Guest guest Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 The following extract is from the IrishHealth.com website on their Medical Q & A page: Is there any other treatment available other than eltroxin for an under active thyroid gland? Hypothyroidism or under activity in the thyroid gland is characterised by decreased production of thyroxine, also known as thyroid hormone. It is possible to compensate for this deficiency by taking thyroxine in tablet form. Supplementation with thyroxine is therefore a very logical treatment for this condition. Eltroxin is simply the proprietary or brand name for thyroxine. When a person is not producing sufficient amounts of thyroxine no other treatment will do. I think the above says it all when it comes to help and support in Ireland. If anyone out there can prove me wrong I would love to hear from you! Quote
