Guest guest
Hello Sandy! I went for 30 years without thyroid meds after a partial thyroidectomy. So struggling for years and years is very common. Then our friends and family can't understand why all we want to talk about is thyroid related illness, and how we see it all around us. Serious problems with this medical system--more money to be made on drugs for symptoms than on treating underlying problem. Gracia > Hello group! New member here. Guest guest
Hi Sandy: Welcome. I was just diagnosed last November. It will take a few weeks, but you will start feeling better. It's important to take care of yourself and become pro-active in your treatment. You will be taking thyroid meds. for the rest of your life, like the rest of us. LOL Stress can be a big factor in how you are feeling. If you start feeling any of the symptoms again, get tested again. Your doctor should have you scheduled to return in 6 weeks for another TSH test. The first dose strength is always an educated guess by the doctor. I hope you start feeling better soon. I began taking Synthroid this morning, so I am looking forward to hopefully getting better soon. I was so relieved to finally have a name for my condition. I have been feeling poorly for the past 10 years, but had no idea what my problem was. During that time, I have gained over 50 pounds. Also, fatigue has been very detrimental to my life. I have spent many hours in bed, but never felt rested. My home has completely fallen apart, since I haven't had the energy to do much housework. My family has been telling me that I am fat and lazy, making me think that something was wrong with me. It's wonderful to know that these symptoms are not my fault! Any encouragement will be much appreciated. It's nice to finally see a light at the end of the dark tunnel I've been trudging through for the past decade. Take care, - Sandy
Guest guest
Hello Hypothroidites! - I am a new member. I may be the only member that does NOT have Hypothyroidism, but don't throw me out yet! My mom has recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. This has been a relief as it answers questions as to why she has been feeling the way she does. She recently has been put on a low dosage of Synthroid. It is helping her a bit with her energy, but her other problems persist. I would like to ask everyone if these following symptoms are familiar to you, as I am still trying to find if these symptoms relate to this disease. My mom has really dry skin, and she has terrible itching. This itching is all over and it keeps her up at night. She also suffers from low blood pressure, and now it fluctuates between high and low. The doctor have not found a solution to the low blood pressure, but said that the hypothyroidism may be the problem. So far, the meds have not helped on this. She also has swelling in her feet that will not go away. We are seeing the doctor again next week, but I would like anyones feedback regarding these symptoms. Thanks, > Hello group! New member here. Guest guest
Thanks for all the support, you guys! I have been on my medication now for one week, so of course no results yet. I read on a website that caffeine sometimes aggravates hypothyroidism symptoms, so I have been cutting out coffee and chocolate. I had the world's worst headache last night from caffeine withdrawal. Hopefully, I'll see some results from all this work and suffering! Take care, - Sandy > Hello group! New member here. I just found out yesterday that I > have hypothyroidism.
