Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Jolynn - It's no comfort, but it's exactly like that on the West Coast. Driving anywhere where there's a population is horrendous, and as you know, the population is getting worse and worse by the minute everywhere. And it doesn't help when you are given directions by your hospital how to get there from the airport, and the exit you are supposed to get off of on the Interstate isn't there anymore due to construction! Then the streets you DO get off on are all one way when you aren't at all used to driving one way streets. (Did I say I love San Francisco? Grrrrr) So good luck to you in Boston my friend. Just keep chanting to yourself "I will get there....I will get there....I will get there...." We finally did! My Best - ~~ Quote
Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Jolyn, Why not do a "Map Quest"? We use that all the time to get around, and it seems to work extremely well! Carole M. Quote
Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Jolynn, I have never heard of Dr Rand seeing patients anywhere but New England Baptist Hospital. Since he is going out on his own, perhaps his relationships with other hospitals is changing? I just spoke with Priscilla Friday and I know they have just completed a grueling move up one floor to new offices in NEBH. Boston is a bear to drive around and NEBH is no easier to find than most places...but I just wanted to have you check in case you had the wrong location written down and missed your appointment!....Cam Quote
Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I went to Boston on vacation once a long time ago and I was amazed that you could drive for miles without ever seeing a street sign. And by the time you see a sign for your exit on the freeway, there is no way to get over to the proper side to exit! I am very good at reading maps, but we spent much of our time in Boston, lost. We did go to some unintended interesting places, though. Quote
Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 HI Cam, He sees patients there one day a week. They pushed me to the Tufts New Engalnd Medical Center (where I think he teaches, but I may be wrong). Dr. Rand may be interested in the Marfan Syndrome. I can't help wonder why Priscilla worked to get me in so quickly and told me what ever x-rays I did or did not have would be fine and that he will get what he needs after he sees me. The week before I was told I would have to send them MRIs and CT scans (which I do not have)to even be considered for an appointment. I did ask to make sure I was still covered and Priscilla said that she does all of the billing for him, even from there, so it would still be covered. I'll let you know how it goes on Friday (maybe saturday depending on how lost I get) Jolynn > > Jolynn, > > I have never heard of Dr Rand seeing patients anywhere but New England > Baptist Hospital. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I hated going anywhere when we first moved here. The whole state of Mass is like that. I know worcester and where I live. Even people who live in Boston can't give directions because they are confused. I'll have to trust that God will get me there because it certainly won't be the street signs. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Jolynn, I'm sure the phone call from your orthopedist made all the difference. That's new on me as well, that he sees patients at Tufts. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 It can be a bear for sure. I find it helpful to get detailed maps. I've found Mapquest helpful, but I've neve had to find Tufts N. E., so I can't speak to that. It isn't just MA, either. I think it's the entire New England region. Sharon [ ] Re: Grrrrr I hate traveling in Boston. >I hated going anywhere when we first moved here. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 If your notes included the fact that he wanted to send you to Rand... Who knows? Is it at all possibile the first person you spoke with wasn't Priscilla? I have to admit that she's never been anything but nice to me. Once someone hurried me off the phone, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Priscilla. Sharon [ ] Re: Grrrrr I hate traveling in Boston. > All they did was fax my notes. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Mapquest sometimes does not account for construction and oneway roads. Map quest tells me to take a right everywhere that the directions the hospital tells me to take a left. I ended up calling there and getting directions from the operator. I checked maps and mapquest and the hospital directions and they all came up different. That is why it is so confusing. I have made the mistake of relying on Mapquest before and with no street signs the directions are pretty useless. I have land marks now so I think i'll be OK. > > Jolyn, > Why not do a " Map Quest " ? We use that all the time to get around, and it > seems to work extremely well! > > Carole M. > Quote
Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Maybe. He didn't bring anyone with him for mine, and I have extensive spina bifida complications. http://www.bostonspinegroup.org/doctors/rand/index.html This page lists him as on staff of both hospitals, and as an instructor at Harvard Medical School. Maybe he lectures at and/or works with students, residents, etc. from both schools. As long as the students sit down and shut up you should be ok. (Can you tell I've had my fill of being a guinea pig for specialists-to-be?) Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Usually i have to put on a " routine " . It is rather silly. I have to wrap my fingers around my wrists and extend my arms and other things like that so they can all see the hypermobility and length proportions. My biggest pet peeve is when the DOc gets excited and goes to get all of his DR friens to come and see. I like it better when everyone is in the room at the begining. But hey all in the persuit of science right? > >> > >> HI Cam, > >> > >> He sees patients there one day a week. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Jolynn, if you zoom in on Mapquest maps, to the most detailed maps, you will see that one-way direction arrows are included. There are lots of different ways to get there, so all directions probably work. I have found though, that when I thought I knew better than MapQuest, I ran into one-way streets that messed me up and made me wish I'd followed their directions. They're not always perfect, but they're pretty darn good, IMO. Sharon [ ] Re: Grrrrr I hate traveling in Boston. > Mapquest sometimes does not account for construction and oneway > roads. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Do you get to show them the double-jointed thumbs? My cousin Lorna, who has Marfan's, has a cervical fusion but can still turn her head farther than I can. Sure, all in the name of education. When it comes to Marfan's, the medical profession needs plenty of it. Sharon [ ] Re: Grrrrr I hate traveling in Boston. > Usually i have to put on a " routine " . It is rather silly. Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 :^) I've thought the same. Or maybe the one you linked just looks overly serious, forbidding, almost. I think that one is older. I know I've seen it over the years, and the Boston Spine Group one is probably more up-to-date. I definitely like that picture better! It makes him seem a lot less scary. The last thing you want is to be cut into by a mad man, right? Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Well I have been lost more than a few time due to Mapquest so I think I am better off following the directions from the people who drive there every day to work. I use maps/ mapquest for anywhere other than Boston. I also prefer to have the land marks rather than the street names when there are no street signs. > >> > >> Jolyn, > >> Why not do a " Map Quest " ? Guest guest Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Yeah, they always ask for me to show them my double jointed thumbs. The reason I am double jointed isn't that I have 2 joints the connective tissue that makes up my joints are acctually very inferior.
