Guest guest
Debbie in Louisville: what is your Alk Phos level? Are you familiar with the PBCers online support group? Has your prothrombin time been tested? If you don't already, try to take someone with you to your doc appt who will make sure you ask all your questions and get real answers to them. Re teeth, gums, etc, - prednisone is hell on them. PBC specifically, I've never heard that but who knows. Ed, no doctor knows what causes the disease of autoimmunity. Have you ever checked out www.aarda.org American Auto-Immune Related Diseases Association (I think!) The etiology is autoimmune disease; AIH is just one manifestation. " I wonder sometimes, what is the auto immune problem is causing the AIH? I certainly hope that some people don't have idiopathic AIH [doctors don't know the cause] " Lyn, I have AMA-negative PBC, also known as autoimmune cholangitis. Guest guest
protime and alko level . what do they mean ==================================================================== prothombin time relates to the amount of time it takes for bleeding to stop. My hepatologist considers prothombin time to be an important indicator in determining when to start preparations for a liver transplant. there are a number of post-transplant patients on this board, and perhaps they could share their experience in their conversations with their transplant team. Alkaline phosphate is another liver enzyme, that indicates the condition of the liver. You have to remember that when you first had some adverse symptoms, the doctor ran a number of tests to determine where to look next. some of the tests are part of that initial evaluation. Once it's determined that you have a liver problem, then identification of the cause is next, and you begin your medical treatment to stablilize your liver. If your medication isn't lowering the values towards normal, then the doctor will most likely try some other medication. If the side effects are difficult to deal with, the doctor may try some other medication. Clearly, we are all not taking the same medication, and some of you react differenly to the same medication. In my particular case, the doctors are treating my autoimmune disease first, since that was the cause of the cirrhosis. I think that it's important to ask your doctor about his game plan, or is he going to ignore any game plan, and go directly for a transplant? finally, if you are living in a State where you are allowed copies of your blood test, then get copies, and track the numbers on an Excell spreadsheet. I find it to be great incentive to live a healthy life. Ed
Guest guest
Prednisone is not really the cause of periodontal disease, but it can certainly complicate it. Because prednisone suppresses the immune response, your mouth is less able to defend itself against the bacteria that is always present in your mouth. That makes good oral hygiene even more important. Regular brushing and flossing and regular visits to the hygienist are even more important than before. Your dentist will likely want to prescribe an antibiotic for you to take prior to any cleanings. My wife is a hygienist at a large clinic here in Minneapolis. Guest guest
Can you get depressed if you take yourself off 100mcg of levoxyl? What is the harm? Guest guest
the harm is that you will become very ill, with other symptoms besides depression if you need the medicine. Guest guest
Absolutely! You can get depressed, forgetful, suicidal, rage, and memory issues. Compare it to a diabetic taking insulin. That is unless you are experiencing hyperthyroid symptoms. Why would you want to stop this medicine? > > > > > > > > > > > ... Schwarzbein (and I) think saturated fats are just fine. Guest guest
Do you take Armour or a synthetic T3 such as cytomel. Synethetic T4 alone would not address these mood issues for me. T3 from any source will. I hope you feel better. Please discuss this with your doctor. You have to be adament and persistant that you are experiencing severe mood problems. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ... Guest guest
Depressed will be the least of your concerns. You are gonna get seriously sick. No thyroid hormone means not enough oxygen in every tissue in the body - it damages every single organ including the brain. You know the list of symptoms of hypothyroidism, for people to know if they should get tested for it? You are gonna get all of those. Why do you wanna take yourself off a medication that is for life, may I ask? Jan Jodi Seidler -- Lemonade Maven wrote: >Can you get depressed if you take yourself off 100mcg of levoxyl?
