the beginning, once I started on prednisone and imuran, it has not been too bad, but I feel it now and then....particularly in my forearms and lower legs. My doctor kept saying that the itch is not really part of AIH. I thought he was misinformed, but I found out soon after that I also have an overlap syndrome (cholestasis) which affects the bile duct cells and this causes jaundice and itching. It is not PBC, but I guess you could say it is borderline PBC or an overlap between the AIH and PBC. BTW, please mention the dry eyes to your doctor......using eye drops for an extended period of time is not good for the blood vessels in your eyes. Also there is another autoimmune disorder called Sjorgen's Syndrome (spelling?) which causes dry eyes and dry mouth I believe. I do hope you don't have these conditions, but it's worth checking things out, I think.
