Guest guest
Hi Sharon, fellow bird lady: Your little sun conure is just a beauty...We reside with a little quaker (aka monk parrots--or as I like to call them, the pigeons of parrots!). His name is Dready (short for Dreadlocks), he is a terror, but a cute one, and he definitely rules the roost around here. He has a pretty good vocabulary: " Hello, Hey Baby, Hey Boo, Hey Ba-boo, Good Boy, Mmmmmmm!, Yeah! and my new all-time favorite: Aaaaa-ight?? " (Think Ali G meets Flavah Flav) I'll try to post a picture at some point, but if you are not familiar with quakers, go to www.brooklynparrots.com. The little flying thugs run wild in the streets and skies all over Brooklyn, and apparently in 7 other state in the North and East. Peace and many happy parrots in the New Year! Guest guest
Edie, your little Dready sounds wonderful! I am familar with quakers, but only by sight and by magazine articles. How old is he? Shemesh turned 12 in November. My hubby's from Israel, and " shemesh " (short e, as in " them " ) means " sun " in Hebrew, so my baby's name is exotic if not particularly original. :^) Sun conures are not noted for their talking ability. Maybe if Shemesh were a boy she would talk some, but she seems to lack the equipment, and becomes indignant at attempts to get her to talk. She certainly understands a few words, and has taught us to speak a little " sun conure " . I had a talking budgie for 3 years, so I know how much fun it is. She is bossy also, and becomes a terror on occasion. She used to try to drive any newcomer out of the house, but I've taught her to accept a couple of neighbor kids so now she accepts SOME people as long as they don't break any of her rules. There's one little boy in particular, with a buzz cut and glasses, that she refuses to accept, so my guess is that she encountered a particularly annoying little boy during her time in a pet store cage. One thing I love about Shemesh is that she's a cuddler. Is Dready? Enjoy!
