...flax seed oil (highly beneficial) makes an excellent salad dressing.

I love it so much I'm eating more salads! Hope you like it, too. Barlean's

is a good brand...health food stores carry it.

Do you just put flax seed oil on your salad or do you mix

herbs & spices with it? Also, when you go out for dinner what kind of

salad dressing is good to order?

I don't mix anything with it, although you can. I like it straight. I

haven't eaten out much since I've started ER, so can't answer that question.

I would like to know, too.

Olive oil, lemon juice and different herbs are great as well. When I go out

to dinner I ask for just plain salad with no dressing or with fresh lemon on

the side. A lot of the commercial salad dressings have vinegar in them.

I have found that my only really ER4YT alternative for salad dressing

at restaurants is the oil part of the oil and vingar that most of

them

will supply on request. I also ask for lemon and I usually sprinkle

salt on as well.

Good luck!!!

Let some red pepper flakes marinate in a cruet of olive oil (I use

extra virgin) for a few weeks, then drizzle on romaine. Yum! Also

great for saute-ing.

I got my favorite salad dressing recipe from Dr. D'Adamo's web site.

1/3 cup canola oil

1/2 cup olive oil

1/3 cup flax seed oil

1/3 cup honey (or less)

1/2 cup lemon juice

1/4 tsp. ground ginger

1 tsp garlic salt

other seasonings to taste

Place ingredients in blender to combine. Tamari can be added for terryaki

chicken salad dressing.

Refrigerate.

Hi, does anyone have a good recipe for salad dressing? I haven't been able

to find one yet.

Thanks!

Hi Joan, your salad dressing sounds good as well as your soup. Thanks for

sharing them.

Here's a recipe I made up for salad dressing....

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/4 cup red wine

garlic

salt

cilantro

Have a great day, ya'll

Love,

Lilla--Onegnon in No. CA

So here is my other recipe, also evolving. The last time I made

it I tried

to measure things, but it is still approximate. Vary according

to your own

tastes.

1/2 cup olive oil

1/2 cup lemon juice

2 tablespoons prepared mustard, I have been using the Grey Poupon that

comes

in a squeeze bottle.

Salt

garlic

Shake well. I keep it in a recycled salad dressing bottle, or

the Grey

Poupon bottle.

I haven't ever really liked the taste of olive oil, so I have had to

get

used to it. I am more careful about what I buy, not the cheapest

on the

shelf. In this recipe I don't taste the oil so

much. I had been trying a

lot of modifications of cook book recipes, but this came mostly from

a

Polish friend who is a good cook.

Well, I usually have 2 table spoon of olive oil for the juice of one

lemon (or lime) to which I add one clove garlic that I press or dice

in very small pieces, then I add a tea spoon of herbs of Provence,

and one tea spoon oregano and some pepper (fresh from the grinder). I

use it on top of salads but it is also brilliant as a marinade for

chicken, in which case I leave the chicken to marinate in the mix in

the fridge before grilling it. (I marinade for 30 minimum).

I also do this dressing/marinade for salmon: 2 table spoon olive oil,

the juice of one lemon (or lime) and I add some dill and pepper.

Just another thing you could do, i use natural live yogurts and add to them

also, so it is kind of like a mayonnaise and is very tasty....i cant eat live

yougurt on it's own anyway, but it does give a salad another dimmension....

A good monounsaturated oil for when you don't want the heavy taste of

olive oil is organic avocado oil.

Michele,

I find I can make a lot of very tasty salad dressings from yogurt or

kefir.ou can find the recipes at our Web site, under salads. Adding some

mustard give more of a Miracle Whip flavor. I just use mayo from the co-op

for something like the Apple Cabbage Slaw, but add more yogurt than mayo.

http://home.woh.rr.com/billkrisjohnson/Recipes/Cookbook.htm

FrontPage has been giving me grief at the web site, so hope it reads okay.

Incidently I've found that with Internet Explorer if you want to print a

recipe it's better to do a print preview first and then print from that

screen.

I'll be gone for 2 weeks, so am signing off the list for the time being, so

email me personally if you have a question or comment.

I use flax oil to make salad dressing and coconut oil for eating,

making candy and cooking. Coconut oil is great but don't forget to

get some omega 3 like in flax oil.

Del, been there done that with the flax seed oil. Now I take chia

seeds to get my omega 3's. Much more stable and you can make into a

gel or eat them straight.

Have you ever tried mixing coconut oil with another oil for a salad

dressing?

I am familier with chia seeds but have yet to try them. No, I have

not had success with mixing the 2 oils to make a salad dressing. I

am very happy with my flax oil dressing. The problem with a dressing

made with the 2 oils is that coconut oil will have to be at 76

degrees to be liquid and the other oil would need to be refrigerated

to keep it from going rancid. I find that oils other than coconut

and flax oil, so easily go rancid. I have stopped using any oil

other than flax and coconut oil.

Del wrote, " I find that oils other than coconut

Unlike olive oil, flax oil does go rancid quickly, even when

refrigerated. It should be used within 6 weeks, refrigerated and

never heated.

The " Nourishing Traditions " book has several recipes for salad

dressings, all of which use EVOO and a small anount of unrefined flax

seed oil as a base (1/2 cup:1 Tablespoon). The author, Sally Fallon,

warns against using large amounts of flax seed oil.
