Guest guest
It is my doctor's theory that, it is lack of protein in the diet for many young people that are afflicted today with thyroid problems. Combined with over consumption of simple carbohydrates and too little exercise. In order for the T4 that we produce to get where it needs to go, it has to bind with protein molecules. Fortunately the protein that we do ingest is " re-cycled " within our bodies. But, the minimum amount in the diet is 25% of total calories from protein. Some folks need more! I know there are many children that don't even get close to that! Not to mention vegetarians. Which many young girls try at least once. So, we are paying close attention to protein intake, we are supplementing his omega 3. (he takes cod liver caps) When I can get him to take them. They make him burp... And we are trying to get him to be more active. The human body is not designed to sit around as much as most do. When we are inactive, we send a message to our brains that in turn sends the message to our thyroid gland. That " hey, there isnt much goin on here, I can slow down some " . And then we get into trouble. And when we need it to kick up for us, it doesnt know how, because its been sleeping for so long. So it is super important to keep it functioning right in children by not letting them get too inactive or passive about the things they eat. So far there have been small improvements. He has lost some weight and skates more often, but the problem lies at school for him. I cant control what happens in those six hours. He sits for long periods of time, gets little water and an incredibly unhealthy lunch if I do not send it with him. even when I send it with him, he can choose not to eat it, or trade it for something more appealing. So what do we do? I personally beleive it is more about our lack of movement all together that makes us this way. Chriss.
