Guest guest
Janelle, The floods didn't do anything to our house because it backs on a golf course and there's very good drainage here. Also, the house is 10 years old, which makes it almost an antique by LV standards. However, the golf course did flood somewhat and the ducks thta usually live on the pond about two holes away were happily swimming in their new lake. It was fun watching them until we saw how much damage had happened everywhere else. This is a very unreal place to live. We live in a normal residential area with nice lawns, large trees, lots of greenery and shrubbery, and we could be anywhere-USA. However, we're a 25 minute drive from the Strip and that's a different world. Some newswriter has called LV the new Orlando West, because it's a city that now wants to be all things to all people, including families. One thing for sure, no one has an excuse to be bored here because if you have the desire, there's always something to do. Residents get so many freebies in the mail, it's tempting to go out to eat fairly often, though they basically hope this will bring us into the casinos to gamble. Ballard was our attempt to live in an apartment. My husband had a heart attack and some back problems so we felt he couldn't handle a big yard anymore. Our house before the apartment had 12 fruit trees in an enormous backyard. Too much for him to handle. Also, the house was beginning to need " little " things. Then, when Bob's back got worse, we decided we had to go someplace where we were relatively sure we could afford to live if our world came crashing down because of his problems. Of course, at the time I thought I'd be able to work as I always had. I was hospitalized four months after we moved here and I must have been sick but not acknowledged it, long before that. Anyhow, if you know where the little restaurant on NW 15th. is, that has an old car sitting on the roof, that's one block up from where we lived in Ballard. We were on NW 64th. Really a nice apartment building but claustrophobic for us. I went to High School one year in Seattle then we moved back years after Bob and I married. Lived there for 17 years. I worked for Airborne Express in the International Division for 11 of those years and Bob worked for R.W. Beck and Associates, consulting engineers. We moved to the SF Bay Area in 1985 and in 1990 we moved to Switzerland, where we stayed for three years. When a French firm bought the company in Switzerland, we moved back to the US and Seattle. Must sound like we're flighty, but we've always lived the life we've wanted to live. I guess now we're paying for not being more " solid. " Anyhow, I can adjust to living almost anywhere! Take care, Geria

Guest guest
---------- Geri, Went to my specialist yesterday and my worst fears came true. I got the results of the bone density test, it has reduced by 20%. That is really scary. I know you had problems with yours also, what did they suggest you do, if anything to stop the deterioration? I had a long take to my doctor, there were a few things that had come up I had no idea about and I am a need to know person. We discussed the fact that the continued high doses of pred and the length of time I have had to be on it was what is causing the loss, I asked her what the alternatives were and she said there really isn't any. The cyclosporin and pred that I am on haven't even yet bought my LFT's down to normal, even after three years, but they are keeping them low, if I were to go off these meds the disease would take over again and I would most certainly either die or need a transplant. Then she went on to say, that all my current symptoms, joint pain, headaches and numerous other things is being caused from the actual withdrawal of the pred while they are weaning me off it. So they cannot get me off as quickly as they would like, so as to stop the continued loss of bone density. I can tell you this has hit me like a ton of bricks, you think you have a handle on your emotions and have learned to live with this disease and whamo you are hit with something else. What made it worse was it is the first time my hubby hasn't come with me to see her. I asked her has all this shortened my life expectancy, she said it was more than likely. She knows I ask a lot of questions and she has always been extremely honest with me, and don't get me wrong, I am grateful for that. I have, for the last month or so, been experiencing an extremely strange pain in the area of my spine, when it hits, it is extremely debilitating, I cannot move and have to stop dead in my track with whatever I am doing, which can be anything from just sitting to walking around the house, just any time. I told her about this and she seems to think it is to do with the bones. I am now to have an X-ray of my spine and see how much damage has already been done. As far as the joint pains etc. she explained it like this. She could put me on some meds to help with the inflammation of the joints, but they have a tendency to give stomach ulcers, which the pred are already susceptible to do, so to prevent this she would have to add another drug to stop me getting ulcers, the side affects of these drugs would be unknown on me until I tried them. I tell you Geri, I am at an extremely low ebb. I just can't see a future. I probably don't have the information I need about the loss of bone density that I need to help me understand, do you have any insight into this, I would appreciate help. I just can't seem to come to terms with all this. It is like discovering the disease all over again. Please help. All I seem to be able to do at this stage is cry. I hate that. SueB. Guest guest
Do you mean Washington State or Washington, DC? Either way, I don't see why it would make a difference except for the cost. I wonder if the person running that co-op ever does " estimate costs " of shipping if they're asked. That may be an option. Re: Coop (was missing email) Thanks for the info, ! Do packages ship from Washington? (I think that's where the owner lives.) I'm very interested in this source as long as the shipping isn't horrific.
